- Mapreco Vinho Verde 2012 Product #27192 (In Stock)
-
-
Nothing says "Spring" (or Summer!) like the new crop of Portugal's famous "green wine", Vinho Verde. Bottled from tank without racking, the 2012 Mapreco has the classic spritz of tingling bubbles you'd expect with plenty of apricot and tangy orange/tangerine fruit. There's a brothy, seltzer-like, hint of the sea here, too, with a bright and citrusy finish. Light (just 10% alcohol) and very fun.
- Aviva Vinho Verde 2012 Product #27198 (In Stock)
-
-
Literally translated as "Green Wine," Vinho Verde really means young, fresh, wine that's ready to enjoy starting the spring after the harvest. Made from an assortment of native Portuguese grapes (in this case 100% Loureiro), it's raised in tank and bottled without racking, leaving the barest trace of dissolved gas in the wine to prickle on your tongue. Tangy apricot and green peach fruit, fresh flowers, and a bright, lemony, acidity all shine in this light (just 11.0% abv) white to enjoy on its own or with fresh salads or fish.
- Izidro Rainwater Madeira Nv Product #22793 (In Stock)
-
-
Perfect as an apéritif or after dinner drink, and useful in many recipes as well. Madeira comes in two forms, dry or sweet, and both are thick, concentrated and fragrant. There is just the slightest hint of residual sweetness in this Rainwater. Once opened, Madeira can be kept in the refrigerator for a few weeks with little if any change in its complex aromatics and flavors, making it the perfect alternative to Port to keep around for those times when you just want 'a little something.'
- Quinta Do Noval Tawny Porto NV Product #26430 (In Stock)
-
-
What a nice value in Tawny Port. A blend of young and wood-matured wines, this delivers a nice blend of red fruit, caramel, and spice flavors with an easy, gentle, finish.
"Silky-tasting, with very fresh and vibrant flavors of dark plum, chocolate and spice. The lush finish is supple and refined. Drink now."Wine Spectator 89 points
- Quinta Do Noval Black Porto NV Product #26431 (In Stock)
-
-
A ruby-styled Port that delivers all the fruit you'd hope for with no candied or off flavors or biting heat. Easy to drink and excellent with strong cheeses, dried fruit, and nuts.
"Shows beautiful aromas of sliced plum and peach, with raspberry jam. Medium-bodied and lightly sweet, with fine tannins and a fruity finish. Refined and pretty."Wine Spectator 88 points
- Quinta Dona Matilde Tinto 2009 Product #26554 (In Stock)
-
-
This family-owned Port producer in the Douro Valley alsm makes terrific dry wines, like this blend of old-vine Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Amarela. Ripe, almost boisterous, aromas of blackberry, black plum and raspberry with pretty accents of violets and a touch of eucalyptus. In the mouth still youthfully compact but loaded with juicy black plum, raspberry and a hint of dark chocolate. Softly textured with with terrific drive and lingering tangy plum and spice flavors over ripe, silky, tannins.
- Rozes Porto White Reserve NV Product #25066 (In Stock)
-
-
First, yes - this is a full 750ml bottle! It's also a fascinating take on white Port. Because the white wine aged in wood for 8 years, this drinks like a fantastically vibrant, youthful, tawney Port. Full of dried apricot and raisin fruit and lightly caramelized walnut and almond flavors, it's lightly sweet and super long on the palate. Delicous!
- Quinta Do Noval Late Bottled Vintage 2007 Product #26960 (In Stock)
-
-
While the 2005 earned a strong Wine Spectator 93 point rating, as you'd expect given the outstanding 2007 vintage, this is even better. Very much in the Quinta do Noval style, with masses of dark plum, blackberry, and black raspberry fruit accented by a touch of bitter chocolate that are lifted by impeccable acidity and firm, almost crisp, tannins. A dose of melted licorice emerges on the long, juicy, finish. Yummy.
- Graham's 10 Year Tawny Porto Product #10639 (In Stock)
-
-
A classic 10 Year Tawny Port, this marries notes of dried apple and berry with a touch of creamy caramel.
"This has a zesty, sweet floral aroma, with well-spiced flavors of apple tart, flan and cocoa powder. The plush, mouthfilling finish of cream, vanilla and raspberry is fresh and balanced."Wine Spectator 91 points
- Conceito Vintage Port 2007 Product #23267 (In Stock)
-
-
The 2007 Port vintage is shaping up as a beauty, so it's no surprise that Rita Ferreria Marques had delivered an exciting wine. A touch more polished than the powerful 2005 Vintage, we agree with Wine Advocate - this is "a sleeper of the vintage" and great value, too!
