Abanico Hazana Rioja Vinas Viejas 2014 Product #31274 (In Stock)
Abanico Hazana Rioja Vinas Viejas 2014 Abanico Hazana Rioja Vinas Viejas 2014

Wine Advocate sums this one up nicely.  A crazy good bargain.

"The 2014 Hazana Vinas Viejas is simply one of the greatest values in Rioja that money can buy. A blend of 85% Tempranillo and 15% Graciano, this collaboration between importer Eric Solomon and the owner and winemaker has produced an absolutely amazing Rioja from 45- to 70-year-old unirrigated, head-pruned vines. Loads of lead pencil shavings, black and red currants, licorice and tobacco leaf all jump from the glass of this dense, ruby/purple wine. Soft tannins, medium to full body and fabulous intensity, make for a sensational Rioja to drink over the next 5-7 years."Wine Advocate 92 points

Accornero Freisa La Bernardina 2015 Product #31626 (In Stock)
Accornero Freisa La Bernardina 2015 Accornero Freisa La Bernardina 2015

As Antonio Galloni says, Accronero is "one of Piemonte's hidden gems" and this may be their most under-the-radar  wines.  Freisa can be hard and tannic (which is why much of ends up pink and/or sweet and/or fizzy).  Here as a dry red with just a prickle of fizz, it's gorgeous. Wild aromatics of crushed flowers and strawberries lead to flavors of fresh raspberry, strawberry, and berry blossom.  Dry and floral on the finish, it's a great pizza and salami red!

Not shy, this ripe and fruit filled Barbera! Enjoy with rich pasta sauces or stews.

"Black cherry, smoke, mocha, lavender, licorice, menthol and dark spices are some of the scents that emerge from Accornero's 2013 Barbera del Monferrato Giulin. This is another wine that boasts notable depth and resonance yet does so while maintaining remarkable balance. Alain Jaume Cotes du Rhone Haut de Brun 2014 Product #31713 (In Stock)
Alain Jaume Cotes du Rhone Haut de Brun 2014 Alain Jaume Cotes du Rhone Haut de Brun 2014

A lusty blend of Grenache plus 30% Syrah and 10% Cinsault, this is loaded with Rhone-y notes of dark red berries, pepper, licorice, and Provencal herb.  Round and full on the palate, there's enough structure on the back to handle a big bowl of stew.

"BEST BUY The color is purple-tinged garnet. The aromatic range of the nose goes from fresh berries (wild raspberry, blackcurrant, blackberry) to spices. The palate is big and full-flavoured, with silky-smooth tannins and aromas of the fruit already mentioned. The finish introduces touches of liquorice and pepper. A Cotes du Rhone with great complexity for everyday drinking."Wine Enthusiast 90 points

Alessandro Veglio Dolcetto d'Alba 2015 Alessandro Veglio Dolcetto d'Alba 2015

Look, if you don't like this then perhaps Dolcetto just isn't your thing.  But we think you'll love the aromas and flavors of ripe blackberry and plum fruit, the feeling and flavors of rich chocolate, and the savory lift of licorice root and bitter almond.  The tannins are light (especially for Dolcetto) and the finish long and lush with chocolate and dark fruit coating your palate.  Barolo winemaker Alessandro Veglio says this may be the best wine he's ever made.  It's certainly outstanding and very, very, delicious.

Alois Lageder Pinot Grigio Dolomite 2015 Alois Lageder Pinot Grigio Dolomite 2015

From the high, cool, vineyards of Italy's Dolimite Mountains, this is the kind of crisp but rich Pinot Grigio you'll love sipping or pairing with seafood.  Apricot, peach and green pear fruit get complexity from a dusting if crushed stone minerality.  The texture is rich and round despite the low 12.5% alcohol and the finish is crisp, clean, and refreshing with salty stone and apricot flavors lingering.

Alonso Del Yerro Ribera Del Duero 2011 Product #30625 (In Stock)
Alonso Del Yerro Ribera Del Duero 2011 Alonso Del Yerro Ribera Del Duero 2011

Rich and frankly flashy but with enough structure to pair up with steak or lamb nicely.

"Complex scents of ripe blackberry, licorice, potpourri and smoky minerals. Sweet and seamless in the mouth, offering intense black and blue fruit and floral pastille flavors that gain vivacity with air. Finishes very long and smoky, with smooth tannins and lingering blue fruit notes."  Vinous 91 points

"The 2011 Crianza is a selection of Tempranillo grapes fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for 10-15 months in a combination of new (15%) and used French oak barrels. It starts off fairly reduced, so it would benefit from energetic decanting. When it opens up, it feels marginally riper than the 2010, with notes of prunes, black cherries, tar and graphite, the oak well integrated with the fruit. The palate is full-bodied, with abundant, dusty tannins and moderate acidity. Drink now-2019."Wine Advocate 91 points

Altosur - "High in the South" - wines are grown at 1,200 meters and higher elevations, giving them a fine purity and finesse to go with the bold Mendoza fruit. From estate grown fruit and with a few months barrel aging, this is loaded with juicy currant and blackberry fruit framed by touches of chocolate and crushed herb.  Plenty of heft - no one will call this "light" - but no heaviness in a tasty, drink now and with anything, Cabernet Sauvignon value.

Super rich, dense, and sticky, this Pedro Ximenez Sherry from a solera started in 1927 delivers wildly complex aromas and flavors. Try it with maple ice cream or savory cheese.

