Alain De La Treille Sauvignon Blanc Touraine 2015 Product #31003 (In Stock)
Alain De La Treille Sauvignon Blanc Touraine 2015 Alain De La Treille Sauvignon Blanc Touraine 2015

Touraine marks the dividing line between the Loire Valley's Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc regions (Chinon, Vouvray, etc.) to the west and the greatest Sauvignon vineyards (Sancerre, Pouilly Fume) to the east. Prone to harshness and too much green herb, really fine Touraine Sauvignons hint at Sancerre minerality with a big more ripe, rich, fruit.  This is a very good one, fleshy and round with peach, green melon, and lemon fruit and just a bare hint of fresh cut grass. Great with seafood, salads, and reading a book by the pool.

Aleria Syrah XX 270 Corsica 2013 Product #30490 (In Stock)
Aleria Syrah XX 270 Corsica 2013 Aleria Syrah XX 270 Corsica 2013

Ripe, pure, sophisticated.

"Made from a block of Syrah vines that are planted on steep, granite soils (which is unique as this region is mostly limestone) facing the Mediterranean Sea, the 2013 Corse XX270 sports an inky purple color to go with incredible granite influence in its liquid rock, blackberry, raspberry, floral and peppery bouquet. Medium to full-bodied, with incredible purity, this is a seriously elegant, classically styled Syrah to drink over the coming decade."Wine Advocate 93 points

Alonso Del Yerro Ribera Del Duero 2011 Product #30625 (In Stock)
Alonso Del Yerro Ribera Del Duero 2011 Alonso Del Yerro Ribera Del Duero 2011

Rich and frankly flashy but with enough structure to pair up with steak or lamb nicely.

"Complex scents of ripe blackberry, licorice, potpourri and smoky minerals. Sweet and seamless in the mouth, offering intense black and blue fruit and floral pastille flavors that gain vivacity with air. Finishes very long and smoky, with smooth tannins and lingering blue fruit notes."  Vinous 91 points

"The 2011 Crianza is a selection of Tempranillo grapes fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for 10-15 months in a combination of new (15%) and used French oak barrels. It starts off fairly reduced, so it would benefit from energetic decanting. When it opens up, it feels marginally riper than the 2010, with notes of prunes, black cherries, tar and graphite, the oak well integrated with the fruit. The palate is full-bodied, with abundant, dusty tannins and moderate acidity. Drink now-2019."Wine Advocate 91 points

Alvear Solera Cream Pedro Ximenez Montilla Moriles 500ml Product #30519 (In Stock)
Alvear Solera Cream Pedro Ximenez Montilla Moriles 500ml Alvear Solera Cream Pedro Ximenez Montilla Moriles 500ml

A fine Oloroso Sherry sweetened by the addition of sweet Pedro Ximenez. Less sweet than some, and delicious with chocolate.

"Offers a dense amber color, creamy caramelized fruits, honeysuckle and roasted nuts, is fleshy and succulent with considerable residual sugar hitting the palate. This cuvée was created for the British and it used to be a hugely successful product there. Alvear was founded in 1729 and remains under the control of the same family. They own 307 acres of vineyards in the Montilla-Moriles appellation. Anyone who visits the area recognizes the incredible white soils, which are dominated by chalk/limestone and the key to the great acids these products possess."Wine Advocate 92 points

Anton Bauer Gruner Veltliner Gmork 2014 Product #29889 (In Stock)
Anton Bauer Gruner Veltliner Gmork 2014 Anton Bauer Gruner Veltliner Gmork 2014

The Gmörk vineyard lies on loess and gravel soils in Austria’s excellent Wagram region.  There’s plenty of sunny warmth in this South-facing site, so the fruit ripens beautifully.  But the nearby Danube river channels cool air down from the Northwest, slowing the growing cycle and letting the grapes develop extra flavor and aroma while retaining fine freshness and acidity.  Anton has all the grapes harvested by hand at the peak of ripeness, even taking on the extra cost of making multiple passes through the vineyard when necessary.  It’s hard work and the kind of expense you rarely see in a Grüner intended to sell for under $20.

2014 was a tough vintage in most of Austria, but with careful work in the vineyard and winery, the folks at Anton Bauer were able to produce a vibrant, fresh Gruner for us to enjoy all fall long. Aromas of pear, green peach, and wet stone invite you to take a sip and enjoy the juicy acidity and hint of Gruner's signature white pepper on the finish.

