Finca Sobreno Crianza Toro 2011 Product #29191 (In Stock)
Finca Sobreno Crianza Toro 2011 Finca Sobreno Crianza Toro 2011

This has been a Spanish value staple for years now, and the 2011 is yet another fine Toro Tempranillo.  The wine is 100% Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo), hand harvested from vines 30+ years-old. There’s plenty of ripe Temparnillo fruit here – cherry, blackberry and plum – and very nice doses of wood spice and the grape’s exotic sandalwood fragrance.  But cool nights on the vine and careful treatment in the winery leave a bright, refreshing, acidity in place as well and the smooth, refined, tannins don’t get in the way of solo sipping pleasure.  A lot of wine for a very  modest price.

"Deep ruby. Smoky cherry and roasted coffee on the nose, with attractive floral and spicecake notes. Lush and expansive in the mouth, offering broad cherry and cassis flavors and a hint of licorice. A suave, gently sweet and open-knit wine, with a spicy element emerging on the long, gently tannic finish."International Wine Cellar 90 points

Recorba Ribera Del Duero Tinto 2014 Product #29706 (In Stock)
Recorba Ribera Del Duero Tinto 2014 Recorba Ribera Del Duero Tinto 2014

The Recorba Ribera del Duero Tinto is an example of what happens when you get Tempranillo all the way ripe and then let it show it’s colors without any wood at all.  Big aromas and flavors of red plum, black cherry and raspberry take center stage with accents of natural spice, warm stones, and a touch of exotic sandalwood.  A huge “bang for the buck” Tempranillo to enjoy by itself or with pretty much anything you’d put on the grill.

Vina Galana Tempranillo 2013 Vina Galana Tempranillo 2013

Not to serious package for this not too serious (but very delicious!) no-oak Tempranillo.  Generous aromas of cherry, black raspberry and leather with a hint of licorice.  Then bold, rich, flavors of black plum and chocolate with juicy floral and licorice accents that gain strength on the finish.  Plenty of heft and firm, focused, tannins make this a great burger/chop choice but fun to just sip, too.

Convento Oreja Ribera Del Duero Roble 2014 Product #29884 (In Stock)
Convento Oreja Ribera Del Duero Roble 2014 Convento Oreja Ribera Del Duero Roble 2014

A great value, great drinking, Ribera del Duero that's much classier than the price suggests.  100% Tempranillo aged briefly in 40% French and 60% American oak before bottling and landing here still fresh as a daisy.  Lush and rich in texture but with fine supporting acidity and tannins make this fun to sip solo and great with even big flavors at table.

"Black fruit compote, cola and peppery spices on the perfumed nose, with notes of incense and licorice pastille adding complexity. Deep, sappy and broad on the palate, offering flavors of black and blue fruit liqueur that pick up a spicy element with aeration. Gains energy in the glass, finishing with lingering notes of candied dark berries and slow-building, harmonious tannins."  Vinous (Reynolds) 90 points

Burgo Viejo Rioja Reserva 2008 Product #30469 (In Stock)
Burgo Viejo Rioja Reserva 2008 Burgo Viejo Rioja Reserva 2008

Plenty of classic Rioja aromas, flavors, and complexity here in a 2008 that's maturing nicely, but has plenty of runway in front of it.  Superb value.

"Dried cherry, dark chocolate, minerals and smoky oak on the nose. Supple, oaky and pliant, offering bitter cherry and redcurrant flavors complicated by notes of coconut and chewing tobacco. Dusty tannins give shape to the persistent finish, which repeats the cherry and smoke notes."  Vinous (Reynolds) 90 points

"The outstanding 2008 Reserva (85% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha and 5% Carignan) exhibits plenty of spicy vanillin, forest floor, sweet, jammy black currant and black cherry fruit, and hints of cedarwood and Christmas fruitcake. Its complex aromatics are followed by a full-bodied, opulent, well-made Rioja that should drink well for 3-5 years."Wine Advocate 90 points

Matsu Toro El Recio 2012 Product #29832 (In Stock)
Matsu Toro El Recio 2012 Matsu Toro El Recio 2012

A big, gutsy, "Tinto de Toro (Tempranillo) with all the heft you'd expect from this hot, arid, region but a touch of polish and class, too.  Aged 14 months in mostly used French oak, it serves up big aromas and flavors of red and black berries, dark chocolate, baking spice, and creamy vanilla.  Full and fleshy on the palate and finishing with fine tannins and plenty of fruit and spice.

