Dom De l'Hemoniere Sauvignon Blanc Touraine 2013 Product #28467 (In Stock)
Dom De l'Hemoniere Sauvignon Blanc Touraine 2013 Dom De l'Hemoniere Sauvignon Blanc Touraine 2013

This could just be the perfect year-round Sauvignon Blanc - refreshing enough for summer heat and rich enough for mid-winter seafood.  It's 100% Sauvignon Blanc from the middle Loire valley (not too far from Vouvray), and shows off lovely ripeness in 2013.  Sweet pink grapefruit, green melon, and Granny Smith apple aromas carry through to the generous flavors where a touch of spice and lime zest kick in, too.  Nicely full in the mouth but juicy clean at the end with just a touch of grapefruit zest and cut grass. Pretty darn delicious.

Dom La Prevote Touraine Sauvignon Blanc 2012 Dom La Prevote Touraine Sauvignon Blanc 2012

A rich and fruity Touraine that reminds us why this is one of the best spots in the world for great value Sauvginon Blanc.  Plenty of yellow, orange, and pink citrus aromas and flavors with a touch of green melon and a pretty whiff of fresh cut grass.  More flinty and mineral than most Touraine wines, but still generous and creamy with a clean, crisp, finish of Myer lemon and lime.

Henri Bourgeois Sauvignon Petit Bourgeois 2013 Product #28614 (In Stock)
Henri Bourgeois Sauvignon Petit Bourgeois 2013 Henri Bourgeois Sauvignon Petit Bourgeois 2013

Basically a “baby Sancerre”, this exciting young Sauvignon Blanc is grown on the same chalky slate soils you’ll find across Sancerre from 10-40 year-old vines, fermented in stainless steel and allowed to rest 3 months on the fine lees.  The vineyard is located just outside the legal boundary of Sancerre, but the flavors make you feel right in the middle!

As in the past, generous, fresh, aromas of fresh flowers, just cut grass, white grapefruit, and a hint of wet stones burst from the glass.  Then you’ll find a tad more richness and zest to the crisp citrus and green apple fruit, tangy gooseberry, and fresh grass.  As the refreshing acidity wells up to make your mouth water, a bit of Sancerre’s trademark “gun flint” character shows underneath the juicy bright fruit.  There’s a wonderful rich/brisk, sweet/sour contrast in this wine that will delight and fascinate with every sip.  Served cold, it’s thirst quenching and refreshing.  Let it warm up a touch and it’s layered, complex, and a fantastic match for seafood, fresh vegetables, and – of course – goat cheese.

Bedouet Clos Des Grands Primos Muscadet Sevre Et Maine 2013 Product #28834 (In Stock)
Bedouet Clos Des Grands Primos Muscadet Sevre Et Maine 2013 Bedouet Clos Des Grands Primos Muscadet Sevre Et Maine 2013

You'll find all of the saline minerality and chiseled cut you'd expect from fine Muscadet here, but also a generous roundness to the texture and a plenty of ripe apple and tangy lime fruit. The Clos de Grans Primos vineyard is a rocky mess of granite, schist and gneiss - no fun to farm, but wonderful for Muscadet's Melon de Bourgogne grape.  Wet stone, lime zest, and thyme notes linger nicely.  Great with shellfish and a joy to drink on its own as well.

Certified Organic Grapes.  Betes Curieusses is a partnership of two Jeremies - Huchet and Mourat - who are making some of the most exciting terroir-driven Muscadet we've ever seen.  This wine comes from vineyards laced with decomposed granite over sand, warm soils that give remarkable ripeness.  It's a round, fruit-filled, Muscadet - almost creamy in texture - with a touch of peach to complement the salty mineral and lime zest.  Brisk, bracing, and utterly delicious.

Ch De Villeneuve Saumur Champigny VV 2002 Ch De Villeneuve Saumur Champigny VV 2002

Sure, most Loire Valley Cabernet Franc is built for early consumption with bistro food, but Jean-Pierre Chevallier old vines cuvee from 2002 has taken on even more complexity and charm with age. Savory aromas of roasted pepper, black olive, grilled meat and aged tobacco lead to a mellow mouthful of meaty black fruit, forest floor, and more dried tobacco.  Earthy and rich in the midpalate before bright acids and juicy roasted bell pepper notes refresh at the end.  Complex, layered, fascinating.

If there's a more fun to drink Loire Cab Franc out there, we don't know it!  While there's plenty of Anjou fresh herb, cracked pepper, and juicy acidity here, the lush, ripe, red currant, raspberry and cherry fruit stars.  The lush, velvety, mid-palate fruit coats your mouth before tangy cherry acidity scrubs things clean and hints of fresh raspberry blossom leaves you wanting more.

