Maybe it’s the great 2012 vintage (a winner in pretty much all of Europe), or perhaps it’s a little more rigorous vineyard work or a touch more sophistication in the blend. Or, it could just be that Xavier left Muscat out of the blend this year. Whatever the cause, this is far and away my favorite release of this sophisticated but crowd-pleasing white ever.
Xavier makes this from Grenache Blanc, Chardonnay and a dash of Sauvignon Blanc grown in the rocky, hard-to-work, vineyards of Terra Alta. Fermented cool in tank and bottled without ever touching a barrel, it delivers just the right balance of luscious nectarine and tangy pineapple fruit with hints of lemon grass and lime pith. Round, generous, and mouthfilling, the real excitement here is on the back palate and finish where a burst of selzer, chalk, and briny mineral emerges under the mouthwatering acidity. A refreshing white you’ll love sipping on the back deck with nibbles and enjoy even more with shellfish, sausage, or paella. Just a winner all around. - Mas Llunes Maragda Rosa Costa Brava 2012 Product #27063 (In Stock)

A bit gutsier than some of our other rosés this year, but still refreshing and delicious! A blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah from Spain's Costa Brava, the seacoast where Spain and France meet. Ripe fruit is harvested at night (to keep it cool and retain freshness), given a 24 hour soak, and then fermented cool in tank. The result is a pretty, bright strawberry-colored, rosé with a creamy, rich, texture. Juicy ripe strawberry and cherry fruit take center stage here with plenty of fresh fruit acidity providing lift and brightness. A tangy note of watermelon candy and citrusy acidity provide length and interest at the end. Great with salty shellfish, cheeses, and - of course - paella!

It’s a little hard to communicate how exciting we found the new release of Xavier Clua’s unoaked blend of Garnacha, Syrah, Cabernet, and Merlot. My tasting note isn’t bad: “Here there’s loads of ripe, tangy, fruit – pomegranate syrup, black raspberry and blood orange – that’s very intense and at once super sweet and super tangy. Tangy pomegranate, raspberry juice, and more blood orange well up on the mouthwatering finish with just a wisp of soft, ripe, tannin and spice. For sipping, parties, or almost any kind of fresh, grilled, or roasted food.”
But it’s actually even more exciting than that. This is the kind of complete wine that will feel friendly and fun when all you want is something to sip but deliver more complexity and character when you have it with a meal. And that makes it the kind of wine we love most – a Chain Bridge Cellars Selection. - Clua Mas d'En Pol Blanca 2011 Product #26125 (In Stock)

Importer Jonas Gustafasson brings us this fascinating white blend from Spain’s Terra Alta region - traditional Garnatxa Blanca spiced with Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and a dash of Muscat. A pretty and complex nose of peach and peach skin with a touch of citrus, grass, and summer flowers. Then rich and zippy on the palate with green peach, Clementine and orange zest flavors. Creamy texture with a bit whomp of acidity to keep things fresh and then a bitter grape skin and mineral. Delicious!
- Perucchi Vermouth Gran Reserva Sweet Nv Product #26213 (In Stock)

-
Vermouth Perucchi has been made in Catalonia since 1886 – but only recently imported into the United States. We think it is a delicious, new (to us) treat at a very fair price!
Perruchi shows bold spice aromas of fresh gingerbread, autumn woods and tobacco followed by delectably sweet flavors of black cherry compote macerated in ruby port, finishing with a pleasant, balancing bitter herb note. Though this would certainly be fantastic in a classic Manhattan, the flavors are so wonderful it begs to be savored. Try it on the rocks with a splash of seltzer and a wedge of orange as an aperitif or at the end of dinner, neat, with a wedge of blue cheese garnished with Membrillo or fig jam and Marcona almonds.
- Joseph Puig Montsant Tinto 2011 Product #26584 (In Stock)

Spanish wine industry veteran Joseph Puig has a new project, uncovering great wines made by friends throughout Spain and then offering them to us at very attractive prices. This is a fine example, a perfectly textbook Monsant. Ripe but minerally, focused and fresh, this opens with red berry fruit and slate before darker, riper, raspberry flavors come up from underneath. Mouthwatering on the zesty finish, this a terrific blend of great ripeness with refreshing acids and minerality. Hedonistic in a good way.

Lovely blueberry and ripe blackberry fruit with just a touch of spice here in a wine that's easy enough to drink solo but that will work well with robust roasted and grilled foods.
"Made from a blend of garnacha, carinena and tempranillo that was aged for six months in French and American oak. Opaque ruby. Smoke-accented aromas of dark berries and dried flowers, with a spicy nuance building in the glass. Youthfully taut on entry, then fleshier in the middle, offering ripe dark fruit flavors and a hint of cracked pepper. Picks up brighter red fruits on the long, tangy finish."International Wine Cellar 90 points

Just a "wow wine" that makes you reconsider how good a white Grenache can really be. Xavier Clua make this stunning white from old-vine Garnacha Blanca grown in the hills of Terra Alta, around Priorat. Peach, apricot and citrus fruits are wrapped in a super-intense, almost glycerol-like, wine that gets freshness from bright acids and complexity from pure liquid mineral notes. Finishes salty/sweet with fine length and lingering flavors of peach, green plum, and chalk. A captivating wine that dances on the palate and draws you back again and again.
