Giuggiolo Toscana Rosso 2011 Product #28153 (In Stock)
Giuggiolo Toscana Rosso 2011 Giuggiolo Toscana Rosso 2011

Here is my actual tasting note from the first time I tried this:  “This is just stupid delicious.”  A few more details – this is 100% Sangiovese made in staeinless steel that opens with fresh and lovely aromas of violets, purple fruits and crushed cherries.  In the mouth it’s juicy and ripe with loads of pretty fruit and a dark, earthy, streak.  Bright and clean through the end with a delicious note of coffee and cocoa dust emerging at the end.  Drink it with a little chill with pizza and pasta or warmer with anything off the grill.  Like I said:  Stupid delicious.

Fiore Chianti DOCG Fiore Nero 2012 Product #28382 (In Stock)
Fiore Chianti DOCG Fiore Nero 2012 Fiore Chianti DOCG Fiore Nero 2012

This is the second wine we've featured from Italy's Alessandro Fiore and, like the way over-achieving Super-Tuscan Rosso, it's a lot of wine for the money.  We could give you all kind of descriptive prose about the 2012 Fiore Nero Chianti DOCG - but it all boils down to: "This smells and tastes like Chianti!"  Specifically, a really nice, old-school, Chianti with great fruit and a soft, supple, finish.  Classic Chianti aromas of earthy black cherry and raspberry lead to plenty of dark berry fruit with some nice floral and licorice accents. The black fruit keeps on pumping across the fine tannins at the end as a hint of fresh leather emerges and juicy acids make your mouth water.

In short, it's a very fine Spaghetti House Chianti full of clean, modern, fruit and plenty of old-school fun. Grab a case, bake up a big dish of lasagna, and have a party!

Pieve Vecchia Sangiovese Chorum Montecucco 2010 Product #27327 (In Stock)
Pieve Vecchia Sangiovese Chorum Montecucco 2010 Pieve Vecchia Sangiovese Chorum Montecucco 2010

This Sangiovese from the fairly new Tuscan DOC of Montecucco waaay over-delivers for it's modest price. Lush aromas of dark cherry fruit and leather carry through to the sexy palate, which bursts with tangy ripe fruit dusted with fresh herb. There's lots of richness here, but also great energy from beginning to end where a hit of bitter chocolate and herb linger nicely.  A whole lot of wine for the money.

Tenuta Le Calcinaie Chianti Colli Senesi 2012 Product #28729 (In Stock)
Tenuta Le Calcinaie Chianti Colli Senesi 2012 Tenuta Le Calcinaie Chianti Colli Senesi 2012

Organic Grapes.  Here's a gutsy, ripe, blend of Sangiovese with just a tiny bit of Canaiolo Nero) that delivers romas and flavors of black cherry fruit with accents of violets, licorice, and a hint of spice. There's just the right amount of Chianti heft and tannic power on the finish, but a nice burst of tangy cherry acidity keeps the dark fruit and floral flavors fresh and focused across the long finish.  A great steak Chianti and ready to drink now.

Voliero Rosso Di Montalcino 2012 Product #29123 (In Stock)
Voliero Rosso Di Montalcino 2012 Voliero Rosso Di Montalcino 2012

From Ucceliera's Andrea Cortonesi, Voliero reflects the more purfumed, elegant, style flowing from northern Montalcino's sandier soils.  In the hot 2012 harvest, the Rosso has a touch more Brunello-like heft and is nicely rich but with silky tannins and a finish that won't quit.  A great companion for winter soups, roast pork, or even just a nice spread of salami and cheese.  It will get better over the next few years, but I can’t imagine anyone letting a case last beyond 2015; it’s just too delicious right now.

"Without a shadow of a doubt, Andrea Cortonesi of Uccelliera lands high on my list of favorite Brunello di Montalcino producers. His Casato 1 project is a relatively new winemaking venture that pairs with a gorgeous Eno-Ristorante that Andrea has opened at the heart of Siena not far from the romantically shell-shaped Piazza del Campo. The 2012 Rosso di Montalcino Voliero is an impeccable expression with great precision and energy loaded deep within the inky consistency of the wine. Black cherry and blackberry stand to immediate attention and segue gradually to earthy tones of leather and spice. There’s a level of intensity and sophistication that is rare to find in Rosso di Montalcino. The wine ages in oak for ten months. Drink: 2014-2019."Wine Advocate 90 points

Carpineta Fontalpino Chianti Classico 2012 Product #29226 (In Stock)
Carpineta Fontalpino Chianti Classico 2012 Carpineta Fontalpino Chianti Classico 2012

Gioia Cresti fashioned her 2012 Chianti Classico from 100% Sangiovese grapes grown  at 350 meters elevation in Castelnuovo Berardenga.  Fermentation in tank followed by 12 months aging in neutral barrel lets the fruit shine through while mellowing Sangiovese’s often hard tannins.  You’ll find bold and classic Chianti aromas of dark black cherry, leather, dried tobacco, crushed violet and more jump out of the glass at first pour and get deeper and more ripe with air.  Plenty of the dark, rich, fruit you expect from this warm 2012 vintage, but also some of the clarity and juicy acids that make Fontalpino so easy to drink and pair with food.  The tannins are fine and ripe and the juicy cherry/berry and violet notes linger nicely.  Very classic Chianti indeed.