"The 2012 El Recio is a ripe, showy and juicy red with aromas of red and black cherries, apricot and dried flowers, quite attractive. The palate is medium-bodied and with polished tannins, easy to drink, round and supple, no doubt helped by a touch of residual sugar."Wine Advocate 90 points

"The 2008 Reserva shows good concentration and fresh aromas of an Atlantic vintage, with quite a traditional profile displaying notes of red fruit, spices, leather and dill, and a medium-bodied palate with intense and clean flavors and a supple finish. Bodegas Luis Canas Rioja Reserva Familia 2009 Product #30613 (In Stock)
Bodegas Luis Canas Rioja Reserva Familia 2009 Bodegas Luis Canas Rioja Reserva Familia 2009

A compelling blend of 85% Tempranillo and 15% Graciano and Garnacha, all from 45 year old vines in Rioja Alta.  Aged 20 months in new French and American oak casks, this is a lovely blend in Rioja tradition and modern style.

"Ripe dark berries, vanilla and candied flowers on the pungent nose, with a minerally quality adding lift. Spicy and expansive on the palate, offering intense cherry and raspberry liqueur flavors and a hint of mocha. Becomes deeper and more broad with air and finishes with velvety tannins and a repeating floral pastille note that lingers with strong tenacity."  Vinous (Reynolds) 92 points

"Smoky, toasty oak aromas are dominant on a black-fruit bouquet that also shows graphite. This is saturated and tight, with complexity and outright deliciousness of savory, meaty, spicy blackberry flavors. Toast, cured beef and cocoa flavors prove that there's more to this than just heft and oak."Wine Enthusiast 93 points

"Firm and focused, this solid red delivers black cherry, tobacco and cola flavors over firm tannins, with balsamic acidity and a spicy finish. Not a showy wine, but fresh and harmonious. Drink now through 2022. 8,500 cases made."Wine Spectator 92 points

Almirez Toro 2012 Product #29786 (In Stock)
Almirez Toro 2012 Almirez Toro 2012

A blockbuster Toro Tempranillo that remains remarkably fresh.

"Opaque purple. Smoky blueberry and cherry compote aromas pick up a peppery nuance with air, along with a subtle mocha quality. Fleshy and seamless on the palate, offering sweet, concentrated black and blue fruit flavors and a touch of lavender pastille. Spreads out nicely on the juicy, penetrating finish, which is framed by silky, slow-building tannins."  Vinous 92 points

"The 2012 Almirez (a 1,000-case cuvée of 100% Tinta de Toro) was aged 14 months in French oak. This sensational wine comes from vines planted between 1949 and 1999. Yields were a conservative 1.8 tons of fruit per acre. An inky/purple color is followed by aromas of camphor, ground pepper, blackberries and cassis. This full-bodied, Northern Rhône Valley-like Spanish red exhibits meaty/lard notes, terrific density and purity, and a finish that lasts nearly 40 seconds. It should drink nicely for a decade or more."Wine Advocate 93 points

"A polished texture conceals the solid structure in this muscular red, which offers currant and blackberry flavors that show notes of espresso and tar. Gamy and savory accents lend this an austere character, but fresh acidity maintains liveliness. Best from 2016 through 2024."Wine Spectator 90 points

A field blend of 70yr old Tempranillo (55%) plus 20% Garnacha, 10% Mazuelo, 10% Graciano and 5% Monastrell that the winery refers to as "Vidau."  There's a great marriage of the traditional - bright acidity, mellow American oak influence - and the modern - rich texture, loads of fruit - here that will satisfy pretty much any Rioja lover.

"Heady, oak-spiced aromas of black and blue fruits, cigar box and cola, with a sexy floral nuance emerging with aeration. Seductively sweet and expansive, offering intense blueberry, cassis and vanilla bean flavors that deliver liqueur-like intensity and depth. Seamless in texture, with slow-building tannins adding shape to the clinging, smoky finish. In a distinctly modern style and awfully easy to drink now."  Vinous (Reynolds) 92 points
