Finca Del Castillo Tempranillo La Mancha 2011 Product #27038 (In Stock)
Finca Del Castillo Tempranillo La Mancha 2011 Finca Del Castillo Tempranillo La Mancha 2011

We have no idea how such a delicious wine made from 30 year-old, dry farmed, Tempranillo vines in La Manacha could be quite this inexpensive…but we’re glad it is! This is real, honest, “vinous” wine, packed with cranberry and black cherry fruit, accents of licorice root and cracked pepper, and long, smooth and refreshing on the finish.  A perfect wine for big celebratory parties, weddings, back yard cookouts, or just sipping all on its own.

“Bright ruby. Fresh raspberry and cherry aromas are complicated by black pepper and candied rose. Tightly focused red berry flavors are underscored by smoky mineral and floral qualities. Emphatically fruity and silky in texture, with a smooth, gently sweet finish.”International Wine Cellar 88 points

El Cortijillo Blanco Verdejo 2012 Product #27229 (In Stock)
El Cortijillo Blanco Verdejo 2012 El Cortijillo Blanco Verdejo 2012

Here's a screaming value white wine from the Spanish land of La Mancha.  It's 100% Verdejo - a grape that, at it's best, is kind of a cross between Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio.  Bright, fresh, aromas of ripe peach, fresh grass, and mineral notes lead to a juicy mouthful of fresh apricot, peach, and citrus fruit with a touch of fruit blossom and mint for complexity.  Round and zesty in the middle and clean and bright on the finish where the apricot and papaya flavors linger nicely.  A mouthwatering, refreshing, white to drink on any warm day and a great match for summer salads and grilled white meats or fish.

Here's the kind of value that made Spain famous in the international wine world, but that seems to have vanished in recent years. And, the 2011 is even tastier than the very fine 2010!  This is 100% Tempranillo, aged 3 years in American Oak, and it delivers loads of honest, unconfected, aromas and flavors with a juicy, zingy, finish.  A fine party or backyard cookout red at a very compelling price.

Another great vintage for this perennial "best value" Garnacha from Campo de Borgia.  Powerful, deep aromas of black raspberry and cherry with accents of minerals and fresh cut flowers.  Juicy and fresh in the mouth but with plenty of dark berry and cherry fruit and hints of lavender and liquorice.  Long and clean on the spicy finish over oodles of ripe fruit.  Easy to drink, but worth attending to.

Martinez Lacuesta Blanco Rioja 2012 Product #27182 (In Stock)
Martinez Lacuesta Blanco Rioja 2012 Martinez Lacuesta Blanco Rioja 2012

This is 100% Viura grown in selected sites across Rioja. The ripe grapes are pressed and the juice goes into all new barrels - a mixture of French and American oak and acacia - to ferment and rest for 3 months. After that, the wine moves into stainless steel to complete its maturation, retaining freshness and verve to go along with the light oak influence.

The 2012 is a lot like the 2011 but a tad richer and deeper. Give it a sniff, and you'll be rewarded with pretty springtime aromas of peach, pineapple, and almond blossom. Take a sip and you'll discover a round, creamy, textured wine that's bursting with zesty fruit and juicy acids. After you swallow, you'll notice the fresh flavors lingering nicely as a hint of honey and bitter almond emerge at the end. Almost too easy to drink by itself for refreshment and fun, you'll love how this enhances warm weather favorites like fresh fish, grilled mushrooms, or marinated chicken.

This lovely Spanish Sauvignon Blanc bursts from the glass with bold aromas of peach, apricot, passion fruit, and mango.  In the mouth, it's at once bright and round and packed with orchard fruit, citrus, and green pineapple fruit and just the right dash of herb.  Showy, but easygoing and very sippable, there's enough fruit here for New Zealand SB fans in a more relaxed, easy, package.

Dinarells Negre Emporda 2012 Product #27165 (In Stock)
Dinarells Negre Emporda 2012 Dinarells Negre Emporda 2012

This is just shockingly interesting and delicious for the money.  It comes from Spain’s Emporda Costa Brava region in the very northeastern corner of Catalonia near the border with France. It’s steep, rocky, territory that’s regularly lashed by the Tramontane, strong northerly winds that can sweep through the region at 70mph.

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with traditional Garnacha and Mazuelo, this is hand-harvested and made in tank.  The show opens with luscious aromas of black plum, crushed blackberries, leather and bitter chocolate with just a touch of lavender.  Then, it’s juicy and fresh in the mouth with loads of sweet blackberry and plum fruit accented by a bit of bitter chocolate, earth and spice flavors. A squirt of blood orange acidity keeps things fresh and dark fruit, nutmeg, and slate notes all linger nicely.  Easy enough to just sip and enough going on to make it a great food wine, too.