"Serious density and freshness for the vintage with dark-berry and fresh-mushroom character. Full body with fine tannins and a crisp finish. Drink now." James Suckling 90 points

"Bright, saturated red. Aromas of red cherry, dark berries, tobacco and violet, lifted by a whiff of minty minerals. Bright, juicy and sappy, showing very good density to the vibrant flavors of redcurrant, tobacco and gunflint. This solidly structured, mineral-bright Chianti Classico finishes with a firm tannic spine and just screams sangiovese. I was pleasantly surprised by this estate's performance this year, and I'll be following the wines more closely in the years to come."  Vinous 90 points

"Rich and elegant, with cherry, strawberry, tobacco and tea flavors. Medium-bodied, with firm tannins defining the finish. Best from 2016 through 2022. 4,200 cases made." Wine Spectator 90 points

Gracciano Della Seta Vino Nobile Di Montepulciano 2011 Gracciano Della Seta Vino Nobile Di Montepulciano 2011

An exciting, 100% Sangiovese, Vino Nobile that's been softened by 24 months in large barrel but still retains a bit of Montepulciano's wildness.  Generous aromas of dark fruit, spiced, and aged tobacco.  Then a plush, velvety, mouthful of ripe raspberry, cherry, and balsamic macerated strawberry fruit with accents of smoke, spice, and leather.  The texture and finely tanninc finish are smooth and classy with nice squirt of cranberry tang at the end.

Isole E Olena Chianti Classico 2012 Isole E Olena Chianti Classico 2012

A pretty, floral, vintage for this long-time favorite.  If it's lighter than in some years, it's also very fresh and elegant with a long, mouthwatering, finish.

"Smoky, musky aromas of red berries, flint, tea leaf and game. Sweet, fresh and round, with a hint of dried herbs adding interest to the red cherry and flinty plum flavors. Good vinosity here, and a persistent finish featuring fine-grained tannins and explosive repeating flavors of musky red berries."International Wine Cellar 90 points

Castello Dei Rampolla Chianti Classico 2011 Product #28167 (In Stock)
Castello Dei Rampolla Chianti Classico 2011 Castello Dei Rampolla Chianti Classico 2011

With Fontodi, Felsina, and Querciabella, this is always one of Chianti's best.  There's a silky juiciness to the wine that makes it hard to resist right now, but it's likely to peak in 2015 and last through 2021.  Outstanding value in elite-level Chianti.

"The 2011 Chianti Classico is a great introduction to the wines of Rampolla. Much more structured than most wines of the year, the 2011 nevertheless has plenty of radiance and voluptuousness in its dark, resonant fruit. Sweet floral and deeply pitched spice notes add lift on the beautiful, delineated finish. This is a fairly approachable vintage for the Chianti Classico, but another year or two in bottle should help the tannins soften a touch."  Antonio Galloni 91 points

Tenuta di Valgiano Palistorti Rosso 2011 Product #29058 (In Stock)
Tenuta di Valgiano Palistorti Rosso 2011 Tenuta di Valgiano Palistorti Rosso 2011

A blend of biodynamically grown Sangiovese and 15% each Merlot and Syrah from pebble and sandstone laced vineyards overlooking the walled Tuscan city of Luca.  I can’t quite decide if this is more like a 3-4 year-old Brunello or a really nice vintage of Antinori’s Tignanello super-Tuscan.  From the nose to the rich, powerful, palate this explodes with pure black cherry, fruit blossom, spice, and expensive leather aromas and flavors.  The very deep flavors get support from fine-grained, ripe, tannins as hints of crushed herb, licorice, and expensive balsamic weave in and out of the long, long, finish.  Distinctive, delicious, and very nicely priced.

"The 2011 Palistorti di Valgiano is fabulous. A bevy of expressive red fruit, flowers, spices and mint hit the palate in this expressive, exuberant wine. Readers who want to learn about Valgiano can start here. This is a gorgeous entry-level offering."  Antonio Galloni 92 points