"The NV Pedro Ximenez Solera 1927 is non-vintage, but does have some 1927 material in it. This is totally dark brown/amber with notes of figs, toffee, caramel syrup, molasses and coffee. It is dense, super sweet, intense, rich and an amazingly, unctuously textured, thick beverage to consume slowly and introspectively after a meal. They say the best way to gague the quality of a Barolo winemaker is to taste their Dolcetto - because it's both the least expensive and hardens wine to make in any cellar.  Oberto's Dolcetto shows why we admire this fine, small, estate so much.  Aromas of candied raspberry, cherry, strawberry and lavender flow onto a sweetly fruited palate where more lavender and some bitter chocolate add extra interest.  Finishes just chewy enough to pair with a traditional platter of cured meats and a fine burger red, too!

Yes, it's dead young Nebbiolo and never saw a barrel.  But this rich, velvety, and fruit-filled "baby Barolo" is wildly delicious and fun to drink right now.  Roses, tar and cherry aromas lead to broad, rich, and very ripe red cherry, strawberry, crushed flower and earthy spice flavors.  Plenty of tannin, but it's sweet and supple and melts with food.  From young (8-10 year-old) vines in La Mora, this is a compelling introduction to Italy's greatest grape and will delight new explorers and hard-core Barolo fans alike.

Anton Bauer Gruner Veltliner Eiswein 2013 375ml Product #31238 (In Stock)
Anton Bauer Gruner Veltliner Eiswein 2013 375ml Anton Bauer Gruner Veltliner Eiswein 2013 375ml

One bitterly cold morning in January 2014, Anton Bauer and his team got up before dawn and harvested the last Grüner Veltliner berries of the 2013 growing season.  The frozen berries were rushed to the winery and immediately pressed, releasing tiny amounts of super-sugar-laden juicy and leaving the still solid water behind.  The thick, viscous, juice went into tank where it slowly fermented until the yeast could do no more, bringing the wine to 12.5% alcohol and leaving a stunning amount of rich sweetness and bracing acidity behind.

Despite the 2014 harvest date, this is technically a 2013 vintage wine.  But whatever you call it, the wine is brilliant.  Rich and creamy with layers of apricot, peach and white fruit aromas and flavors, there's a touch of honey and caramel for depth and bracing, tangy, acidity for freshness.  Sits on your palate for minutes after each sip, this is a rare treat you won't want to miss.

Anton Bauer Gruner Veltliner Gmork 2015 Product #31235 (In Stock)
Anton Bauer Gruner Veltliner Gmork 2015 Anton Bauer Gruner Veltliner Gmork 2015

As the Post says, Austria's 2015s “are among the best white wines in the world in terms of value and quality, and they’re enjoying the best vintage in recent memory.”   Certainly, this is the best vintage of this stunning value single-vineyard Gruner to date!  There’s a refreshing salty brininess to the aromas here, along with fresh pear and meyer lemon. On the palate there’s a pleasing weightiness from that extra notch of ripeness 2015’s near perfect conditions brought that you wouldn’t expect from all those brisk, fresh aromas. That pear aroma takes on a lovely ripeness, and there’s a delicious ripe apple flavor as well, like biting into a fresh Honeycrisp. A refreshing, versatile white.

“Notes of crisp green pear and crunchy red apple are very appetizing, the palate is fresh and echoes these flavors and edges them with some spice and alcoholic heat, but also has a drive and energy of its own. Friendly and very moreish.”Wine Enthusiast 90 points

A fun party Malbec that's ready to enjoy with a crowd but has enough class for a nice dinner, too.  Big fruit-filled aromas of dark berry and rich chocolate lead to a ripe, plummy, palate of crushed blackberry, licorice, and a touch of spice from old French oak.  Juicy, clean, and just lightly tanninc on the finish where ripe berry and chocolate flavors linger nicely.  A winner!

Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir Santa Barbara 2015 Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir Santa Barbara 2015

The small but very nice 2015 vintage gave us ripe but nicely fresh Pinot's from this part of California, and this is a great example.  Pretty plum and wild strawberry aromas add notes of spice and chocolate with air.  The aromas carry over to the nicely rich but still elegant Pinot that finishes silky and smooth.  Will take a light chill if you like and very fine value.

Baracchi O'Lillo Toscana 2014 Product #30356 (In Stock)
Baracchi O'Lillo Toscana 2014 Baracchi O'Lillo Toscana 2014

Customers like you have been enjoying this luscious Super Tuscan blend from vineyards near Cortona for years, and the 2014 edition is another winner.  Fruit comes from three different vineyards:  San Martino at 300 meters (where the winery is located), Gabbiano (closer to  Montepulciano and excellent for Syrah and Cabernet), and Montanare (where Sangiovese and Merlot grow on hills fought over by Romans and Carthaginians during the Punic Wars).  The grapes are hand harvested and given gentle fermentations in neutral oak vats before aging in tank and bottling early to preserve fresh fruit and vibrant acids.

James Suckling’s 93 point review seems spot on to us, although we’d note that this really delicious now for the pure primary fruit and touch of licorice and spice flavors.  If you’re planning lamb or pork roast for dinner anytime soon – or even a rich pasta and red sauce dish – this will sing at table.

"Lots of blackcurrants, grapes and lemon zest character. Full body, firm and silky tannins and a long and flavorful finish. It's firm and very tight. Compact structure. Delicious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Sangiovese. Better in 2018. "  James Suckling 93 points
