Free Weekend Wine Tastings - Friday and Saturday!

Two in Tetra Pack & The Great Value Cabernet Shootout – Friday, February 10 from 3-7pm

This Friday’s tasting is all about unexpected value.  First, we’re excited to introduce two very pleasing wines from Argentina in an unusual, very environmentally friendly, package.  Yellow & Blue Torrentes and Malbec would be very nice value in “regular” 750ml glass bottles, but they’re even more intriguing in 1.0 liter Tetra Packs.  Join us to give both a try and also share your verdict in the Great Value Cabernet Shoot Out.  We’ll pit our reigning value Cab champion vs. the just-arrived Clos Robert Cab from California.  Which do you prefer?  It’s a fun and delicious delimma!

Yellow & Blue Torrentes 2009 1.0L Tetra Pack – Mix yellow and blue and you’ll get green – and “green” is what this great value line-up is all about.  But, as intriguing as the packaging is, it’s the crispy, bright, peach and floral scented wine that caught our attention!  Great value.

Yellow & Blue Malbec 2010 1.0L Tetra Pack – Just as “green” as the Torrentes, but – naturally – a lot gutsier!  Here’s a fine value Malbec with plenty of dark fruit and meaty accents ready to go out and play at picnics, parties, or just with a Tuesday night cookout.

Chilensis Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2010 – For the past few months, this very nicely priced red from Chile’s Colchagua Valley has been our reigning Value Cab Champion.  Plenty of classic Cabernet fruit here with accents of fresh herb and tobacco and more elegance then you’d expect for under $10.

Clos Robert Cabernet Sauvignon California 2008 – And, in this corner, the challenger!  Plenty of Cab in California, but all too little value.  That’s why we got so excited by Bob Stack’s newest release of Clos Robert Cabernet.  Loaded with currant and black cherry fruit and bold accents of dark chocolate and sweet spice, this juicy red fills your mouth and makes you smile.  Better than Chilensis?  You decide!

Burgundy, Crozes Hermitage, and Pink Fizz for Valentine’s Day! – Saturday, February 11 from noon-4pm

Paul Everitt from local importer JAO Imports joins us this Saturday with treats to grace any Valentine’s Day celebration (even if they don’t really pair with the chocolate Bailey Kasten will be offering at the same time!).  Join us this Saturday to sample some very exciting new white and red Burgundies, our favorite rosé Cremant de Bourgogne and a meaty, smoky, all-Syrah Crozes Hermitage from the fine 2009 vintage.  Here’s what will be open:

Fougeray De Beauclair Cremant De Bourgogne Rose NV – a lovely, 100% Pinot Noir, rosé sparkler that offers up layered red raspberry and strawberry fruit with pretty accents of fresh earth and spice.  Crisp and dry on the finish; beautiful in the glass.

Dom Marc Jambon Macon-Pierreclos 2010 – a terrific introduction to what you can expect from Burgundy’s very fine 2010 vintage.  Stony and focused with plenty of minerality underneath its crisp green apple fruit and dash of mint.  Mouthwatering.

Dom Jacques Cacheux Bourgogne Les Champs d'Argent 2009 – a pretty serious Bourgogne rouge from the excellent 2009 vintage.  This comes from vineyards on the border of Nuits-Saint-Georges and not far from Vosne-Romanée and displays rich, ripe, Pinot fruit and a long, earthy, finish.

Dom Michel Sarrazin Givry Sous La Roche Rouge 2009 – one of the great things about a great vintage like 2009 is how well wines from “lesser” sites can perform.  This fine young red from the Côte Chalonnaise shows off perfectly ripe fruit in an elegant, layered, wine that delivers a lot of bang for the buck!

Dom Marc Sorrel Crozes Hermitage 2009 – from Syrah’s ancestral homeland in the Northern Rhone Valley, this beautiful 2009 is at once floral, meaty, and full of elegant fruit.  Vibrant, fresh, and utterly captivating.

It’s a great pre-Valentine’s Day line-up.  Join us!
