Terra Do Castelo Godello Ribeiro 2012 Product #27545 (In Stock)
Terra Do Castelo Godello Ribeiro 2012 Terra Do Castelo Godello Ribeiro 2012

Wines from this verdant corner of Northeastern Spain were shipped to England in the middle-ages, but the vineyards were virtually abandoned after phylloxera in the 1880s.  100 years later, Ribeiro began its resurgence, offering crisp, mineral-laced, wines from Albarino, Treixadura and, increasingly, Godello.  Like Ribeiro itself, the Godello grape was nearly extinct in the 1970s before growers rediscovered its ability to deliver ripe fruit, crisp acids, fine minerality, and a clear sense of place.

While the grape takes well to wood aging in warmer climates, our favorite examples are wines like this – crisp, clean, and super fresh whites made all in tank.  We love how Terra Do Castelo’s version delivers all of Godello’s and the region’s stony minerality with a big dose of ripe pineapple, tangerine, and lime zest fruit.  It’s a fantastic wine to keep on hand pairing with spring salads, shellfish, or even ham as well as for sipping by itself.  At these prices, it’s a wine to stock up on and enjoy this Spring, Summer, and Fall!

“This Godello is light, fruity and offers nice lime and apple aromas. It’s linear, minerally and has a true slate feel, then stony flavors of tangerine and ripe peach take over. A juicy, pure finish tops it off.”Wine Enthusiast 90 points

La Bastarda Bianco Toscana 2013 Product #29363 (In Stock)
La Bastarda Bianco Toscana 2013 La Bastarda Bianco Toscana 2013

As the whimsical label suggests, there's no reason to take this fresh and fruit-filled Trebbiano (70%) and Chardonnay blend too seriously.  Big, juicy, white peach, apricot, and lemon fruit sings out here with more zesty peach fruit and a touch of bitter almond on the finish.  A fine sipper and even better companion for trout, scampi or white fish.

Lismore Range Chardonnay 2013 Product #28208 (In Stock)
Lismore Range Chardonnay 2013 Lismore Range Chardonnay 2013

Just about the best value we’ve found in classy New World Chardonnay this year.  A California-based "negotiant" took advantage of the ripe 2013 harvest in Australia to purchase beautifully ripe Chardonnay and have it aged 5 months in French oak barrels.  Then - to keep costs down - it's shipped to the USA in an airtight bladder and bottled in California.

Leaving that all aside, it's flat out delicious.  Juicy apple and pear fruit take center stage with accents of spice, salty caramel, and just a touch of butter.  Rich and creamy, but with air it gets a bit more juicy with crisp apple livening the finish, but the pear, caramel, toasted nut, and hint of butter keep pumping through from first sip to last. A stunning value in a great everyday Chardonnay for parties, sipping, or most any food.

Val De Salis Chardonnay Pays d'Oc 2013 Product #28457 (In Stock)
Val De Salis Chardonnay Pays d'Oc 2013 Val De Salis Chardonnay Pays d'Oc 2013

The Gau family is unusual for Languedoc growers – they make only “single varietal” wines rather than the field blends of Grenache, Carignan, Cinsault and Syrah common all around them.  This 100% Chardonnay thrives in the rocky soils and warm climate here, and delivers lovely aromas of ripe pear and apple with pretty floral accents.  The flavors start crisp and refreshing and get even better with a little air, with sweet Bosc pear, peach and apricot flavors gaining complexity from the barest hint of caramel and mineral.  No oak here to interfere with the fruit, and we suspect a little Viognier has snuck into the Chardonnay vines, giving this much more perfume and peach than normally found this far south.  A luscious mouthful of wine with a crisp, clean, finish that will delight at a party and make you think of springtime when sipped on its own.

Chabert Chardonnay Vin De Pays d'Oc 2012 Product #27491 (In Stock)
Chabert Chardonnay Vin De Pays d'Oc 2012 Chabert Chardonnay Vin De Pays d'Oc 2012

For the past four years, customers have tasted this fresh, fruit-filled, Chardonnay and asked:  “How can something this good be so cheap?”  Lots of answers to that, but they boil down to our friends at locally based LVDH Imports finding an underappreciated vineyard in the deep south of France and having it made into a nice, clean, fresh, wine with no oak and no extra mark-ups.  Unfortunately, 2012 was the last vintage for this arrangement and these are the last cases of Chabert Chard we’ll ever see at the store.