Palacios Remondo Rioja La Vendimia 2010 Product #27128 (In Stock)
Palacios Remondo Rioja La Vendimia 2010 Palacios Remondo Rioja La Vendimia 2010

"The 2010 Vendimia has a lifted nose driven by Garnacha. It offers ripe maraschino cherry, marmalade and damson fruit that is uncomplicated but very seductive. The palate is medium-bodied and very well-balanced, underpinned by fine, but firm tannins. There is a rigid backbone to this wine that complements the fleshy red currant and raspberry fruit on the finish. Drink now-2017."Wine Advocate 90 points

Vina Alarba Old Vines Garnacha 2011 Product #26315 (In Stock)
Vina Alarba Old Vines Garnacha 2011 Vina Alarba Old Vines Garnacha 2011

Here’s one of those wines that leaves you scratching your head and asking, “How did they make something this good at this price?!?”  Old vine (50 years and more), bush-trained, Garnacha is naturally low-yielding and concentrated in this barren, high-altitude, region.  All fruit is hand-harvested, double-sorted, and vinified in a mix of stainless steel, concrete and oak.

You'll find a lovely perfume of fresh earth, lavender, and black cherries leading to medium-bodied, fresh, flavors of tart cherry and black raspberry with a spicy, mineral, edge.  The balance here is just perfect and the interplay of sweet fruit, tangy acidity, fresh earth, warm stones, and ripe tannin will pull you back for sip after sip.  Chill this to get even more juicy freshness or let it warm up for the fruit to darken and gain richness.  A terrific sipper, it will work at table with anything from grilled fish to roasted vegitables or pork.  And, just silly value at this price!

Clua Mas D'en Pol Blanca 2012 Product #27300 (In Stock)
Clua Mas D'en Pol Blanca 2012 Clua Mas D'en Pol Blanca 2012

Maybe it’s the great 2012 vintage (a winner in pretty much all of Europe), or perhaps it’s a little more rigorous vineyard work or a touch more sophistication in the blend.  Or, it could just be that Xavier left Muscat out of the blend this year.  Whatever the cause, this is far and away my favorite release of this sophisticated but crowd-pleasing white ever.

Xavier makes this from Grenache Blanc, Chardonnay and a dash of Sauvignon Blanc grown in the rocky, hard-to-work, vineyards of Terra Alta.  Fermented cool in tank and bottled without ever touching a barrel, it delivers just the right balance of luscious nectarine and tangy pineapple fruit with hints of lemon grass and lime pith.  Round, generous, and mouthfilling, the real excitement here is on the back palate and finish where a burst of selzer, chalk, and briny mineral emerges under the mouthwatering acidity.  A refreshing white you’ll love sipping on the back deck with nibbles and enjoy even more with shellfish, sausage, or paella.  Just a winner all around.

Bodegas Laukote Tempranillo Tinto 2012 Product #27283 (In Stock)
Bodegas Laukote Tempranillo Tinto 2012 Bodegas Laukote Tempranillo Tinto 2012

Only someone a like winemaker Norberto Miguel would call wine from 35 year-old vines his “young vine” cuvee or sell it at such a silly good price.  Norberto farms and harvests this Tempranillo for freshness and verve, and then ferments it in tank using carbonic maceration – the technique made famous in Beaujolais – to retain all of the grapes’ juicy fruit.

The Wine Advocate 90 point 2009 was one of our “go to” party and weeknight supper wines a few years ago and his 2010 was our very first Chain Bridge Cellars Selection – a designation we give to the very best food-friendly, great value, wines ready to enjoy tonight before, during, and after a meal.  The 2012 is even better!  Even darker and more fruit-filled than in the past, it serves up explosive aromas and flavors of ripe black cherry and plum, licorice, lilac, and a touch of aged tobacco.  The refreshing acidity makes your mouth water and hand reach for another sip, and the flavors of black fruit, licorice, and fresh herb linger on and on.  More than ripe and generous enough to drink on its own (try it with a quick chill!), there’s sneaky structure here, with fine, ripe, tannins providing the support it needs to work with a huge range of foods.  And, the best in the USA price isn’t bad, either!

Bodegas Rafael Palacios Sabrego Valdeorras 2011 Bodegas Rafael Palacios Sabrego Valdeorras 2011

This 90 pointer is 100% Godello made in steel but with extra richness from four months aging on its lees.  Bright lemon, peach and honeysuckle aromas lead to supple orchard fruit flavors with a dash of refreshing bitterness and a hint of tarragon.  Fine wine, stellar value.

"Light gold. Intensely perfumed scents of lemon and blood pith, dried pear and anise, complicated by a subtle almond quality. Deep, pliant orchard and pit fruits on the palate, with refreshingly bitter quinine and tarragon notes on the back end. Dusty minerality adds bite and grip to the long, tangy finish, which leaves a note of tarragon behind."International Wine Cellar 90 points

The best vintage in a while for this always excellent Toro Tempranillo value!  Plenty of ripe blackberry and plum, chocolate, and a nice touch of spice on the nose and palate.  Gently marked by well-integrated American oak, this is still a touch firm on the finish, so better with food.  Very nice value!

"Bright violet color. Smoky perfume of candied cherry and dark berries with a spicy overtone. Pliant and velvety in texture, offering gently sweet cherry and blackberry flavors that put on weight in the glass. Another very nice release of the old-vine Tinto de Toro (Tempranillo) from Telmo Rodriguez.  No oak, but lots of lush richness and a touch of licorice and chocolate from the ripe grapes, too.  Nice write up in the Washington Post as well!

"Star Spanish winemaker Telmo Rodriguez produces this sensuous red from old-vines Tinto de Toro, the local name for Spain’s flagship Tempranillo. Fermented in concrete and stainless steel, this unoaked wine is lush and dense, almost chewy in texture.
