This great value Chardonnay opens with a classic, Burgundian nose - savory, smoky, and a hint of sophisticated oak. Just-ripe fruit peaks out after a swirl or two: golden apple, a bit of pear. On the palate, what stands out the most is what doesn't stand out. All the elements are balanced and of a piece. Ripe orchard fruits, nice, creamy weight, and a clean finish with a hint of a savory, leesy element that makes you want to reach for something to eat.
In keeping with the winery's focus on biodiversity and green agriculture, the wine is barrel fermented in a selection of all French oak barrels of varying ages with 100% wild yeast. Some barrel rolling and lees stirring and limited malolactic fermentation keeps the buttery flavors savory and compelling rather than cloying.
