- Lopez De Haro Rioja Reserva 2005 Product #28490 (In Stock)
Huge savings on delicious, highly-rated, fully mature, Rioja Reserva – not much more that needs to be said! The style here is what I might call “restrained modern.” Great care has been taken to preserve ripe fruit flavors (and, for a 9 year-old wine, there’s a LOT of fruit here) and a deft use of French and American oak imparts classic Rioja earth, smoke and spice notes without overwhelming the wine. The combination of oodles of dark fruit and traditional Rioja funk reminds us of long-time favorite Muga. Drink it now for the fruit or cellar it for years if you enjoy the lighter, tea and chamomile tang of more traditional Rioja.
“These are excellent wines brimming with personality and well-judged, prudent winemaking. The 2005 Hacienda Lopez de Haro Reserva is a blend of 90% Tempranillo, 5% Graciano and 5% Garnacha aged for 20 months in French and American oak. It has a beautiful, rounded, sensual bouquet with hints of over-ripe Satsuma and gravel. The palate is medium-bodied with a touch of piquancy on the entry. It has crisp acidity and taut tannins on the dry, dusky finish but it remains extremely well-focused. Drink now-2025.”Wine Advocate 92 points
- Dom Larue Saint-aubin Vieilles Vignes 2005 Product #28212 (In Stock)
Didier’s old-vine village cuvee surprised even a fan like me – it’s very classy and wildly complex, changing constantly as your sit with the glass. Generous aromas feature brown butter, burre blanc, crushed mint, and a savory note that reminds one of lobster stock. The flavors follow the nose and while there’s plenty of ripe orchard and stone fruit here, the overall impact is more savory than sweet. The fruit picks up a red tinge – cherry? – with air to go with dashes of fresh almond, marzipan, dried honey, and a saline note that reminds you of the sea. Lovely, mouthwatering, and brilliant with lobster or shellfish of any kind!
