- Vina Alarba Old Vines Garnacha 2011 Product #26315 (In Stock)
-
-
Here’s one of those wines that leaves you scratching your head and asking, “How did they make something this good at this price?!?” Old vine (50 years and more), bush-trained, Garnacha is naturally low-yielding and concentrated in this barren, high-altitude, region. All fruit is hand-harvested, double-sorted, and vinified in a mix of stainless steel, concrete and oak.
You'll find a lovely perfume of fresh earth, lavender, and black cherries leading to medium-bodied, fresh, flavors of tart cherry and black raspberry with a spicy, mineral, edge. The balance here is just perfect and the interplay of sweet fruit, tangy acidity, fresh earth, warm stones, and ripe tannin will pull you back for sip after sip. Chill this to get even more juicy freshness or let it warm up for the fruit to darken and gain richness. A terrific sipper, it will work at table with anything from grilled fish to roasted vegitables or pork. And, just silly value at this price! - Mas Llunes Maragda Rosa Costa Brava 2012 Product #27063 (In Stock)
-
-
A bit gutsier than some of our other rosés this year, but still refreshing and delicious! A blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah from Spain's Costa Brava, the seacoast where Spain and France meet. Ripe fruit is harvested at night (to keep it cool and retain freshness), given a 24 hour soak, and then fermented cool in tank. The result is a pretty, bright strawberry-colored, rosé with a creamy, rich, texture. Juicy ripe strawberry and cherry fruit take center stage here with plenty of fresh fruit acidity providing lift and brightness. A tangy note of watermelon candy and citrusy acidity provide length and interest at the end. Great with salty shellfish, cheeses, and - of course - paella!

- Mas D' Alezon Faugeres Presbytere 2009 Product #26415 (In Stock)
-
-
80% Grenache, with the balance Syrah and Mourvedre, Le Presbytere opens with aromas of ripe, dark cherries and baking spices. It needs a bit of air to open up, but once it does, it has the same sophisticated minerality as its Mourvedre-based sister, but fleshier fruit. This would be delicious with sauteed duck breast.
- Joseph Puig Montsant Tinto 2011 Product #26584 (In Stock)
-
-
Spanish wine industry veteran Joseph Puig has a new project, uncovering great wines made by friends throughout Spain and then offering them to us at very attractive prices. This is a fine example, a perfectly textbook Monsant. Ripe but minerally, focused and fresh, this opens with red berry fruit and slate before darker, riper, raspberry flavors come up from underneath. Mouthwatering on the zesty finish, this a terrific blend of great ripeness with refreshing acids and minerality. Hedonistic in a good way.
- Dom La Tour Vieille Banyuls Rimage 2011 Product #26928 (In Stock)
-
-
The classic red dessert wine of the deep South of France (just a few miles north of the Spanish border), this is a blend of 90% Grenache and 10% Carignan aged in large barrels and bottled young for freshness. A non-oxidized style of Banyuls, it's loaded with aromas and flavors of chocolate, dark plum, and black cherry and finishes long and richly sweet. A great wine for a cheese course or, of course, chocolate!
