Bedouet Clos Des Grands Primos Muscadet Sevre Et Maine 2014 Product #29638 (In Stock)
Bedouet Clos Des Grands Primos Muscadet Sevre Et Maine 2014 Bedouet Clos Des Grands Primos Muscadet Sevre Et Maine 2014

Having converted his Clos des Grand Primos vineyard to certified organic farming, Michel Bedouet is delivering on Muscadet’s potential.  The vineyard is a rocky mess of granite, schist and gneiss - no fun to farm, but wonderful for Muscadet's Melon de Bourgogne grape.  The 2014 delivers all the saline minerality and chiseled cut you'd expect from fine Muscade, but also a generous roundness to the texture and a plenty of ripe apple and tangy lemon-lime fruit. You’ll taste the benefits of extended aging on the lees – spent yeast cells left after fermentation – in the wine’s wet stone and chalk minerality, but love how the fresh fruit holds center stage and pumps on through a long finish of lemon, apple, lime zest and fresh thyme.  Sure, it’s a great wine for shellfish, but you’ll love it with almost any summertime dish or simply all on its own.

Lopez De Haro Rioja Crianza 2010 Product #29747 (In Stock)
Lopez De Haro Rioja Crianza 2010 Lopez De Haro Rioja Crianza 2010

The 2008 was very nice, but this 2010 takes a clear step up in complexity and satisfaction.

"The 2010 Hacienda Lopez de Haro Crianza feels quite classical in its style, lightly-colored, with clean red spicy fruit, a touch of leather and a polished, soft palate that makes it very pleasant and easy to drink. At this price level this wine is a steal! Drink 2014-2018."Wine Advocate 91 points

Siegel Cabernet Sauvignon Uber Cuvee 2014 Product #29809 (In Stock)
Siegel Cabernet Sauvignon Uber Cuvee 2014 Siegel Cabernet Sauvignon Uber Cuvee 2014

Here's an attention grabbing Cabernet Sauvignon that reminds us why Chile has unbelievable potential to deliver great Bordeaux-varietal values. It's a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon for blackcurrant fruit and structure and 15% lush Syrah for meaty undertones and supple richness.  Ripe black plum, currant, and blackberry fruit hold center stage with accents of dark chocolate and a touch of oak spice (from just 8 weeks in barrel).  The texture is soft and velvety from front to back, with a nice does of firm, grippy, tannin for support at the end.  A great all-purpose Cabernet for cookouts, fancy foods, and casual sipping.

"Opaque ruby. Heady, spice-accented cherry and dark berry scents show good clarity and gentle smokiness. Sappy and seamless on the palate, offering bitter cherry and cassis flavors that become sweeter with air. Shows very good energy and lift on the finish, which is firmed by supple, slow-building tannins."  Vinous 90 points

Steininger Gruner Veltliner Grunschnabel 2014 Product #29781 (In Stock)
Steininger Gruner Veltliner Grunschnabel 2014 Steininger Gruner Veltliner Grunschnabel 2014

The Steininger family call this wine “Grünschnabel” – literally a young duck (a “green beak”) but better understood as “whipper-snapper” or “newbie”  - because it’s the first wine bottled and released each year, just in time for summer refreshment.  Grown in sites dotted across Kaptal – perhaps Austria’s best Grüner Veltliner region – fermented and raised in cool stainless steel, it’s bottled and released young and fresh.

An early summer release, but one full of late summer aromas and flavors:  ripe peach, spicy pear, and Ginger Gold apple fruit accented by dashes off fresh sugar snap pea, fresh ginger, white pepper, and a tangy/herbal dash of Meyer lemon.  It smells and tastes great, and feels even better on your palate.  The wine enters with a bright, snappy, tingle and then drapes flavor and refreshment over your palate like a pretty summer tablecloth falls across a picnic table.  Then, the lemony acid pops out to scrub everything clean, leaving behind clean, refreshing, notes of snap pea, Granny Smith apple, white pepper, and a hint of wet river stone.  A wine that will cool you off, make you smile, and pull you back for another sip – or thirst-quenching gulp!

