Moulin De Gassac Guilhem Rose 2013 Product #28005 (In Stock)
Moulin De Gassac Guilhem Rose 2013 Moulin De Gassac Guilhem Rose 2013

Our first 2013 rose is a beauty!  As soon as you see the Moulin de Gassac Guilhem Rosé, you know you’re in for a treat.  It’s a beautifully transparent salmon pink that almost sparkles in sunshine.  Aromas of fresh picked strawberries and crushed red fruits – raspberries and cherries – get a lift from floral accents and a hint of citrus rind.  In the mouth, it’s bright and crisp with loads of berry fruit and just a touch of mineral, nicely round but still light and fresh.  The acids come up on the finish and make your mouth water, leaving you looking for a little bite to eat or another refreshing sip.  Drink this on its own anytime you like, or pair it with anything from smoked salmon to fruited chicken salad.  “Berry” delicious!

Ch Montaud Cotes De Provence Rose 2012 Ch Montaud Cotes De Provence Rose 2012

This huge customer favorite is, once again, a classic rosé blend of Syrah, Grenache and Cinsault, attractively packaged in the traditional curvy Provencal rose bottle.   Concentrated and intensely juicy, it's packed with dried berry, cherry, and red currant fruit with accents of glazed white peach and nectarine.  Dry and crisp, it finishes with a big burst of creamy fruit flavors an just a touch of fresh herb and mineral. Give it a light chill and enjoy on its own or with salads or grilled poultry.  Lovely stuff!

Champteloup Rose d'Anjou 2013 Product #28289 (In Stock)
Champteloup Rose d'Anjou 2013 Champteloup Rose d'Anjou 2013

While we in the USA tend to focus on rosé from the South of France, in Paris pink wine from Anjou in the nearby Loire Valley gets plenty of attention.  And, this is classic Parisian bistro rosé, made from from 70% Grolleau for fruit and 30% Cabernet Franc for herbal notes and spice.  Gentle aromas of cherry, strawberry, and crushed fresh herb lead to a juicy, fruity, mouthful of red berry fruit and a bit more herb.  A hint of watermelon candy comes up in the middle and the finish is frankly fruity and round, but dry and clean.  Cherry and watermelon Jolly Rancher notes linger on.  A fun wine to just sip on it's own and a great match for Asian dishes or anything with fruit.

The folks who make our best value white and red Bordeaux turned out a very satisfying pink wine in 2013!  It's about 70% Merlot with the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, all bled off the fermenting red wine and aged in tank. Bright strawberry and cherry fruit show on the nose and palate with a dash of crushed fresh herb and just a touch of redcurrant and juicy cherry/berry acidity.  Fresh and easy drinking!

Terredora Di Paolo Rosae Novae 2012 Product #28089 (In Stock)

Here's an utterly charming and delightfully delicious rose of Aglianico from the volcanic hills inland of Naples, Italy.  Crushed strawberry and cherry fruit get accents of fresh herb like thyme and even basil.  It's round and richly textured but finishes dry underneath the luscious strawberry, cherry, and raspberry fruit.  A great wine for antipasta and salami!

Dom Philippe Plantevin Cotes Du Rhone Rose 2013 Product #28305 (In Stock)
Dom Philippe Plantevin Cotes Du Rhone Rose 2013 Dom Philippe Plantevin Cotes Du Rhone Rose 2013

If you thought Philippe’s 2012 rosé was good, just wait until you try the 2013!  A touch darker in color and one notch more concentrated and intense, but just as full of fruit and refreshment as last year.  Unusually for a rosé from this part of the Rhone valley, it’s 90% Mourvedre (made famous by Domaine Tempier and other Bandol estates) and just 10% Grenache.

Lovely dark pink in color, the generous aromas feature bright cherry, passion fruit, and wild herb scents. The texture and shape of the wine in your mouth is fantastic, starting soft and silky, exploding into palate coating flavors, and then focusing down with laser-like precision and focus on the mouthwatering finish.  You’ll find plenty of wild strawberry, passion fruit, ripe citrus, fresh herb and just a touch of earthy Mourvedre flavors running through the wine with mouthwatering watermelon, berry, pink grapefruit and mineral  notes on the long, juicy, finish.  A great solo sipper and even better with fresh salads, smoked salmon, or anything with plenty of savory herb and garlic.

Dom Du Pre Semele Sancerre Rose 2012 Product #28281 (In Stock)
Dom Du Pre Semele Sancerre Rose 2012 Dom Du Pre Semele Sancerre Rose 2012

We love Sancerre rosé but don’t often buy it for the store for one reason – it’s usually just too darn expensive.  This beautiful pale pink rosé of Pinot Noir delivers all the class, tangy strawberry fruit, zingy cranberry acidity and gentle hint of crushed herb you expect from top-notch Sancerre rosé, but at a fraction of the price.  When first opened and a bit cool, the gentle notes of fresh cut strawberries and candied cranberry take center stage with tangy strawberry and cranberry flavors lingering.  With air and a bit warmer, a tangy orange zest note comes up strong, making this just as much fun to drink at the end of a picnic as it is right out of the ice box.

Ch Miraval Cotes De Provence Rose 2013 Product #28134 (In Stock)
Ch Miraval Cotes De Provence Rose 2013 Ch Miraval Cotes De Provence Rose 2013

So, last year, we talked about this wine in terms of the winery/vineyard owners - movie stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.  This year, it makes sense to focus more on the folks who made the wine - the Perrin family of Chateauneuf-du-Pape's Ch Beaucastel - and the wine in the bottle.  The 2012 was a fun, ripe, rosé with a bit more heft than many find ideal in Provencal pinks.  Still, it made the Wine Spectator Top 100 and sold through well.

The 2013 is clearly both more classic and just flat out better.  The color is lighter, the texture more lithe, and the ripe strawberry fruit gets a much appreciated dose of fresh herb and minerality.  It's seriously good, but also seriously limited.  Grab it now while you can.

"Confident from the off. There is no need to hawk for customers with an overly seductive blush; this is all about pale, barely-there pink. There is a lovely floral nose, soft fragrant roses, and from the first taste there is a delicate structure that deepens on the palate. But, as the French would say, ‘il y a du vin’ – meaning that there is a sense of power alongside the elegance, a structure and a fresh acidity that gives the wine persistency, with a grip of minerality that gives a delicious mouthwatering finish. This marks a serious improvement on last year."  Decanter 91 points (17.5/20)

Vesselle Rose Friandise Demi Sec Nv Vesselle Rose Friandise Demi Sec Nv

"Light red with a frothy mousse. Cranberry, redcurrant and wild strawberry on the nose, with cherry skin and dark chocolate adding complexity. This smells like a Kir Royale mixed by Dali, or maybe Magritte. The expression of red fruits is remarkable for its depth and purity. Creamy red berry and cherry preserve flavors are firmed by gentle acidity and pick up an exotic floral quality on the back end. Finishes with excellent clarity and great persistence. I'd serve this as I would a light, exuberant red Burgundy."International Wine Cellar 93 points
