- Dom La Bouissiere Les Amis De La Bouissiere 2013 Product #29155 (In Stock)
Bouissiere is best known for their powerhouse Gigondas, but the friendly Les Amis has always had a special place in our hearts. The Faravel brothers first created this wine to use the Merlot they had planted near the Rhone River (on soils too rich for more traditional Rhone varietals). The 2013 vintage was very challenging for Grenache and Syrah, but the Merlot (on cool soils with a bit of a breeze from the river) came in beautifully. So, this year's Les Amis is a full 60% Merlot with 34% Syrah and 6% the rare Rhone grape Caladoc, all done in tank.
The aromas are the best ever here, with layers and layers of dark black fruit, warm stones, and crushed herb. The palate is rich and loaded with ripe red and black berry fruits, earthy herb, and plenty of stone-like minerality. There's enough firm tannin and dusty mineral on the mouthwatering finish to make this a fine wine at table, but the juicy fruit that just keeps on pumping out makes it a tempting sipper, too. A fine, distinctive, bargain!
