- Steininger Gruner Veltliner Kamptal DAC 2015 Product #31347 (In Stock)
Just another great vintage for this fresh and snappy Gruner, this time with an extra gear of depth from the outstanding 2015 vintage.
"Totally zesty swirls of ripe citrus sweep up green pear and yeast notes as they rise from the glass and flow across the palate. This has verve and liveliness and acts like a tonic: it's light-bodied, balanced, scented refreshment."Wine Enthusiast 90 points
- Steininger Gruner Veltliner Grand Gru 2015 Product #31470 (In Stock)
Karl and Eva Steininger make a range of delicious wines from Austria’s best white grape, and they intend the Grand Grü to be the top of their line. The name is a fun play on words – evoking both the French concept of “Grand Cru” quality and the Steininger’s belief that this is a “Grand” Grüner Veltliner!
Fruit for this wine comes from the Steininger’s best vineyard and is harvested in very late September or October, after all of their and neighbors other grapes intended for dry wines are long picked and crushed. The perfectly ripe fruit ferments in stainless steel and then goes into large Acacia wood casks for malolactic fermentation and aging.
The 2015 is simply the best, richest, most vibrant, release here yet. Pour a glass and you’ll meet generous aromas of creamy ripe pear, peach, and apricot. Take a sip and you’ll find autumn fruits – golden pear and apple – plus lime zest and citrus with a dash of baking spice and hints of classing Grüner white pepper. The texture is creamy and rich with plenty of acidity to keep things fresh and refreshing. The finish is long, mouthwatering, and features a hint of lime, ginger and spice as it lingers. Rich and round enough to handle the full range of Thanksgiving Dinner favorites and clean and juicy enough to keep you coming back for more.
- Steininger Gruner Veltliner Kittmannsberg Reserve 2014 Product #30425 (In Stock)
Is anyone in Austria making better Grüner Veltliner than Karl and Brigitta Steininger right now? I don’t know for sure, but I guarantee that no one is making better Grüner for the money than these rising Kamptal superstars and, for my money, this is the best wine they make.
It serves up wild aromatics of white and stone fruit, exotic spice, white pepper and a hint of caramel. All those notes and more pour out across your palate in a rich wine with fine density and amazing cut, vibrancy, and drive. The finish is wonderfully long, leaving mouthwatering fresh fruits, white pepper, and a touch of lemon zest lingering. A brilliant follow-up to the 92 point 2013!
