Gosford Reserve Shiraz South Eastern Australia 2013 Product #28207 (In Stock)
Gosford Reserve Shiraz South Eastern Australia 2013 Gosford Reserve Shiraz South Eastern Australia 2013

Back before Aussie Shiraz started to taste the same - thick, heavy, and laboring under a load of over-toasted oak - we used to find great value reds like this with ease.  Harder now, but still very much possible as one sip of the fresh, clean, and just 13.9% abv Gossford Shiraz shows.  This is all about ripe Shiraz fruit - black grape, black plum, blackberry, cherry and more - with great lift from juicy fruit acids.  The well-moderated oak treatment (6 months in French and American barrels) adds attractive spice and smoke notes and rounds off Syrah's rough edges without getting in the way of drinking fun.  "Fun" is really what this fantastic value red is all about.  And, at this price, you can share it with a crowd or just enjoy the fun anytime by itself or with everything from grilled beef to pizza.

Lismore Range Chardonnay 2013 Product #28208 (In Stock)
Lismore Range Chardonnay 2013 Lismore Range Chardonnay 2013

Just about the best value we’ve found in classy New World Chardonnay this year.  A California-based "negotiant" took advantage of the ripe 2013 harvest in Australia to purchase beautifully ripe Chardonnay and have it aged 5 months in French oak barrels.  Then - to keep costs down - it's shipped to the USA in an airtight bladder and bottled in California.

Leaving that all aside, it's flat out delicious.  Juicy apple and pear fruit take center stage with accents of spice, salty caramel, and just a touch of butter.  Rich and creamy, but with air it gets a bit more juicy with crisp apple livening the finish, but the pear, caramel, toasted nut, and hint of butter keep pumping through from first sip to last. A stunning value in a great everyday Chardonnay for parties, sipping, or most any food.

Pewsey Vale Riesling 2013 Pewsey Vale Riesling 2013

Yet another outstanding release of what has become the benchmark dry (bone dry, actually!) Riesling from Australia's Eden Valley.  Lemon peel, tangerine, lime and green apple aromas lead to a round, focused, mouthful of bright citrus, apple, and chalk dust flavors.  Mouthwatering and a touch nervy on the brisk finish but certainly not austere.  It's going to be another 90+ year once the critics catch up!

Clarendon Hills Syrah Hickinbotham 2006 Product #29333 (In Stock)
Clarendon Hills Syrah Hickinbotham 2006 Clarendon Hills Syrah Hickinbotham 2006

One of Clarendon Hills' top wines from the "Grand Cru Collection," the 2006 Hickinbotham has plenty of opulent fruit but also Syrah's classic meaty notes and an extra gear of copmlexity from a few extra years in bottle.

"Initially brooding nose quickly opened to display powerful raspberry, kirsch and violet scents. Vivid red and dark berry flavors are corralled by nervy minerality and silky tannins, with anise and rose pastille notes building on the back end. Blends depth, sweetness and finesse with a deft hand, finishing with mounting sweetness but no candied character. Pretty cool stuff.”International Wine Cellar 94 points

“Clarendon Hills 2006 Syrahs are superb. They appear to be less structured and more forward than the 2005s and will be more approachable early on. The 2006 Syrah Hickinbotham Vineyard combines a voluptuous flavor profile with enough ripe tannin to evolve for 6-8 years. Drink it from 2015 to 2031.”Wine Advocate 97+ points

Clarendon Hills Grenache Romas 2007 Product #29332 (In Stock)
Clarendon Hills Grenache Romas 2007 Clarendon Hills Grenache Romas 2007

Limited.  Wines arrive February 20. From nearly 90 year-old vines, this is intense, deep, and generously ripe Australian Grenache at its best.  And, “at its best” Aussie Grenache is for drinking in the full flower of youth rather than cellaring for years and years.

“The most aromatically complex of this year's set of grenache bottlings, displaying red and dark berries, cherry, rooty sassafras, smoky herbs and a sexy floral quality. Rich, palate-staining raspberry and boysenberry flavors are given shape by fine-grained tannins, which gain power with air. Packed with dense fruit but slow to show itself right now, finishing with a late note of exotic floral pastilles and very good youthful grip. This could use a couple years to unwind.”International Wine Cellar 93+ points

“The 2007 Romas Vineyard Grenache has a medium garnet-purple color and moderately intense dried cherry and mulberry aromas with some spicy fruits of the forest compote and dark chocolate notes. Crisp, concentrated and very spicy on the palate, it offers a medium level of chewy tannins and a long opulent finish.Wine Advocate 91 points

“Ripe and expressive, with bold plum, blackberry and spicy, meaty flavors that mingle harmoniously on a medium-weight frame, persisting impressively on the generous finish.Wine Spectator 94 points

Clarendon Hills Syrah Astralis 2008 Product #29334 (In Stock)
Clarendon Hills Syrah Astralis 2008 Clarendon Hills Syrah Astralis 2008

“The 2008 Astralis Vineyard Syrah is a bit of a triumph given the vintage. Very deep garnet-purple in color, it reveals earthy notes to begin – moss-covered bark and black truffles, damp humus and iodine. At the core it presents aromas of black cherries and creme de cassis plus mocha and anise. The palate is concentrated and powerful yet elegant with firm, very fine grained tannins, very high acidity and ample flesh that is already presenting a multitude of layers. The finish is very long and though there’s some cedar showing, it should marry by the time this wine is ready to drink. This Astralis is very young and primary promising much more to come!"Wine Advocate 97 points

“Dense and chewy, bursting with juicy blueberry and dark plum fruit, this weaves black olive and spice notes into the long and grippy finish. Shows consistency throughout. Best from 2015 through 2020.” Wine Spectator 94 points