"The purple-colored 2007 Conceito Vintage Port offers up an attractive perfume of mineral, pencil lead, blackberry, and black currants. This leads to an elegantly styled wine with excellent volume, depth, and grip. It has enough structure to evolve for a decade along with layers of savory fruit for balance. This lengthy effort will offer a drinking window extending from 2015 to 2027. It is a sleeper of the vintage. As an aside, Jonas Gustafson, the importer, has an outstanding Spanish portfolio so it is not a surprise to me that he has uncovered this little-known producer." Wine Advocate 90 points
- Warre's Vintage Port 2011 375ml Product #27180 (In Stock)

Half-Bottles! One of my favorites at the Symington tasting, this opens with aromas of black fruit, berry blossom, and licorice. Bold and intensely flavored with dried black fruits, black tea, sweet chocolate, and a here-and-gone sense of orange blossom. The texture is fantastic, with the ripe, dense, flavors offset by bright acidity and firm minerality. Masses and masses of grip, but the tannin is fully ripe and velvety. Hard to resist right now.
“Amazing aromas of blackberries, wet earth, and blueberries. Extremely aromatic. Thai basil too. It's full-bodied, medium sweet, and very, very dense. Chewy yet velvety tannins. So beautiful. Excited about this. Sexy.” James Suckling 95-96 points
“More open, much looser and more obviously spicy than Graham. Rich and broad and chocolate wrapped prunes. Lots of fun and appeal. Finishes dry.” Jancis Robinson 18/20 points
Pre-sale orders due May 31, 2013 and wines arrive Sept/Oct 2013. Order 6 half-bottles or more for sale prices or 12 half-bottles or more for case price. - Broadbent Colheita Madeira 1996 Product #21462 (In Stock)
-
-
A magnificent, nutty and lightly sweet, Madeira with a classic bite and salty tang at the end. Beautiful with cheese or nuts or caramel desserts. Because Madeira is already oxidized and "cooked," it's more or less indestructible. Open a bottle, leave it on the counter, and enjoy over months (or longer!).
"The 1996 Colheita was aged in oak casks for five years and then bottled. It has a very well-defined bouquet of dried figs, lemon rind, dried herbs and a touch of dates that soar from first opening and continue to bloom over several hours. The palate is fresh and lively. This is a more feminine Colheita with a crisp thread of acidity: lovely touches of marmalade and orange rind counterbalancing its viscous texture. It exhibits impressive cohesion and linearity to create a Colheita that has intent and purpose, full of energy and race."Wine Advocate 93 points
- Quinta Dona Matilde Vintage Port 2007 Product #26547 (In Stock)
-
-
The Barros family has been famous for it's vintage Port since the 1920s, but they sold their estates in 2006. Now, the family has bought back their formal home estate and is making classic vintage Port once again. From the outstanding 2007 vintage, this elegant Vintage Port is loaded with dark fruit, chocolate, and spice notes. Sweet in the mid-palate, dry and clean on the finish, and loaded with minerality and fine tannins. Age it for 20 years or drink it tonight after a brief decant.
- Quinta Dona Matilde Porto Colheita 2001 Product #26521 (In Stock)

"Colheita" means a single-vintage Tawny port, and this one is a beauty. Medium-sweet and nutty with hints of red fruit, caramel, and toasted nuts, this hand-crafted wine is super elegant and complex and finishes long and nutty. Try it cool on it's own or with everything from Stilton cheese, candied nuts, or - one of my favorites - pecan pie!
- Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port 2009 375 Ml Product #24683 (In Stock)
-
-
Usually my personal favorite of the line-up (although 2007 Fonseca is pretty impressive!), the 2009 Taylor Fladgate delivers the Bordeaux-like elegance and class it's known for. On the nose black fruit with notes of raspberry and plum and hints of graphite and cedar. The flavors stay black with currant and cherry appearing plus dark licorice root, apple skin, and more graphite. The deep flavors stay over top of the firm, grippy, mouth-coating tannins that keep everything focused and almost elegant (if such a big wine can be elegant). Love it.
