Dom Des Moulines Les Cigales Rose 2014 Product #29525 (In Stock)
Dom Des Moulines Les Cigales Rose 2014 Dom Des Moulines Les Cigales Rose 2014

We call this the "Sauvignon Blanc drinker's rose" for it's bright, snappy, finish.  But any fan of fine pink will enjoy this Languedoc blend of Merlot and Grenache. Aromas and flavors of cranberry, tangy cherry, and a hint of pink grapefruit are lifted up by juicy, fresh, acidity and given complexity by a stony mineral note that spreads out on the vibrant finish.  Fun to sip on a hot day and a great match for salads or shrimp and a fine value, too!

Ch Mourgues Du Gres Les Galets Rose 2013 Ch Mourgues Du Gres Les Galets Rose 2013

A rich but crisp and herabal pink from the South of France to enjoy with hearty food (or just on its own).

"Mostly syrah, with a bit of grenache. Bright orange. Ripe red berries and cherry on the nose, with a dusty mineral overtone adding vibrancy. Offers chewy bitter cherry and berry skin flavors and hints of anise and blood orange, with a touch of white pepper adding refreshing bite. The cherry and mineral notes echo on the nicely delineated finish."International Wine Cellar 89 points

Moulin De Gassac Guilhem Rose 2014 Product #29263 (In Stock)
Moulin De Gassac Guilhem Rose 2014 Moulin De Gassac Guilhem Rose 2014

Our first 2014 rosé is a winner!  This snappy pink beauty starts out as the blend used in the Guilhem Rouge.  About 10 hours after the grapes for that wine are crushed and starting to ferment, about 20% of the juice is bled off and goes into new tanks to finish its fermentation.  As soon as you see the Moulin de Gassac Guilhem Rosé, you know you’re in for a treat.  It’s a beautifully transparent salmon pink that almost sparkles in sunshine.  Aromas of fresh picked strawberries and crushed red fruits – raspberries and cherries – get a lift from floral accents and a hint of citrus rind.  In the mouth, it’s bright and crisp with loads of berry fruit and just a touch of mineral, nicely round but still light and fresh.  The acids come up on the finish and make your mouth water, leaving you looking for a little bite to eat or another refreshing sip.  Drink this on its own anytime you like, or pair it with anything from smoked salmon to fruited chicken salad.  “Berry” delicious!

Moulin De Gassac Guilhem Blanc 2013 Product #29312 (In Stock)
Moulin De Gassac Guilhem Blanc 2013 Moulin De Gassac Guilhem Blanc 2013

About 50% Grenache Blanc provides the base for Guilhem Blanc.  While it doesn’t have a lot of flavor on its own, white Grenache provides body and richness to the blend and a hint of something nutty or waxy on the nose and palate, too. Add in 25% Sauvignon Blanc, grown in cooler sites and harvested fairly early to give the wine a dose of fresh citrus fruit, aromas of fresh herb, and – in this warm climate – a touch of ripe peach and apricot.  Then – in part to help save old vines that would otherwise be ripped up – finish with a dose of 25% Terret Blanc.  One of the oldest grape varieties in Languedoc (and, until the 1960s, the most widely planted), Terret has the great virtue of retaining high acidty and lower alcohol even in the hot Sud sun.  Here it gives the wine a lift of freshness and lemony acidity plus a subtle note of fresh flowers.  The final blend is medium-bodied, mouthwatering, and full of peach, apricot, lemon, and floral aromas and flavors.  Delicious stuff and a great match for baked fish or soft cheese.

Moulin De Gassac Guilhem Rouge 2013 Product #29372 (In Stock)
Moulin De Gassac Guilhem Rouge 2013 Moulin De Gassac Guilhem Rouge 2013

While Mas de Daumas Gassac is most famous for its benchmark Languedoc estate-grown Bordeaux blends, we’ve always had a special fondness for their great value Guilhem wines. The family launched the Moulin de Gassac line-up, including Guilhem, to help preserve old-vine vineyards owned by neighbors who increasingly struggled to find buyers for their grapes and wines.  The Rouge is a blend of 50% Syrah, 25% Grenache, and equal parts Cinsault and Carignan, all from 25-30 year-old dry-farmed vines the ripen beautifully in Languedoc’s warm, sunny, climate.

The 2013 does a wonderful job of marrying the rich, warm, ripeness and stony minerality you expect from Languedoc with remarkable freshness of fruit and fragrant berry blossom accents.  A mélange of blackberry, raspberry, cherry and strawberry fruit makes up the wine’s core, with surprisingly complex grace notes of fresh flowers, warm stones, and exotic sandalwood adding interest.  A burst of raspberry puree pushes through on the finish with crushed rock minerality, mouthwatering acids, and fine tannins giving support.  You’ll be happy enjoying this on its own at a party or while dinner cooks and love how it pairs with everything from lamb burgers to pizza.

Mas De La Barben l'Improviste Blanc 2012 Product #29301 (In Stock)
Mas De La Barben l'Improviste Blanc 2012 Mas De La Barben l'Improviste Blanc 2012

It takes a little something extra to make fine white wine in the dry, hot, climate of Languedoc, but when it works, the wines can be both distinctive and delicious.  That's the story for this exotic blend of 80% Rousanne - for richness and honied fruit - and 20% Vermentino - for citrusy freshness and bitter herb.  Plenty of body here and a lovely, creamy, texture to the fresh Vermentino apple/citrus fruit and layers of salty caramel and refreshing bitter herb.  Finishes with a crisp bite and lingering note of honey and lime.

