Ken Wright Pinot Noir Shea Vyd 2011 375ml Product #26569 (In Stock)
Ken Wright Pinot Noir Shea Vyd 2011 375ml Ken Wright Pinot Noir Shea Vyd 2011 375ml

Wine Advocate has suggested that Shea is the Willamette Valley’s one potential “superstar” vineyard and Ken makes the benchmark wine from this famous site.  Ken uses fruit from three different blocks in the vineyard, two planted to Dijon 114 and one to Dijon 777 clones. Shea Vineyard gives black/red fruit - especially blueberry - but with more spice and earth than other Yamhill-Carlton wines.  Always a fine marriage of ripe fruit and juicy, fresh, texture, this usually wants a few years in cellar to show its best. Ken pretty much made the reputation of this vineyard, and it's always one of his most powerful, concentrated, wines.

Guillon Gevrey-Chambertin Pere Galland 2010 Product #26485 (In Stock)
Guillon Gevrey-Chambertin Pere Galland 2010 Guillon Gevrey-Chambertin Pere Galland 2010

Jean Michel makes several different Gevrey village cuvves, but this one – named for the man who helped Jean Michel learn to make wine – really grabbed us in 2010.  Screams “Gevrey” with its earthy red fruit and note of dusty iron ore but still soft and open enough to give early pleasure.  Excellent value.

"In contrast to the relatively expressive noses of the prior three wines, this is much more serious with brooding aromas of earth, wild red berries and a whiff of humus. There is excellent energy to the detailed and lightly mineral-suffused flavors that possess good ripeness to the structural elements where the finish again displays a wonderful sense of tension and energy."Allen Meadows 88-91 points

Guillon Nuits St George Les Chaillots 2010 Product #26487 (In Stock)
Guillon Nuits St George Les Chaillots 2010 Guillon Nuits St George Les Chaillots 2010

From Jean Michel’s only vineyard in Nuits, this fine Village red seems better than many 1er Cru wines I taste from this AOC.  My notes from January:  “I like this a lot. High toned and juicy with refreshing acid and juicy fruit. Bright and energetic. Love the cherry fruit.”

"A discreet application of wood sets off pungently earthy and quite ripe aromas of primarily red pinot and blue berry that give way to rich, suave and delicious medium weight flavors that are shaped by phenolically ripe and firm tannins before culminating in a sappy, balanced and vibrant finish. This is very Nuits in character and not especially elegant but the overall impression is of a villages that delivers excellent quality in an ageworthy package."Allen Meadows 89-91 points

Guillon Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru La Riotte 2010 Product #26482 (In Stock)
Guillon Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru La Riotte 2010 Guillon Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru La Riotte 2010

Always one of the most seductive and beautiful wines at Domaine Guillon, the 2010 La Riotte exemplifies what I love about 2010 – deeply ripe but also transparent and oh so elegant.  Lovely.

"A cool, pure and extremely pretty nose of both red and black cherry that is nuanced by soft iron-inflected earth aromas. There is fine concentration and real verve to the beautifully well-balanced flavors that possess impressive depth and length. A moderately structured Morey 1er of refinement. Sweet Spot Outstanding.”Allen Meadows 90-93 points

Brovia Barolo "Garblet Sue" 2008 Product #26531 (In Stock)
Brovia Barolo Brovia Barolo

Garblet Sue is the name of a small slice of the famous Bricco Fiasco vineyard in Castiglione.  It always gives classically structured Barolo with firm tannins, but this 2008 adds more roundness and fruit than you normally find here.  Still quite tight, but it's going to be a stunner!

“Brovia’s 2008 Barolo Garblet Sue’ bursts from the glass with a heady array of black fruit, smoke, incense and licorice. The Garblet Sue’, from the Bricco Fiasco vineyard in Castiglione, is usually a much more linear, tense Barolo, but in 2008 the wine has gorgeous inner perfume allied to a level of pure juiciness that rounds out some of the rough edges that are at times present in this bottling. A huge finish laced with iron, asphalt and crushed rocks rounds things out in style. This is a super-classic Barolo from Brovia. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2040.”Wine Advocate 96 points

Guillon Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Petit Chapelle 2010 Product #26483 (In Stock)
Guillon Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Petit Chapelle 2010 Guillon Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Petit Chapelle 2010

From 50 year-old vines in an outstanding 1er Cru vineyard that always (at least with Jean Michel) teeters on Grand Cru quality in part because it’s farmed and made just like the Grand Cru.  My notes from January: “Magnificent. Silky and elegant and packed with fruit. Violets and blackberry and supple if massive tannin. Slate and smoked mineral linger on.”

"A very subtle application of wood does not interfere with the transparency of the cool, pure and elegant black cherry liqueur aromas. There is equally good transparency to the rich and beautifully detailed medium-bodied flavors that possess truly lovely vibrancy on the ripe, racy and ultra-pure finish. This velvet-texture beauty is worth a long look. Sweet Spot Outstanding."Allen Meadows 91-93 points

Vieux Telegraphe Chateauneuf du Pape La Crau Rouge 2010 Product #26559 (In Stock)
Vieux Telegraphe Chateauneuf du Pape La Crau Rouge 2010 Vieux Telegraphe Chateauneuf du Pape La Crau Rouge 2010

Quite possibly the best vintage ever at this famous Chateauneuf estate.

"This estate is somewhat unusual in that it has 135 acres of contiguous parcels in the famous La Crau sector of Chateauneuf du Pape. It has one of the most precocious terroirs in the appellation, and is often among the first estate’s to harvest because of La Crau’s microclimate. Performing considerably better than it did prior to bottling, the 2010 Vieux Telegraphe Chateauneuf du Pape is one of the all-time great Vieux Telegraphes I have tasted in the last 3+ decades. I believe it is even superior to the 2007, which I had several weeks ago. The 2010 boasts a dense purple color along with a sumptuous bouquet of spring flowers, boysenberries, black cherries, black currants, nori (the sushi seaweed wrapper), black olives, licorice and pepper. This full-bodied, meaty, thick, juicy effort possesses a boatload of tannin, but it also has incredible concentration. More massive than I remember from last year, it has put on considerable weight and intensity. Forget it for 3-4 years, and drink it over the following 25-30 years. Kudos to Daniel and Frederic Brunier!"Wine Advocate 97 points

"Coated with unctuous linzer torte, warm plum sauce and pure cassis fruit flavors, while notes of maduro tobacco, mint, green fig and toasted anise flitter throughout. This is lush and dense, but well-harnessed through the finish, with a mouthwatering roasted apple wood note and lingering fresh acidity. Best from 2014 through 2030." Wine Spectator 96 points
