Efeste Sauvignon Blanc Sauvage 2011 Efeste Sauvignon Blanc Sauvage 2011

The round texture plus brilliant, crisp, acids and minerality make this a terrific all year ‘round Sauvignon Blanc!

"Bright yellow-green. Aromas of ripe apple, gooseberry and underripe pineapple; in a Sancerre style. Conveys a broader, softer, less minerally impression than the Feral bottling, but still has excellent energy for such a round style. If the Feral is summer sauvignon, this is for winter drinking."International Wine Cellar 91 points

We have fallen in love with the classic, honest wines from Hedges Family Estate! This family-owned Washington state winery has its roots in Old-World winemaking, eschews scores, and is all about showcasing the potential of the terroir in Washington. Devoid of flash, pretention, or inflated prices, this winery represents the kind of honest winemaking and independent spirit that we love to support.  It doesn't hurt that the wine's delicious!

CMS is a blend of Cabernet and Merlot with a dash of Syrah. You'll find plenty of dark fruit, earth, and baking spices on the nose. On the palate the fruit flavors are lush and satisfying, but the structure and juicy acidity keeps it all in balance. Fabulous for a grilled steak or a big, juicy burger!

Guild Red Wine Lot 6 2009 Product #27011 (In Stock)
Guild Red Wine Lot 6 2009 Guild Red Wine Lot 6 2009

It’s not clear how 4 Oregon winemakers could get a hold of Syrah, Mourvedre and Counoise from Washington state and then make a dead ringer for Ann Gros’s Minervois, but that’s why wine is so fun!  This is delicious, limited, and well priced.  Move, already.

This Rhone-style blend opens with tangy fruit and violet aromas.  On the palate, it's got delicious, crunchy fruit that makes you look for something to eat, like maybe some delicious charcuterie.  Enough fruit for that 'yum,' factor, and enough structure to stand up to real food.

Thurston Wolfe Cabernet Sauvignon "The Teacher" 2010 Product #26311 (In Stock)
Thurston Wolfe Cabernet Sauvignon Thurston Wolfe Cabernet Sauvignon

The undisputed “Ugliest Label In the Store” award winner is actually a terrific bottle of Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. As Wine Advocate said, “Thurston Wolfe is an artisanal producer of wines with personality. The production of these wines ranges from 48 cases to 588 cases so interested parties are advised to get on the mailing list.”

The 2010 is 100% Cabernet from three vineyard’s in the famous  Horse Heaven Hills region, The Teacher gets 21 months in French, American and Hungarian oak to smooth out any rough edges.  The aromas are big and complex: grilled bread, pencil lead, Asianspice, violets, and loads of dark black fruit.  Then, a big mouthful of ripe black fruits and oak spice in a full bodied, rich, package.  Nicely ripe and firm tannin give support and make this a great choice for anything roasted or grilled.

Baer Winery Star Blend 2009 Product #26355 (In Stock)
Baer Winery Star Blend 2009 Baer Winery Star Blend 2009

A Merlot of unusual interest and class from one of Washington State's best up-and-comers. Just 273 cases made of this rich blend of nearly 80% Merlot with dashes of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon. It's dark and elegant with generous aromas of black fruits, olive, herb and licorice.  Mouthfilling and creamy, with deep chocolate cherry, fresh herb, and spice notes.  Enough tannin to stand up to food, but soft and generous.  Great wine for lamb or a beef tenderloin!

"Full, bright medium ruby. Pretty but restrained aromas of plum, redcurrant, pomegranate, iron and milk chocolate struck me as Pomerol-like. Suave and sweet, showing a chocolatey ripeness without going over the top. Distinctly fine-grained in texture. Finishes with broad, serious, sweet tannins that coat the front teeth. An excellent merlot-based wine."International Wine Cellar 92 points

Hedges Syrah DLD Red Mountain 2010 Product #26384 (In Stock)
Hedges Syrah DLD Red Mountain 2010 Hedges Syrah DLD Red Mountain 2010

A terrific Washington Syrah that marries New World fruit with Old World class.  Tom Hedges and Anne-Marie Liégeois met and married in her native Champagne before moving back to Tom's home in Washington and starting their winery in 1986.  This wine, from the top Red Mountain AVA, is 100% Syrah aged for 14 months in 65% new oak and the rest used barrels, including French, American, and Hungarian wood.  It's intensely perfumed and big in the mouth with notes of dried herb, bacon, cigar, black licorice, and black fruit.  Notes of smoke, anise, white pepper and sage emerge on the long, powerful, finish.  It should develop well for another decade or so.

Efeste Final Final Columbia Valley 2009 Product #26434 (In Stock)
Efeste Final Final Columbia Valley 2009 Efeste Final Final Columbia Valley 2009

Efeste keeps turning out fascinating, delicious, and wonderfully food-friendly wines from their vineyards in Washington's Columbia Valley.  Final Final is one of the few blended wines they make, a marriage of Cabernet Sauvignon (56%), Syrah (42%), and Mouvedre (2%).  Cab provides the backbone of the wine, delivering structure, power, and black currant fruit.  The Syrah adds juicy black fruits and a touch of spice.  Even this tiny bit of Mouvedre delivers more spice and fantastic earthy note.  At only 13.3% ABV, this is fresh and bright as well as rich and deep.  Fantastic steak and grilled meat wine!

"Very firm and chewy, this red features tannins swarming around its pure currant and fresh berry flavors, finishing with refinement. Needs time."Wine Spectator 90 points

Baer Ursa Columbia Valley Red 2009 Product #25937 (In Stock)
Baer Ursa Columbia Valley Red 2009 Baer Ursa Columbia Valley Red 2009

We never got to taste the 95 point, WS Top 100 #6, 2008 Ursa but it’s hard to believe it was much better than the 2009!  Where the 2008 was mainly Merlot, in 2009 Cabernet Franc excelled in Baer’s Stillwater Creek Vineyard plots, so winemaker Erica Orr went with that as the wine’s core.  About a third of the wine  is Merlot with 10% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec for spine and depth.

The result is a wine that evokes warm-vintage Pomerol in terms of concentration and elegance but with a big burst of Washington fruit.  The aromas show cherry and plum fruit accented by fresh herbs – thyme and marjoram – black olive, and toast notes.  The texture is plush and silky with fine density of black cherry, blackberry and plum and dashes of black licorice and bitter cocoa.  The tannins are dense but ripe, meaning you can enjoy this now with food and a decant or let it grow in cellar for 5-8 years.  A “wow wine” in the best way.

"(44% cabernet franc, 38% merlot and 9% each cabernet sauvignon and malbec): Good deep, bright ruby-red. Explosive aromas of black raspberry, mocha, smoke and tobacco. Sweet, seamless and shapely, with thoroughly ripe, complex flavors of plum, currant, leather and mocha. In a powerful style but not overly sweet. Finishes with lively blueberry and boysenberry fruit and building tannins. This lovely blend avoids the liqueur-like quality shown by many 2009 reds."International Wine Cellar 93 points

"Firm in texture, this elegant wine has a lithe core of black cherry, raspberry and floral flavors that extend into the long and inviting finish. Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2014 through 2019. 981 cases made."Wine Spectator 92 points