Mas De La Barben l'Improviste Rouge 2010 Product #29302 (In Stock)
Mas De La Barben l'Improviste Rouge 2010 Mas De La Barben l'Improviste Rouge 2010

Lots of delicious wines in the Rhone section of the store, but few more pure, fine, fun to drink that this.  The classic Sud Grenache (60%)/Syrah (30%) blend gets a snap of spice from 10% Cinsault here, but no oak.  Aromas of warm spiced fruit waft from the glass with lots of stone and gravel lurking underneath. In your mouth, a delicious burst of fresh, ripe, cherry/berry fruit doesn't obscure the Languedoc's typical sweet spice, garrigue, and warm stone flavors. Finishes fresh and firm, with fine tannins and mouthwatering acids that pull you back for another sip.  Excellent value here.

Chapoutier Bila Haut Cotes Du Roussillon Villages 2012 Product #27886 (In Stock)
Chapoutier Bila Haut Cotes Du Roussillon Villages 2012 Chapoutier Bila Haut Cotes Du Roussillon Villages 2012

Michel Chapoutier's genius shows through clearly in this wildly over-achieving red, a blend of Grenache, Carignan, and Syrah from schist sites in rocky Roussillon.  The 2012 is a muscular, concentrated wine that retains just the right amount of lift and freshness.  Deep aromas and flavors of red fruits - cherry, plum, and fresh raspberry tart - gain complexity from notes of smoky earth and bitter chocolate.  Rich, ripe, but perfectly balanced for table. Tangy blueberry/raspberry acidity adds freshness and makes this a great wine to pair with everything from pizza to most anything on the grill.

"Any project Michel Chapoutier is involved with seems to excel, and his Roussillon Bila Haut domaine is no exception. With vineyards around the villages of Latour de France and Lesquerde, this estate releases five reds; the entry level Les Vignes de Bila Haut, which comes from a number of vineyards (and is a screaming value)...The 2012 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Les Vignes de Bila Haut is another smoking effort that will top anyone’s value list. A tank-aged blend of Syrah, Grenache and Carignan, it is medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated and balanced, with impressive amounts of blackberry and currant-styled fruit, herbs, pepper and smoked earth aromas and flavors. Showing more minerality with air, it’s a no-brainer purchase and will drink nicely for 5-6 years or more."Wine Advocate 91 points

Clot Del Pila Muscat Sec Vdp Des Cotes Catalanes 2013 Product #28755 (In Stock)
Clot Del Pila Muscat Sec Vdp Des Cotes Catalanes 2013 Clot Del Pila Muscat Sec Vdp Des Cotes Catalanes 2013

From the warm vineyards in Languedoc-Rousillon, you'd expect an aromatic varietal like Muscat to go way over-the-top with ripeness and alcohol.  Not here! Classic aromas of super-ripe yellow fruit, exotic flowers, and a touch of sliced ginger lead to a round, mineral-laced, palate of golden pineapple and caramelized peach flavors.  The wine is bone-dry from beginning to end and finishes with generous, juicy, lemon and peach flavors and dry, dusty, mineral notes.  A great wine for seafood salad or cheese or just sipping.

Ch Camplazens La Garrigue La Clape 2012 Product #29306 (In Stock)
Ch Camplazens La Garrigue La Clape 2012 Ch Camplazens La Garrigue La Clape 2012

Possibly the sunniest vineyard in France, La Clape sits right on the Mediterranean coast in deepest Languedoc.  You'll smell and taste the region's sun-baked stones and scrubby herb and pine here but also oodles of earthy strawberry and cherry red fruit.  A floral note weaves in and out even as the wine gets meatier and more savory with air. Finishes firm and earthy with plenty of garrigue.  Fun!

Dom Anne Gros Et Jean-Paul Tollot "La 50/50" 2012 Product #29089 (In Stock)
Dom Anne Gros Et Jean-Paul Tollot Dom Anne Gros Et Jean-Paul Tollot

What happens when two of Burgundy's brightest stars make Minervois?  Deliciousness! Ripe, sophisticated, long.

"Vosne-Romanee-based Anne Gros and partner Jean-Paul Tollot (of Domaine Tollot-Beaut) fashion serious, structured and age-worthy efforts from their estate located in the northern part of the Minervois. A tank-aged blend of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan, the 2012 Minervois 50 / 50 is outstanding with its beautiful dark fruits, crushed rock, earth and underbrush-styled aromatics. Medium-bodied, elegant and with a superbly layered, rich mid-palate, it will benefit from another year in bottle and drink nicely for 3-5 years after that."Wine Advocate 90 points

Chapoutier Bila Haut Occultum Lapidem 2013 Product #29135 (In Stock)
Chapoutier Bila Haut Occultum Lapidem 2013 Chapoutier Bila Haut Occultum Lapidem 2013

Bila Haut is Michel Chapoutier’s outpost in “the Sud,” and a great example of what a top Hermitage grower/winemaker can do in Roussillon’s rocky, barren, wind-swept, soils. "Occultum Lapidem" is Latin for "hidden stone,” and you’ll certainly find plenty of rocky, chalky, minerality at this wine’s core.  But, the stones are cloaked by instense fruit flavors and suggestions of savory roasted meat that will come forward with time.

“A step up and an incredible effort, the 2013 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Latour de France Occultum Lapidem is made from a mix of Syrah, Grenache and Carignan that comes from schist and chalky soils. A serious, classically styled effort, it offers awesome aromas and flavors (blackberry, mineral and licorice), full-bodied richness and fabulous concentration that never comes across as heavy or cumbersome. Showing additional minerality and definition with time in the glass, this beauty will have 10-15 years of longevity and should not be missed. Drink 2014 – 2029.” Wine Advocate 94-97 points