"Going back and forth, the Taylor's 2009 has a lighter nose than the 2007 with precise dark cherry, Seville orange, fresh fig and a hint of scorched soil. The palate is full-bodied packed with ripe black cherries, fresh fig and white pepper; very harmonious and focused although I feel that the 2007 has a little more depth and persistency. Very pretty and very pure, this Taylor's may well put on weight with a couple of years in bottle and merit a higher mark."Wine Advocate 95 points
- Fonseca Vintage Port 2011 375 Ml Product #27178 (In Stock)
-
-
Half-Bottle. Just like Napa Cabernet often overshadows Bordeaux in blind tastings, so Fonseca’s extroverted, generous, and opulent character can make even Taylor’s seem shy. In a cooler, more restrained, vintage like 2011, Fonseca’s extravagance gets just a touch more class and polish than usual. The winemaker’s notes: “he nose opens onto a dense brooding mass of dark blackberry and blackcurrant fruit. Compact and concentrated, it also displays exceptional purity - one of the hallmarks of the 2011 vintage. The nose gradually opens to reveal an array of heady herbal scents, discreet notes of exotic wood, marzipan and plum as well as an attractive graphite minerality. Solid well integrated tannins give both volume and firmness to the palate with its reserves of dense black fruit infused with dark chocolate and liquorice. A vigourous, concentrated fruit-driven Vintage Port, showing the classic opulence of Fonseca.”
“Heady, opulent nose. Completely enveloping, Smells as though there is going to be the most fabulous texture. Wow! All stops pulled out for this one. It's all absolutely gorgeous intensity of sweet fruit on the front palate and then gradually the schist and structure reveal themselves. This is really wonderful stuff. So tempting to sip it decades before it is ready.” Jancis Robinson 19.5/20 points

Half-Bottle! I haven’t had the chance to try 2011 Taylor Fladgate, but it’s always one of the very top wines in Vintage Port (and, as Jancis Robinson indicates, that’s true again in 2011!). Taylor’s is always the most trim, elegant, and firm Port – a “Bordeaux” to Fonseca’s “Napa Cabernet” as the makers describe it. Here are their notes: “Impenetrable blue-black colour with narrow purple rim. Intricate and finely constituted, the nose displays classic Taylor elegance and poise. A dense core of pure complex fruit, redolent of blackberry and cassis, is enveloped in a fragrant aura of violets. Resiny garrigue scents and subtle notes of of liquorice and black coffee emerge as the nose develops. On the palate, taut, linear tannins provide a solid framework. Fine berry fruit flavours linger into the finish where the tannins re-emerge.”
“This is restrained. well mannered, discreet, keeps its powder very dry. But on the palate it opens out in the most superb, burgundian peacock's tail sort of way. Another wonderful wine from The Fladgate Partnership. Utterly different from the Fonseca. Upright and straight backed. But irreproachable. My gums are virtually impervious to sugar and acid but this wine set them vibrating a bit. Dried prunes ground up with rocks.” Jancis Robinson 19.5/20 points

If Croft is the Aussie Shiraz of the line, then Fonseca is the Napa Cabernet. The story here is all about power - powerful aromatics, powerful palate, powerful tannins. Big aromas feature dark black currant and plum accented by notes of chocolate, vanilla, and coffee with citrus and menthol overtones. In the mouth, firm and packed with muscular black fruit, dark chocolate, and licorice root flavors. As the velvet cloaked tannins well up on the finish, a beautiful floral note emerges as well. This probably isn't as fine as the 2007, but it's outstanding nonetheless!
"The Fonseca 2009 has a very ripe sweet prune and fig-tinged bouquet that is very precocious. Touches of smoke, raisin and dark plum begin to emerge with time, though it needs to evolve a little more cohesion. The palate is full-bodied with saturated tannins, luscious dark berried fruit, touches of pomegranate, fig and dates that lead to a gently grippy, persistent finish."Wine Advocate 93 points
- Broadbent Vintage Port 2007 Product #26992 (In Stock)
-
-
A very fine, rich, and velvety Port from one of the greatest vintages ever. Super value.
"The 2007 Broadbent Vintage Port is opaque purple-colored with a fragrant bouquet of earth, mineral, spice box, blackberry and licorice that jumps from the glass. On the palate it is intensely flavored, fleshy, and moderately structured with a decade of aging potential. This medium long, savory, balanced Port should drink well through 2032."Wine Advocate 91 points
"Offers raisin and dried berry notes, with hints of black pepper and spices. Full-bodied, with a fiery dried fruit aftertaste and a chewy finish. Medium sweet. Very grapey."Wine Spectator 90 points