In 2010, Chabert Chardonnay serves up ripe aromas of yellow apple, sweet pineapple, and even a touch of tangy fresh butter.  The texture is richer and more pure than you’d expect at this price point, with the ripe apple and peach fruit flavors gaining a bit of complexity from notes of lemon zest, pear skin, and lime.  The finish is clean and mouthwatering with just a touch of chalky mineral adding support.  Fun, tasty, and great value Chardonnay to enjoy anytime – but only available to buy while this last shipment lasts.

Val De Salis Viognier 2013 Product #28362 (In Stock)
Val De Salis Viognier 2013 Val De Salis Viognier 2013

The kind of wine that we hope for out of the South of France - a delicious value that way over-delivers on its modest price.  Here's a ripe, friendly, bottle of Viognier that delivers straight ahead peach, orange and honeysuckle aromas and flavors, a creamy texture, and just a dash of mineral on the finish.  A nice interplay between sweet, ripe, fruit and tangy acid at the end make this a charming companion at table and a supple summer sipper, too.

This Pinot Grigio from Italy's Veneto region really delivers for summer refreshment.  Aromas of Meyer lemon, ripe pears, and white flowers entice you to take a sip.  On the palate, there's enough richness to stand up to food, but it finishes snappy and clean, with those juicy pear flavors continuing on the finish.  A great value!

Martinez Lacuesta Blanco Rioja 2013 Product #28545 (In Stock)
Martinez Lacuesta Blanco Rioja 2013 Martinez Lacuesta Blanco Rioja 2013

This is 100% Viura grown in selected sites across Rioja. The ripe grapes are pressed and the juice goes into all new barrels - a mixture of French and American oak and acacia - to ferment and rest for 3 months. After that, the wine moves into stainless steel to complete its maturation, retaining freshness and verve to go along with the light oak influence.

Give it a sniff, and you'll be rewarded with pretty springtime aromas of peach, pineapple, and almond blossom. Take a sip and you'll discover a round, creamy, textured wine that's bursting with zesty fruit and juicy acids. After you swallow, you'll notice the fresh flavors lingering nicely as a hint of honey and bitter almond emerge at the end. Almost too easy to drink by itself for refreshment and fun, you'll love how this enhances warm weather favorites like fresh fish, grilled mushrooms, or marinated chicken.

De Angelis Falerio Doc Bianco 2013 Product #29003 (In Stock)
De Angelis Falerio Doc Bianco 2013 De Angelis Falerio Doc Bianco 2013

Best vintage yet for this fresh, fruit-filled, Italian white. The Falerio DOC sits at the southern end of Marche, on Italy's Adriatic coast just East of Umbria.  The relatively new DOC was created in 1975 to promote the region's two best white wine grapes-Passerina and Pecorino-while continuing to allow use of the ubiquitous Trebbiano.

The aromas are like sniffing limes and peaches at the beach-plenty of green and orchard fruit aromas with a saline note of the sea in the background.  On the palate, there's loads of ripe, creamy peach and nectarine fruit with a spritz of key lime juice and seltzer followed by a chalky, salty, mineral-driven, finish.  There's a lot of creamy richness here that will please fans of unoaked Chardonnays, but the zesty acidity and mineral element make this super fresh and mouthwatering.  Brilliant with a garlicky scampi and seafood but pretty darn fun to just drink at a party or with friends over antipasti.  Staggering value.

Dom Bernier (Les Frères Couillaud) Chardonnay 2013 Product #29220 (In Stock)
Dom Bernier (Les Frères Couillaud) Chardonnay 2013 Dom Bernier (Les Frères Couillaud) Chardonnay 2013

For everyone who loved the 2012 Le Souchais Chardonnay, here’s the 2013 edition – just with a different label to match what’s sold in France.  The brothers Couillaud are among the most outstanding winegrowers of the western Loire Valley.  And while their Muscadet is terrific, it was this complex and distinctive Chardonnay that captured our attention.  The 2013 harvest yielded nicely ripe Chardonnay fruit with plenty of heft and balancing acidity.  They fermented about 8% in barrel and the rest in concrete tanks, allowing all of the wine to go through malolactic fermentation.  The result is an amazingly rich, creamy, almost Meursault-like Chardonnay with the zesty cut and minerality of a top Chablis.  Honey, cream, chalk, and tart green apple aromas and flavors are delivered with nice energy and drive and linger on a long, mouthwatering, brilliantly complex finish.  A tad richer than the 2012, but just as dry and pure and mineral and delicious.

