Dom Thibert Macon Fuisse Bois De La Croix 2012 Product #27100 (In Stock)
Dom Thibert Macon Fuisse Bois De La Croix 2012 Dom Thibert Macon Fuisse Bois De La Croix 2012

One of our best-selling Chardonnays from Burgundy ever is better still in the outstanding (if short) 2012 vintage.  As always, essentially no oak here, but plenty of spicy richness. The aromas and flavors are similar to 2010 and 2008, but the texture and intensity of the 2012 is off the charts.  It’s almost like a cross between a fine Chassagne-Montrachet – mineral, vibrant, cut – and a top Meursault – buttery, nutty, creamy-textured and chalky on the finish.  Certainly it blows away most wines from nearby Pouilly Fuisse with its detail, nuance, and length.  And, for under $20 bucks, it’s hard to find a bottle of Chardonnay from anywhere in the world that can touch it.

Cool but rich aromas of golden apple, fresh butter, grilled nuts, crushed mint, acacia flower and a touch of bright pineapple open the show.  Then a wonderfully rich, almost creamy, mouthful of more golden delicious apple, ripe pear, tangy pineapple, cultured butter, and warm hazelnut gives way to a crisp green apple and chalky, salty, mineral on the mouthwatering finish. With air, a bit of spice and mint come out on the back and in the long, savory, finish.  The texture is extraordinary for a wine at this level, with the perfect ying-yang of rich, almost oily, depth and vibrant acidity and minerality.  A brilliant young Macon that’s already delicious and that will just get better over the next couple of years.

Dom Thibert St Veran Bois De Fee 2010 Product #27103 (In Stock)
Dom Thibert St Veran Bois De Fee 2010 Dom Thibert St Veran Bois De Fee 2010

As Burghound said, “This is excellent” and, at the price, far more excellent still!  From just outside of Pouilly Fuisse, this beauty is rich and deeply flavored, serving up wave after wave of pineapple, apple, and yellow peach fruit framed in mouth-tingling acidity and chalky minerality.  One of the steals of our 2013 Burgundy selections – buy lots.

“Sweet Spot Outstanding. This had recently been racked and sulfur aromas dominated the nose. However there is lovely richness to the round and delicious flavors that are blessed with ample amount of dry extract that impart a seductive texture to the intensely mineral-inflected, dry, linear and solidly persistent finish. This is excellent.”Allen Meadows 89-92 points

Dom Thibert Pouilly Fuisse Vielles Vignes 2011 Product #27101 (In Stock)
Dom Thibert Pouilly Fuisse Vielles Vignes 2011 Dom Thibert Pouilly Fuisse Vielles Vignes 2011

You’ll look long and hard to find Pouilly Fuisse – heck, any white Burgundy! – that’s this rich, deep, and satisfying for so very little money.  Chistophe Thibert makes this wine from different plots of 30+ year-old Chardonnay vines, all farmed organically and to very low yields.  The 2011 is even richer than the 2010, but harvesting early kept this big wine fresh and bright.  Just 8% new oak (which has already integrated since Burghound’s tasting) gives depth and spice.  Hard to resist now but even better from 2016 on.

“Here too a subtle application of oak frames the essence of pear and dried floral scents. There is an utterly beguiling texture to the solidly well-concentrated medium-bodied flavors that exhibit a faint minerality on the impressively persistent finish where the wood treatment resurfaces.”Allen Meadows 89-91 points