Ch La Roche St. Jean Bordeaux Rouge 2012 Product #28504 (In Stock)
Ch La Roche St. Jean Bordeaux Rouge 2012 Ch La Roche St. Jean Bordeaux Rouge 2012

A classic Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and Merlot (40%). This is a soft, fruit filled, take on Bordeaux that fills your mouth with juicy red currant and black berry fruit accented by a touch of spice.  Subtle notes of fresh herb and tobacco keep this anchored in Bordeaux, and there’s just the enough ripe tannin to let it work well at table (but not enough to get in the way of solo sipping).

J. Mourat Fiefs Vendeens Collection Rose 2014 375ml Product #29741 (In Stock)
J. Mourat Fiefs Vendeens Collection Rose 2014 375ml J. Mourat Fiefs Vendeens Collection Rose 2014 375ml

Winemaker Jérémie Mourat shrunk his distinctive Fiefs Vendeens Collection Rosé bottle to half-size here, but it’s still 100% of the flavor (and perhaps even more fun!).  It’s a pretty pale pink in color and jam-packed with flavor. Redolent of ripe cherries, fresh strawberry, sweet watermelon, and just a touch of fresh herb, it starts off bright, spreads out to coat your palate, and finishes clean, fresh, and dry.  The half-bottle is perfect to start off an evening or enjoy at a picnic, and it even fits snugly into an insulated beer koozie (not that YOU’D ever drink straight from the bottle, but perhaps your friends have less restraint.)

Tomaiolo Toscana Rosso 2010 Product #29841 (In Stock)
Tomaiolo Toscana Rosso 2010 Tomaiolo Toscana Rosso 2010

This rich, fleshy, super-Tuscan is both luxurious and a killer value!  It's a blend of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot aged in used French oak. Lots going on aromatically, with a swirl of lavender, black cherry, currant, spice, and oak and even more on the palate where the dark fruit gains complexity from accents of licorice, chocolate and more spice.  Black pepper and oak notes frame the firm, dark-fruited, finish, making this a great match for burgers, steak, or chops today and a fine candidate for further improvement in your cellar.  This outperforms most $20 super-Tuscans in this style.

Feudi Branciforti Dei Bordonaro Nero d'Avola 2013 Product #29515 (In Stock)
Feudi Branciforti Dei Bordonaro Nero d'Avola 2013 Feudi Branciforti Dei Bordonaro Nero d'Avola 2013

If you've enjoyed Firriato's Chiramonte Nero d'Avola over the years, then check out this new project from the hills of Sicily's Trapani region.  It's one of the most pure, delicious, Nero d'Avola wines we've run across in years - especially at this price!  Generous aromas of spiced black fruit and tar lead to juicy, focused, flavors of roasted raspberry, black plum, spice, and warm earth. The dark, rich, flavors stay wonderfully fresh as a note of tangy cherry juice  provides lift and fine, light, tannins give support.  The black fruit, spice, and tar notes linger nicely and draw you back for another sip.  Great with anything roasted or grilled or just to enjoy on its own.

Bodegas Carrau Sauvignon Blanc "Sur Lie" 2014 Product #29942 (In Stock)
Bodegas Carrau Sauvignon Blanc Bodegas Carrau Sauvignon Blanc

This delicious Sauvignon Blanc is from the cool coastal regions of Uruguay where the weather and soil resemble the best white wine production areas of Bordeaux and New Zealand.  Grown and made by a 10th generation family winemaker, the wine is picked and fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks and then given six months of “sur lie” (on the lees) contact to preserve fruit and add depth and complexity.

We’ve carried this for years now, and I’m confident this is the best vintage yet, serving up all the fruit and flavor you’ve come to love with just a touch more class and grace.  Big aromas of freshly zested tangerine and pink grapefruit with a dash of lime open the show.  Then you’ll get a mouthful of luscious ripe Mandarin orange, ruby red grapefruit, tangerine, and a hint of tropical pineapple and papaya.  The time “sur lie” gives this a creamy, rich, almost Chardonnay-like texture in the middle before zesty citrus acidity, bitter tangerine oil, and just the barest hint of spritz clear your palate and make you ready for the next sip.  Easy to drink on its own and great with summer grilled seafood or any Asian dish!

