Anton Bauer Rose Wagram 2013 Product #28380 (In Stock)
Anton Bauer Rose Wagram 2013 Anton Bauer Rose Wagram 2013

The best vintage yet for this citrusy, crackling, Austrian rosé made from Zweigeld, Merlot, and Syrah.  Bright aromas of cherry, raspberry, lemon zest, and a touch of crushed herb open the show. Then, "bang" goes a big mouthful of red berry, citrus, and candied watermelon fruit with juicy accents of lemon zest, herb and rhubarb.  Full of fruit, but finishing crisp, dry, and mouthwatering, you'll love this for sipping by the pool or with light foods like sushi and salads.  An outstanding bottle of Summer pink!

Steininger Gruner Veltliner Kamptal 2013 Product #28584 (In Stock)
Steininger Gruner Veltliner Kamptal 2013 Steininger Gruner Veltliner Kamptal 2013

Like it’s stablemate “Grand Grü” that we feature every year around Thanksgiving, Karl and Brigitta Steininger’s all tank Kamptal Grüner has been a staff and customer favorite here for years.  Start with the wonderful, summery, aromatics of yellow peach, peach skin, and wet stone minerality that really jump out of the glass.  Then notice the ripe fruit flavors – peach puree, yellow pear, apricot and golden apple – framed with touches of baking spice, citrus zest, and river stone.  Finally, enjoy how the peach turns tangy and a touch of lime and green apple come out on the finish and make your mouth water and face break out into a smile.  All this flavor intensity in a wine that hovers comfortably around 13% abv and costs much, much, less than you’d expect.

“Lifted, pear-scented freshness dominates the nose while the palate is soft but has a pleasing and linear citrus focus. This is poised and offers sophisticated refreshment.”Wine Enthusiast 92 points

Hillinger Secco NV Hillinger Secco NV

Gently sparkling with fine fruit: that's the Hillinger Secco, the winery's light pink creation of 100% Pinot Noir grapes. This is easily the best (and most dry) release yet. Pretty in the glass and loaded with aromas and flavors of tangy strawberry, cranberry and cherry fruit.  Juicy and refreshingly dry on the tangy finish, this would be a great brunch or warm afternoon drink!

Tegernseerhof Gruner Veltliner T26 2012 Product #27022 (In Stock)
Tegernseerhof Gruner Veltliner T26 2012 Tegernseerhof Gruner Veltliner T26 2012

From the "Frauenweingarten" vineyard ("woman's vineyard") in Austria's Wachau region, comes this pure, satisfying, great quality Gruner Veltliner from Martin Mittelbach and local importer extraodinaire Klaus Wittauer. It's a really impressive value for a Gruner of this quality.

The aromas entice with green apple, apricot, and that hint of white pepper and soft herbs characteristic of Grüner Veltliner. On the palate the delicious, tart yet unctuous flavors of tropical fruit and Granny Smith apple are supported by a surprising amount of richness.

This single vineyard wine is designated Federspiel, which corresponds roughly to the Kabinett level of ripeness in the German quality designation system. However, instead of being made into an off-dry wine, this Grüner is vinified dry, so that extra ripeness translates into pleasing heft and mouth coating richness rather than sweetness. The clean, juicy finish with that signature whiff of pepper makes this incredibly versatile at the table. Our favorite matches, as disparate as they seem, are sushi, fried chicken, and charcuterie. Sounds odd, we know, but trust us!

Tegernseerhof Gruner Veltliner Bergdistel 375ml 2011 Tegernseerhof Gruner Veltliner Bergdistel 375ml 2011

Intense, delicious Gruner Veltliner from the lower terraces of Tegernseerhof's holdings in the Wachau.  Its Smaragd designation means the grapes got ripe enough for the equivalent of Spatlese in the German system, but this wine is vinified dry.  Aromas of stone fruit and herbs, and a steely, driving minerality on the palate.  Try it with sushi and Asian fusian cuisine - or grilled sausages!

Hillinger Pinot Gris 2012 Product #27590 (In Stock)
Hillinger Pinot Gris 2012 Hillinger Pinot Gris 2012

Our first thought when tasting this Pinot Gris was “wow!”  This intensely flavored white from Austria’s Burgenland, an area mostly known for reds, is no wussy, bland Pinot Grigio.  It’s hand-harvested and fermented in stainless steel tanks with a bit more skin contact than is usual for a white wine.  This allows the wine to pick up more color and flavor from the grapes’ grayish-pink skins.  The aromas are enormously appealing and perfect for fall – pear, nutmeg, ripe, golden apple, and a little hint of ginger.

About 5% of the wine is fermented in used barriques, rounding out the wine’s edges, and giving that sophisticated hint of spice to its flavor profile.  On the palate, those delicious spicy pear flavors carry through.  This wine packs a ton of richness and flavor into a very reasonable 12.5% ABV.  It finishes snappy and fresh, and that little bit of ginger kicks right back in.  This is the perfect cocktail party white to get everyone’s mouth watering, but its intensity and weight allows it to stand up to pretty robust food.

A stunning dry Riesling that delivers both ripe peach and apricot fruit and a minerally, seltzer-like, cut to die for.  So vibrant that the lime zest dusted peach fruit flavors almost bubble across your palate.  Deep, vibrant, delicious - a Riesling to change people's minds with.

"Pure, poised citrus lift combines pink and yellow grapefruit peel on the nose, with more cushioning on the textured, concentrated palate. A stony, mineral background plays against the lively, bright acid that leaves you wanting more."Wine Enthusiast 91 points

Steininger Gruner Veltliner Seckt 2011 Product #27835 (In Stock)
Steininger Gruner Veltliner Seckt 2011 Steininger Gruner Veltliner Seckt 2011

So, what happens when you take a great still wine – in this case, the 2011 Grüner Veltliner Kamptal– and give it a little fizz?  Pure joy ensues!

Steininger is Kamptal’s top producer of sparkling wines and one of the very best in all of Austria.  The family specializes in single varietal, single vintage, fizz that showcases the character of the grape and growing season.  The 2011 Grüner Veltliner Sekt is a beauty, at once creamy and full of classic Grüner fruit and terrifically dry and vibrant.  The in-bottle secondary fermentation delivers plenty of fizz, but this still reads “Grüner” with bright apple, green pea, and white pepper notes.  Easy to sip on its own and fun to pair with savory sausage or freshwater fish.

Steininger Gruner Veltliner Grand Gru 2012 Product #28056 (In Stock)
Steininger Gruner Veltliner Grand Gru 2012 Steininger Gruner Veltliner Grand Gru 2012

Karl and Eva Steininger make a range of delicious wines from Austria’s best white grape, and they intend the Grand Grü to be the top of their line.  The name is a fun play on words – evoking both the French concept of “Grand Cru” quality and the Steininger’s belief that this is a “Grand” Grüner Veltliner!  Fruit for this wine comes from the Steininger’s best vineyard and is harvested in very late September or October.  The ripe fruit ferments in stainless steel and then goes into large Acacia wood casks for malolactic fermentation and aging.

Pour a glass and you’ll meet generous aromas of creamy ripe pear, peach, and apricot.  Take a sip and you’ll find autumn fruits – golden pear and apple – plus lime zest and citrus with a dash of baking spice and hints of classing Grüner white pepper.  The texture is creamy and rich with plenty of acidity to keep things fresh and refreshing.  The finish is long, mouthwatering, and features a hint of lime, ginger and spice as it lingers.  Rich and round enough to handle the full range of Thanksgiving Dinner favorites and clean and juicy enough to keep you coming back for more.
