Poggio Alloro Chianti DOCG 2014 Product #30149 (In Stock)
Poggio Alloro Chianti DOCG 2014 Poggio Alloro Chianti DOCG 2014

Here’s proof that great farming and straight-ahead winemaking can deliver fine Chianti – and even finer value! – from outside the Classico zone.  More and more Chianti is either all Sangiovese or Sangiovese strengthened with dollops of Cabernet or Syrah.  Here, a family dedicated to natural, organic, farming turns back to Tuscan tradition to make Chianti from an old-school blend of grapes:  Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino and Ciliegiolo.  Sangiovese gives the wine heft and structure, while Canaiolo adds volume, Colorino deepens the color, and Ciliegiolo – Sangiovese’s genetic parent – soft red cherry fruit.

All of this comes together to deliver a ripe, zesty, Chianti that’s very easy to drink.  Ripe black and red cherry fruit forms the wine’s core and gains interest and complexity from accents of crushed violets, red licorice, rich earth, and sweet spice accents.  There’s no oak influence at all, allowing ripe fruit to shine through while retaining outstanding freshness and just the right touch of structure at the end.  A fine party Chianti, for sure, and one that will be as much fun to drink with a big bowl of pasta as with burgers or rosemary-scented pork.

Poggio Alloro Vernaccia di San Gimignano 2014 Product #30146 (In Stock)
Poggio Alloro Vernaccia di San Gimignano 2014 Poggio Alloro Vernaccia di San Gimignano 2014

A classic Vernaccia, made from 100% Organic grapes harvested at optimum ripeness and allowed to become wine slowly, naturally, in neutral tank.  Generous with its apple and stone fruit, this gains plenty of complexity from accents of citrus skin, white flowers, and fresh fennel frond.  The lip-smacking fresh finish makes it a great sipper and better still with fish, poultry, and cheese.

“Editors’ Choice! Made with organically farmed grapes, this crisp, savory white opens with aromas of wildflower, stone fruit and an earthy whiff of flint. The linear, vibrant palate offers fresh peach, crunchy Granny Smith apple and a citrus note. It’s balanced by tangy acidity and closes on an almond note.”Wine Enthusiast 90 points

Potazzine Rosso Di Montalcino 2011 Product #30449 (In Stock)
Potazzine Rosso Di Montalcino 2011 Potazzine Rosso Di Montalcino 2011

Always one of the very best Rosso di Montalcino reds, the 2011 Potazzine kicks up the complexity and purity an extra notch or two.  This is absolutely delicious right now and will be at its best from 2017.

"Dark red. Enticing aromas of redcurrant, blueberry, minerals and violet on the refined nose. Dense, chewy and bright, with outstanding intensity to the pure, clean, mineral-driven flavors of redcurrant, raspberry and licorice. Harmonious acidity gives the fruit a penetrating quality. Finishes bright, smooth and long, with lovely sweetness and real personality. Year in and year out, the Gorelli family seems to make one of the best Rosso di Montalcinos; there are few surer bets than this one in the world of Italian wine."  Vinous (d'Agata) 91 points