Paso A Paso Tempranillo La Mancha 2012 Product #27782 (In Stock)
Paso A Paso Tempranillo La Mancha 2012 Paso A Paso Tempranillo La Mancha 2012

A straight-ahead, lightly oaked, Tempranillo with good richness, plenty of fruit and spice, and enough acidity to stay fresh.

"Aged for six months in two- and three-year-old French oak. Bright purple. Smoky cherry and dark berries on the fragrant nose. Lush and open-knit, offering appealingly sweet blueberry and boysenberry flavors accented by a hint of cracked pepper. Finishes smooth and spicy, with a hint of tannins and good persistence."International Wine Cellar 89 points

“The 2012 Paso a Paso Tempranillo is even better. Aged six months in neutral French oak, it displays a savory, slightly fleshier style than its organic cousin. A sleeper of the vintage, it reveals a deep plum/purple color along with a sweet bouquet of black currants and jammy black cherries, excellent purity and texture, and a medium-bodied finish. This delicious red is an outrageous value. Drink it over the next 1-2 years.”Wine Advocate 89 points

Kellerei Kaltern Caldaro Schiava 2013 Product #28785 (In Stock)
Kellerei Kaltern Caldaro Schiava 2013 Kellerei Kaltern Caldaro Schiava 2013

Schiava (also called Vernatsch or Trollinger) was actually the region’s most planted grape for many years – with 60% of total vineyard area – until Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay began to supplant it.  That’s too bad, because the light, crisp, and juicy red wines this local grape makes are fun to drink and pair well with a wide range of foods.

Reflecting the cultural and linguistic diversity of Alto Adige, the Schiava grape is called “Kalterersee” in the local dialect of the region around Lake Caldaro.  Grapes for this beauty grew on loamy, limestone gravel soils at 230-450 meters above the Lake and were fermented and aged entirely in tank. A delicious farmhouse red, loaded with red berry fruit, a hint of smoke, and a bright gentle finish.  Kind of like a ripe Chinon (but without the herbal notes), this is delicious with a light chill and shines with everyday foods and cured meats.  Great value, too.

Casa Castillo Monestrell Jumiilla 2011 Product #28881 (In Stock)
Casa Castillo Monestrell Jumiilla 2011 Casa Castillo Monestrell Jumiilla 2011

A fine value in rich, earthy, but nicely focused Monastrell.

"Dark ruby. Sexy, high-pitched aromas of raspberry, cherry, star anise and candied rose, with a touch of orange zest. Smells like a ripe pinot noir. Fleshy and seamless, offering sappy red fruit flavors and a bitter note of rhubarb. Subtle vanilla and licorice notes linger on the smooth, gently tannic finish. Lots of wine for the money."International Wine Cellar 90 points

"Made from 100% Monastrell (Mourvedre), Casa Castillo’s 2011 Monastrell comes from incredibly low yields (16 hectoliters per hectare). It reveals abundant flavor along with a chalky minerality, dense blueberry and blackberry fruit intermixed with a hint of spring flowers, medium body and a supple texture. This is an amazing red wine for such a lowly price."Wine Advocate 89 points

Moulin De Gassac Guilhem Blanc 2013 Product #29312 (In Stock)
Moulin De Gassac Guilhem Blanc 2013 Moulin De Gassac Guilhem Blanc 2013

About 50% Grenache Blanc provides the base for Guilhem Blanc.  While it doesn’t have a lot of flavor on its own, white Grenache provides body and richness to the blend and a hint of something nutty or waxy on the nose and palate, too. Add in 25% Sauvignon Blanc, grown in cooler sites and harvested fairly early to give the wine a dose of fresh citrus fruit, aromas of fresh herb, and – in this warm climate – a touch of ripe peach and apricot.  Then – in part to help save old vines that would otherwise be ripped up – finish with a dose of 25% Terret Blanc.  One of the oldest grape varieties in Languedoc (and, until the 1960s, the most widely planted), Terret has the great virtue of retaining high acidty and lower alcohol even in the hot Sud sun.  Here it gives the wine a lift of freshness and lemony acidity plus a subtle note of fresh flowers.  The final blend is medium-bodied, mouthwatering, and full of peach, apricot, lemon, and floral aromas and flavors.  Delicious stuff and a great match for baked fish or soft cheese.
