Dom Thevenot Le Brun Bourgogne Hautes Cotes De Nuits 2012 Product #28736 (In Stock)
Dom Thevenot Le Brun Bourgogne Hautes Cotes De Nuits 2012 Dom Thevenot Le Brun Bourgogne Hautes Cotes De Nuits 2012

An unusual white Burgundy for the large amount of Pinot Blanc it contains - 80%, with the balance Chardonnay.  This Hautes Cotes de Nuits opens with very fresh, pretty aromas of pear and white blossoms.  On the palate it's racy and taut, with that juicy pear element from the Pinot Blanc coming through even stronger.  Poised and a touch more aromatic than all-Chardonnay white Burgundies, this would be a great match for white fish in a cream sauce.

Dom Mongeard Mugneret Bourgogne Rouge 2011 Product #27687 (In Stock)
Dom Mongeard Mugneret Bourgogne Rouge 2011 Dom Mongeard Mugneret Bourgogne Rouge 2011

From a family-owned estate based in Vosne Romanee comes this very serious Bourgogne Rouge.  Unlike  many estates who style their basic Pinot Noirs to be as friendly and approachable young as possible, this has a bit more structure and aging potential than its humble appellation would lead you to think.

Aromas of dark, ripe cherries, mushrooms, and a bit of baking spice lead to classic flavors of savory red fruits.  No overt oak, but the fruit and acidity is nicely supported.  What's really impressive here are the tannins - a little grippy now, but ripe and mouthwatering.  This will benefit from a little more time in bottle, but can be enjoyed now with a little bit of air.  It's the kind of wine that makes you want old-school French bistro food that is decidedly not diet-friendly - a little chicken liver mousse and a crusty baguette, and you wouldn't even need a main course.

Langlois Pere Et Fils Cassis Nv Product #28099 (In Stock)

The first thing you'll notice about this delicious creme de cassis is its almost neon color, a gorgeous, glass-staining magenta.  Made from super-ripe cassis berries grown on the Langlois estate, this is sweet, rich and lucious, to be sure, but also has an intriguing undercurrent of something leafy and herbal that keeps it from becoming cloying.  If you've never had a real creme de cassis, try adding a few drops to sparkling wine for a Kir Royale you won't forget!

Langlois Pere Et Fils Mure Nv Product #28100 (In Stock)

Wild blackberries harvested from around the city of Nevers in Burgundy make this unctuous liqueur, traditionally drunk with Bourgogne Rouge for a sort of brunette sister to the Kir called a Berrichon.  After the berries are harvested, they are frozen to break down their cell walls, making for more concentrated flavors.  Combining the sweetness of ripe fruit with more earthy, musky aromas than the more common creme de cassis from the same region, this is unusual and delicious.

Dom Michel Sarrazin Rully Sans Nom Blanc 2012 Product #28779 (In Stock)
Dom Michel Sarrazin Rully Sans Nom Blanc 2012 Dom Michel Sarrazin Rully Sans Nom Blanc 2012

A lot of wine here for the money, especially considering the estate's small production, painstaking vineyard work, and willingness to use 50% (expensive!) new French Oak barrels on this wine. Pretty, pure, aromas of yellow fruits - peaches, nectarines, pears - plus toasted hazelnut, rich butter, and a hint of caramel.  On the palate, the texture is nicely rich and round and the caramel and hazelnut flavors more emphatic, suggesting pear or peach tart with a buttery crust, before the bright lemon/lime citrus and green apple acidity comes up to make your mouth water and chalky minerality intermixes with the buttery, salty caramel, and ripe pear flavors that linger much longer than you'd expect.

The balance between ripe fruit, rich butter caramel, and juicy citrus/apple acids is outstanding, making this a satisfying and refreshing wine to just sip and giving it the "oompf" it needs to shine with food.  Pair it with simple roast chicken, fresh seafood, rich white or mushroom sauces, or even with fresh salads – it’s going to shine with them all.

"This Rully Blanc is an honest, straightforward wine. It is pleasantly aromatic and offers fresh, yellow fruit on a creamy, well-integrated palate, finishing on a long, chalky note. Drink over the next 2-3 years."i-Wine Review 90 points
