Buil & Giné Montsant 17XI 2009 Product #27008 (In Stock)
Buil & Giné Montsant 17XI 2009 Buil & Giné Montsant 17XI 2009

Lovely blueberry and ripe blackberry fruit with just a touch of spice here in a wine that's easy enough to drink solo but that will work well with robust roasted and grilled foods.

"Made from a blend of garnacha, carinena and tempranillo that was aged for six months in French and American oak. Opaque ruby. Smoke-accented aromas of dark berries and dried flowers, with a spicy nuance building in the glass. Youthfully taut on entry, then fleshier in the middle, offering ripe dark fruit flavors and a hint of cracked pepper. Picks up brighter red fruits on the long, tangy finish."International Wine Cellar 90 points

Clua Mas D'en Pol Blanca 2012 Product #27300 (In Stock)
Clua Mas D'en Pol Blanca 2012 Clua Mas D'en Pol Blanca 2012

Maybe it’s the great 2012 vintage (a winner in pretty much all of Europe), or perhaps it’s a little more rigorous vineyard work or a touch more sophistication in the blend.  Or, it could just be that Xavier left Muscat out of the blend this year.  Whatever the cause, this is far and away my favorite release of this sophisticated but crowd-pleasing white ever.

Xavier makes this from Grenache Blanc, Chardonnay and a dash of Sauvignon Blanc grown in the rocky, hard-to-work, vineyards of Terra Alta.  Fermented cool in tank and bottled without ever touching a barrel, it delivers just the right balance of luscious nectarine and tangy pineapple fruit with hints of lemon grass and lime pith.  Round, generous, and mouthfilling, the real excitement here is on the back palate and finish where a burst of selzer, chalk, and briny mineral emerges under the mouthwatering acidity.  A refreshing white you’ll love sipping on the back deck with nibbles and enjoy even more with shellfish, sausage, or paella.  Just a winner all around.

Clua El Sola D' En Pol Rosado 2013 Product #28634 (In Stock)
Clua El Sola D' En Pol Rosado 2013 Clua El Sola D' En Pol Rosado 2013

We love how Terra Alta's Xavier Clue delivers juicy, ripe, fresh balance in all his wines - including this lovely 2013 Rosado.  A blend of Garnacha and Syrah, it's dry, fresh and a little tangy with clean flavors of red berries, strawberry, and pink and green citrus. It's mouthfilling and plenty powerful, but also light on it's feet and mouthwatering on the long, fruit and stone, finish.

Joseph Puig Montsant Red (Garnacha) 2012 Product #28371 (In Stock)
Joseph Puig Montsant Red (Garnacha) 2012 Joseph Puig Montsant Red (Garnacha) 2012

Joseph Puig's own winery, Vinedos de Ithaca, sits in nearby Priorat, so Montsant is a region he's known long and well.  Here he's selected perfectly ripe Garnatxa Negra and allowed to age for three months in large (400 liter) French oak barrels for a touch of complexity and spice.  The result is a wine with all the ripe, joyful, fruit of a fine Montsant - confit of red raspberry, strawberry, and black cherry - with accents of sweet spice and a touch of milk chocolate.  While the flavors say "Monstant," the texture is much more smooth, soft and supple without any rustic, hard, edges.  A fantastic cookout red for lamb or beef but with enough fruit and spice to sing with BBQ ribs, too!

Perucchi Vermouth Gran Reserva Red (1 Liter) Product #26213 (In Stock)
Perucchi Vermouth Gran Reserva Red (1 Liter) Perucchi Vermouth Gran Reserva Red (1 Liter)

Vermouth Perucchi has been made in Catalonia since 1886 – but only recently imported into the United States. We think it is a delicious, new (to us) treat at a very fair price!

Perruchi shows bold spice aromas of fresh gingerbread, autumn woods and tobacco followed by delectably sweet flavors of black cherry compote macerated in ruby port, finishing with a pleasant, balancing bitter herb note. Though this would certainly be fantastic in a classic Manhattan, the flavors are so wonderful it begs to be savored. Try it on the rocks with a splash of seltzer and a wedge of orange as an aperitif or at the end of dinner, neat, with a wedge of blue cheese garnished with Membrillo or fig jam and Marcona almonds.

Joseph Puig Montsant Tinto 2011 Product #26584 (In Stock)
Joseph Puig Montsant Tinto 2011 Joseph Puig Montsant Tinto 2011

Spanish wine industry veteran Joseph Puig has a new project, uncovering great wines made by friends throughout Spain and then offering them to us at very attractive prices.  This is a fine example, a perfectly textbook Monsant.  Ripe but minerally, focused and fresh, this opens with red berry fruit and slate before darker, riper, raspberry flavors come up from underneath.  Mouthwatering on the zesty finish, this a terrific blend of great ripeness with refreshing acids and minerality.  Hedonistic in a good way.

Perucchi Vermouth Gran Reserva White (1 Liter) Product #27122 (In Stock)
Perucchi Vermouth Gran Reserva White (1 Liter) Perucchi Vermouth Gran Reserva White (1 Liter)

A compelling sweet wine from Spain's first (1876) vermouth maker.  Aromas and flavors scream "Christmas" with notes of gingerbread, marzipan, mulled apples, bitter orange, and lots of cinnamon and mint.  Luxurious and richly textured, this has a fine bitter edge that grows on the finish as the sweetness fades.  Really good with soda water or tonic on the rocks or in any cocktail where you want a ginger/cinnamon/orange note.

Joseph Puig Terra Alta Rouge (Carinena) 2011 Product #28372 (In Stock)
Joseph Puig Terra Alta Rouge (Carinena) 2011 Joseph Puig Terra Alta Rouge (Carinena) 2011

While Grenache covers more ground (and Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah get more attention), many people (well, me, anyway) think Carignan is the red grape that makes the reds of Priorat, Montsant, and Terra Alto so interesting and distinct.  Here, Joseph Puig has delivered a wonderfully ripe Carignan from Terra Alta, bursting with its characteristic blueberry and black raspberry fruit and finishing with a traditional touch of warm slate minerality.  But, unlike most 100% Carignan wines, there's nothing rustic, hard, or "grabby" about this beauty - just pure fruit, a lush texture, and soft, easy-going, structure built as much on the fresh acidity and the fine tannins at the end.  "Easy drinking" and "Carignan" don't often appear in the same sentence, but that's what you'll find here in this ripe, fruit-filled, and characterful red.
