- Di Lenardo Chardonnay Friuli 2013 Product #28628 (In Stock)
It’s a little surprising that the grape least associated with Friuli – Chardonnay – should deliver one of the most exciting wines in this line-up. But, then, this isn’t “just” Chardonnay. When Massimo Di Lendardo took over his family estate in 1987, he launched a massive replanting effort to increase vine density and focus on the very best clones for his Friuli vineyards. For this wine, that meant the “Chardonnay Musque” clone, a mutation that retains all of Chardonnay’s body and crisp fruit but adds a layer of floral and pit fruit aromatics.
It’s been a winning choice, with Di Lenardo Chardonnay earning 89-91 points from Wine Spectator each year for the past five! And, the review for the 90 point 2012 fits well here: “A stony undertow and well-meshed acidity frames the flavors of yellow apple, apricot, anise, slivered almond and honeycomb in this bright and balanced version. A crowd-pleaser.” This is no-oak, 100% fun, Chardonnay that will sing with a wide range of food or delight while sipping at sunset.