Ch Marie du Fou Mareuil Rose 2013 Product #28455 (In Stock)

The Mourat family's Chateau Marie du Fou is the only winery to be located in the historic town of Mareuil sur Lay, about 14 miles East of the Atlantic Ocean. Their rose is a blend of Pinot Noir, Gamay, Cabernet Franc, and a touch of Sauvignon that delivers very sophisticated aromas and flavors of fresh, ripe, strawberries dusted with savory herb and accented by just a touch of tangy cherry.  Very smooth and pure in texture with a dry, herb-laced, mouthwatering finish.  Lovely stuff.

Ch Marie Du Fou Blanc 2013 Ch Marie Du Fou Blanc 2013

From the seldom-seen Fiefs Vendeens Mareuil AOC - although you can see several examples from the Mourat family here because we've simply fallen in love with these wines!  Just a dozen miles inland from the Atlantic and a bit south of Muscadet, both Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay seem to ripen nicely here while retaining fine acidity and a touch of minerality, too.  You'll find both those grapes here (70% Chenin) with a touch of oak from fermentation in 5 year-old barrels.  Layers of wonderful complexity to the waxy white fruit - peach, white apricot, plum - along with green melon and Granny Smith apple.  Sophisticated in texture and on the long, intense, finish where salty mineral and crushed herb flavors linger.  An exciting wine that gets more fascinating the longer you drink it.

Gauthier Bourgueil Les Vingt Lieux Dits 2011 Product #27971 (In Stock)
Gauthier Bourgueil Les Vingt Lieux Dits 2011 Gauthier Bourgueil Les Vingt Lieux Dits 2011

A very special Loire Cabernet Franc from the top parcels farmed by Pierre and Catherine Gauthier in Bourgueil, across the river from Chinon.  The Gauthier's farm organically, ferment using native yeasts, and age their wines in used double-sized casks.  The 2011 is lovely with beautiful aromas of purple fruit, green tobacco and a subtle earthy note.  In the mouth it's snappy and crisp with tart cherry and purple berry fruit, more tobacco, and pleasing cherry pit bitterness.  A great wine for fresh greens or peppers and better still with classic steak frite!

Dom Siret Courtaud Quincy 2012 Product #29007 (In Stock)
Dom Siret Courtaud Quincy 2012 Dom Siret Courtaud Quincy 2012

West of Touraine, East of Sancerre, Quincy (pronounced "Can-See!") is the Loire Valley's overlooked Sauvignon Blanc region.  But the Kimmeridgian soils overlooking the Cher River have the same character as you'll find in Sancerre, if with a lighter, fresher, texture.  This is lovely Quincy, bursting with white grapefruit aromas and pithy, sweet and bitter, white grapefruit on the palate. Creamy in texture and snappy on the long, mouthwatering, mineral-inflected, finish, this isn't the most complex Sauvignon ever.  But it is delicious and very satisfying.

A fantastic bottle of Chenin Blanc that teeters brilliantly on the border between "sec" and "demi-sec".  Complex and captivating aromas of waxy asian pear and herb honey open things up.  Then, juicy on the entry and explosive flavors of pear, apple, flowers, and a touch of spice that gain richness from a hint of sweetness before the acids break through and deliver a dry, crisp, finish.  Very complex with deep flavors and excellent acids.

Ch Du Coing Muscadet Comte De St Hubert 1999 Product #28202 (In Stock)
Ch Du Coing Muscadet Comte De St Hubert 1999 Ch Du Coing Muscadet Comte De St Hubert 1999

Here's how Wine Spectator described this wine - in June, 2003!  "A dressed-up Muscadet, with almond and hints of toast lying over the more common lemon, lime, floral and briny flavors. Has just enough zip to offset the creamy-textured finish. Very nice, though a bit atypical. Drink now."

Well, 10 years later and nearly 15 years after harvest, this wine is still going strong. The aromas and flavors are a bit exotic, with white stone fruit, lemon/lime zest, lemon curd, and loads of salty mineral weaving in and out.  It's still creamy in texture and still has enough acidity to stay in balance, but it's also picked up hints of fresh almond and iodine.  Captivating to just sip and a perfect match for sophisticated seafood dishes.  Oh - and while "drink now" is still good advice, there's no rush.

Dom Des Baumard Coteaux Du Layon Carte d'Or 2011 Product #28429 (In Stock)
Dom Des Baumard Coteaux Du Layon Carte d'Or 2011 Dom Des Baumard Coteaux Du Layon Carte d'Or 2011

A brilliant late-harvest Chenin that crackles with energy - drink with almond desserts or on it's own.

"This selection of grapes from old vines is presented as the least sweet and the lightest of Baumard\'s late-harvest wines. It\'s clean and dynamic, a heady, layered chenin with scents of jasmine, orange and apple butter. The juiciness comes up against soil-inflected acidity, a fine, sandy grit to ameliorate the sweetness. Pour it with a savory almond torte."Wine & Spirits 93 points

"The acidity is almost shocking, cutting through the richness of the wine. Its sweet apple and lemon flavors balance the honey and maple syrup notes. The wine is still young, demanding aging over a decade at least. beautifully ripe. Screwcap." Wine Enthusiast 92 points