Ch La Roche St. Jean Blanc 2013 Product #28251 (In Stock)
Ch La Roche St. Jean Blanc 2013 Ch La Roche St. Jean Blanc 2013

2013 will be difficult for red Bordeaux, but the dry whites (like this one) excelled with that perfect blend of ripe fruit and vigorous, juicy, acids.  The 2013 edition of our best-selling Bordeaux Blanc ever delivers on the promise of the vintage.  It opens with its usual generous scents of white pineapple, honeysuckle, and orange zest.  The 100% Sauvignon Blanc fruit delivers more of the same on the palate plus a bit of firm green melon, tangerine, and a bite of citrus pith and oil.  A tad more elegant and fresh than the 2012, it's even more a great all-purpose white for parties, salads, fish, or just sipping on a warm afternoon.

Cadastres Picpoul De Pinet 2013 Product #28557 (In Stock)
Cadastres Picpoul De Pinet 2013 Cadastres Picpoul De Pinet 2013

This 100% estate grown Picpoul de Pinet clearly demonstrates just how under-rated this variety is. You’ll find pretty aromas of white flowers, lemon/lime citrus, and anise/fennel notes to start.  Then a crisp, minerally, texture with tart granny smith apple, green melon, and lemon/lime flavors and a clean, dry, finish.  This is just a great all-around daily white, with enough flavor and body to shine by itself at a party and enough complexity and depth to pair well with freshwater fish and lighter poultry dishes.  Tremendous value!

Man Family Wines Warrelwind Sauvignon Blanc 2014 Product #29090 (In Stock)
Man Family Wines Warrelwind Sauvignon Blanc 2014 Man Family Wines Warrelwind Sauvignon Blanc 2014

The brothers-in-law who make MAN wines grow most of the Sauvignon Blanc for this wine in high-altitude vineyards of the Agter-Paarl sub-region of South Africa’s Stellenbosch.  Strong winds blow through the vineyards most every day, leading to the name “Warrelwind” (or Whirlwind in English).  And there’s certainly a Warrelwind of aroma and flavor in this delicious South African Sauvignon Blanc!

Big, fruity, aromas of red grapefruit, berry, and green apple jump from the glass with just the right touch of Sauvignon’s signature fresh cut grass for complexity.  The flavors are wildly complex – Ruby Red grapefruit, green apple, honeydew melon, and a touch of something tropical take center stage with savory accents of lime peel and fresh grass.  A touch of Semillon (10%) and regular lees stirring gives this a bit of extra body and rounds off Sauvignon’s rough edges, but the finish is juicy, mouthwatering, and fresh.  A good deal more sophistication and complexity than you’d expect for this fine value price!

"The 2014 Warrelwind Sauvignon Blanc has a clean and fresh bouquet that leans more towards the tropical rather than herbaceous spectrum of aromas. The palate is well balanced with citrus lemon, grapefruit and touches of peach towards the focused finish. Good quality at a great price."Wine Advocate 88 points

Man Family Wines Chardonnay Padstal 2014 Product #29215 (In Stock)
Man Family Wines Chardonnay Padstal 2014 Man Family Wines Chardonnay Padstal 2014

As Robert Parker said reviewing Man’s last releases, “This winery has some fabulous values and should be high on the shopping lists of frugal consumers.”  The 2014 Chardonnay is a delight, bursting with cut apple, pear, pineapple and lime zest aromas and flavors with a very light touch of honeysuckle and cream.  Even with all the boisterous fruit, this is crisp, clean, and dry with a savory touch of smoke on the finish.  The secret here is fantastic fruit fermented in tank, with about 15% spending time in new American oak barrels for 4 months to season them before they’re used for reds.  You won’t taste “oak,” but the time in wood gives this snappy Chardonnay a bit more depth than you find in all tank examples.  Great with all kinds of food and also as a solo sipper.  A Chardonnay even a Sauvignon Blanc drinker will love!

Dom Du Pere Caboche VDP Vaucluse Blanc 2013 Dom Du Pere Caboche VDP Vaucluse Blanc 2013

We don't really know what is in this white Rhone field blend, but it's easy enough to recognize how delicious it is!  Peach and apricot stone fruit take center stage with something aromatic riding on top (Viognier?) and a snap of citrus (Sauvignon?) on the bright finish. At once rich and fresh, it's more delicious and refreshing than most $15 white Rhones and much longer on the lingering finish.