"A subtle nose of lemon leads to a chorus of zesty, citrusy freshness: rind of lemon, grapefruit and mandarin make for a streamlined, concentrated and incredibly refreshing palate with a tangy moreishness. The purity of this wine shines. This is lovely now but will develop through 2020."Wine Enthusiast 91 points

A great introduction to the joys (and stellar value) of Riesling from Austria.  From a stony vineyard, this ultra pure and clean Riesling delivers intense aromas and flavors of ripe peach, lime zest, and fresh apricot with stony mineral notes and brisk, mouth-cleansing, acidity.  A touch of spice on the juicy finish makes this a great choice for Thanksgiving - but once you've tried this bright but easy-drinking white, you'll find yourself reaching for it again and again.

Txakoli is a fresh, zippy style of wine from Spain’s Basque country.  Like Vinho Verde, it’s just slightly fizzy, but not fully sparkling.  But unlike its Portuguese cousin, it’s bone dry, bracingly tart, and very mineral, with aromas of lime skin and something fresh and salty reminiscent of the beach.  This great value Txakoli is a natural match for fresh seafood - or try it with sushi!

Arterberry Maresh Pinot Noir Dundee Hills 2014 Product #31088 (In Stock)
Arterberry Maresh Pinot Noir Dundee Hills 2014 Arterberry Maresh Pinot Noir Dundee Hills 2014

6 cases available.  Jim Maresh’s focus is on single vineyard Pinot Noir, so in most years, he sells off any barrels or lots that don’t make it into the final single vineyard cuvee.  In excellent years, though, that wine is just too good to part with, so he supplements it with fruit from neighbors and bottles this wine:  the Dundee Hills cuvee.  You’ll get a great introduction to the Arterberry Maresh style here, with fine concentration and excellent purity – in a wine that is, as Wine Advocate says, “probably the bargain of the vintage."

"The 2014 Pinot Noir Dundee Hills is a blend of Maresh, Juliard, Weber, Gehrts and Folie Hill vineyards. It has a fresh and vibrant bouquet with red cherry and wild strawberry fruit, touches of blood orange with fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin - a mixture here of red and black fruit, meaty in style with a Pommard-like finish that lingers in the mouth. For $25, it's probably the bargain of the vintage."Wine Advocate 90 points

Azienda Agricola 499 Freisa Langhe 2013 Product #30482 (In Stock)
Azienda Agricola 499 Freisa Langhe 2013 Azienda Agricola 499 Freisa Langhe 2013

Let's start with the winery name - it comes from the altitude of the winery at 499 meters above sea level near the Piemonte village of Camo.  Then, the mission:  to make excellent, sit-specific, wines from under-appreciated Piemonte grapes:  Moscato (for whites) and Freisa (for sort of reds).  Not surprisingly, and despite the altitude, this is still an under-the-radar winery!

But, if the offbeat appeals to you and you already enjoy Northern Italy's light, but flavorful, reds like Schiava and Grignolino, then this delicious Freisa is for you.  Translucent cherry red in the glass, it bursts with exotic scents of tangy cherry, ripe strawberry, and crushed red flowers.  All that and more carries on to the vibrant, mouthwatering, palate with firm tannins giving grip and cherry/floral extract providing  mouthwatering lift.  Just 5 barrels made, and all are perfect with salami, cheese, and grilled veggies.

Baracchi O'Lillo Toscana 2014 Product #30356 (In Stock)
Baracchi O'Lillo Toscana 2014 Baracchi O'Lillo Toscana 2014

Customers like you have been enjoying this luscious Super Tuscan blend from vineyards near Cortona for years, and the 2014 edition is another winner.  Fruit comes from three different vineyards:  San Martino at 300 meters (where the winery is located), Gabbiano (closer to  Montepulciano and excellent for Syrah and Cabernet), and Montanare (where Sangiovese and Merlot grow on hills fought over by Romans and Carthaginians during the Punic Wars).  The grapes are hand harvested and given gentle fermentations in neutral oak vats before aging in tank and bottling early to preserve fresh fruit and vibrant acids.

James Suckling’s 93 point review seems spot on to us, although we’d note that this really delicious now for the pure primary fruit and touch of licorice and spice flavors.  If you’re planning lamb or pork roast for dinner anytime soon – or even a rich pasta and red sauce dish – this will sing at table.

