Barboursville Viognier Reserve 2011 Barboursville Viognier Reserve 2011

"Exceptionally articulate varietal expression of Viognier. Paradise Springs Meritage 2010 Product #26335 (In Stock)
Paradise Springs Meritage 2010 Paradise Springs Meritage 2010

This is a fine example of how excellent Virginia wines can be - and an all-too-rare value to boot!  From vineyards just down the road from here, this is a classic Bordeaux blend: 37% Cabernet Franc, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 11% Petit Verdot, 8% Malbec.  Aromas of blackcurrant, cherry, fresh herb and spice lead to a palate of round, rich, black fruits, tobacco, cedar and vanilla.  Fine ripe tannin and just the right touch of acidity lift the long and complex finish.

Glen Manor Vin Rouge 2011 Product #26910 (In Stock)
Glen Manor Vin Rouge 2011 Glen Manor Vin Rouge 2011

A Bordeaux style blend from one of our favorite Virginia wineries, Glen Manor's Vin Rouge is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Petit Verdot, and 14% Merlot that is surprisingly soft considering the full-bodied grapes that make up the blen.  Rich and mouthfilling, but with a pleasing freshness of fruit, it's perfect for richer dishes like duck or game.

Glen Manor Hodder Hill Red 2010 Product #26909 (In Stock)
Glen Manor Hodder Hill Red 2010 Glen Manor Hodder Hill Red 2010

If you look around, you’ll notice that we don’t carry a lot of Virginia wine – so, you might wonder, why do we have several selections from Glen Manor?  The answer is simple – owner/winemaker Jeff White is doing something special out near Front Royal, Virginia.  The wines are all top quality wines for their price point.  Not “top quality Virginia wines” – just “top quality” period.

The 2010 Hodder Hill single vineyard blend of Cab Sauv, Merlot, and Petit Verdot is a great example.  The aromas are complex and forward, featuring blackberry/blueberry fruit, coffee, orange peel and spicy tobacco notes.  In the mouth it’s full-bodied and nicely concentrated, but elegant layered, too.  The texture and flavors suggest a top Washington state blend with firm casis/currant, coffee and tobacco flavors and just a touch of fresh herb.  Drinking well now and built to age 5-10 years.  Great stuff.