"Lots of blackcurrants, grapes and lemon zest character. Full body, firm and silky tannins and a long and flavorful finish. It's firm and very tight. Compact structure. Delicious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Sangiovese. Better in 2018. "  James Suckling 93 points

Barrique Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma 2014 Product #30985 (In Stock)
Barrique Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma 2014 Barrique Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma 2014

From Sonoma's famous Dry Creek Valley and Knights Valley regions, this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon delivers plenty of rich, ripe, intensity in a (for California) nicely medium-bodied, 13.8% package. Vibrant aromas of plum, blackberry, blackcurrant and smoke lead to a firm, fine-grained, palate of rich fruit, spice and more.  Silky through the middle and then firm and chalky on the finish, this is a great burger or steak Cab that leaves cassis, coffee and briary black fruit lingering.   Nice value.

Bedouet Clos Des Grands Primos Muscadet Sevre Et Maine 2015 Product #30753 (In Stock)
Bedouet Clos Des Grands Primos Muscadet Sevre Et Maine 2015 Bedouet Clos Des Grands Primos Muscadet Sevre Et Maine 2015

Having converted his Clos des Grand Primos vineyard to certified organic farming, Michel Bedouet is delivering on Muscadet’s potential.  The vineyard is a rocky mess of granite, schist and gneiss - no fun to farm, but wonderful for Muscadet's Melon de Bourgogne grape.  The 2015 delivers all the saline minerality and chiseled cut you'd expect from fine Muscade, but also a generous roundness to the texture and a plenty of ripe apple and tangy lemon-lime fruit. You’ll taste the benefits of extended aging on the lees – spent yeast cells left after fermentation – in the wine’s wet stone and chalk minerality, but love how the fresh fruit holds center stage and pumps on through a long finish of lemon, apple, lime zest and fresh thyme.  Sure, it’s a great wine for shellfish, but you’ll love it with almost any summertime dish or simply all on its own.

Bench Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2014 Product #30986 (In Stock)
Bench Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2014 Bench Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2014

This is one of those "whole lot of wine for the money" bottlings - specifically, a wine that plays in the $30+ Pinot range in terms of quality and character for a lot less.  Like all the best California Pinot Noirs, this comes from cool sites - mostly from Sagiacomo Amaral Ranch just north of San Pablo bay plus a little big of Russian River fruit for depth and structure.  Harvested completely ripe (at just 13.8% abv) and then allowed to rest 11 months in French oak (30% new) for roundness, smoothness, and a touch of spice.

The Russian River component - while small - shows up clearly in this fresh Pinot Noir's bright cherry and red berry fruit on the nose and palate.  A handful of crushed flower blossoms plus dashes of earthy sweet spice give even more complexity to the rich texture and long, lingering, finish.  A satisfying match for salmon, poultry or pork dishes and definitely delicious to just enjoy on its own.

The wine is crisp and clean with an excellent delivery of aromas including pear, peach, citrus and tropical fruit. How does a $40 Willamette Pinot that earned a fine 91 point rating in 2012 end up available too you from half-off?  It’s a long story, but the conclusion is simple:  this is the Oregon Pinot Noir buying opportunity of the year and one of the best Pinot deals we’ve brought you ever!  From a tiny, 2 acre, vineyard at 800 feet elevation in Oregon’s Chehalem Mountain region, this blends a range of Pinot clones all grown on volcanic Jory soils.

It's a great example of the elegant, pure, and very refreshing wines that represent the best of Oregon’s 2013 harvest.  You'll find a lovely perfume of crushed raspberry, fresh strawberry, and red pie cherry fruit with hints of lavender and spice.  Pure, vibrant, and silky on the palate, the ripe and tangy cherry/berry fruit takes center stage with subtle accents of spice and smoked stone.  The smoky notes are a hallmark of Willamette Valley's volcanic Jory soils and gain depth and intensity with time in the glass.  The perfumed fruit and smoke finish sales on over juicy acids and fine tannins.  Light (12.8% abv) and fresh enough to just enjoy on its own but with enough structure to sing with salmon and fish, mushrooms or white meats from the grill.

Bishops Peak Chardonnay Central Coast 2014 Product #29881 (In Stock)
Bishops Peak Chardonnay Central Coast 2014 Bishops Peak Chardonnay Central Coast 2014

As always, the folks at Talley do a fine job with their "no oak" Bishop's Peak program. More aromatic than many inexpensive Chardonnays, this features aromas of ripe golden apples and pears.  On the palate, no oak and no malolactic fermentation keep it fresh and crisp, with flavors of more tart green apples and a little citrus zest.  A great everyday Chardonnay for light poultry dishes or sipping before a meal.

"Fresh pear and tangerine scents are complemented by ginger and honey. Smooth and broad on entry, then tighter in the mid-palate, offering sappy orchard and citrus fruit flavors and a hint of melon. Emphatically fruity Chardonnay with very good closing breadth and cling."  Vinous (Reynolds) 90 points
