Ch Damase Bordeaux Superieur 2011 Product #31350 (In Stock)
Ch Damase Bordeaux Superieur 2011 Ch Damase Bordeaux Superieur 2011

Mostly Merlot, with 10% Carmenere and 5% Petit Verdot for color and structure.  Unusually - at least at this price point - the wine ages entirely in new and 1 year-old oak casks for a year.  A richly fruit-filled Bordeaux - cherry, cassis, plum - with sophisticated accents of smoke, cedar, and herb.  Almost California fruit levels with sweet spice, but plenty of Bordeaux class at the end.

Colsanto Sagrantino Montefalco 2011 Product #30578 (In Stock)
Colsanto Sagrantino Montefalco 2011 Colsanto Sagrantino Montefalco 2011

A classic expression of Umbria's best red grape, this showcases aromas of smoked herb, spice, rich dark berries. The palate is big and bold with flavors of rich fruit accented by notes of savory herb, leather and bitter espresso bean. The tannins are big - that's what Sagrantino is all about - but fine.  Match it with a big chunk of grilled meat and all will be fine.

Dom Philippe Plantevin CdR Villages La Daurelle 2011 Product #30941 (In Stock)
Dom Philippe Plantevin CdR Villages La Daurelle 2011 Dom Philippe Plantevin CdR Villages La Daurelle 2011

Probably the best value in robust Rhone red wine we have in the store now - a wine that blows away most $30-$50 "luxury" Gigondas and a whole lot of Chateauneuf!   A blend of Grenache (50%), Syrah (30%), Carignan (10%) and Mourvedre (10%) aged in tank (2/3) and neutral oak (1/3) that perfectly express the terroir of Philippe’s rocky vineyards and 2011’s blend of purity and ripeness. Big aromas of black raspberry, licorice, fresh earth, and roasted meat carry through on the mouth coating palate where hints of lavender and violet emerge.  The focused, generous, flavors push through the explosive finish where firm tannins provide support and raspberry, black cherry, garrigue, seared beef, and licorice flavors go on and on.

La Daurelle has been a staff and customer favorite for years, and the 2011 edition is even more captivating than usual.  It’s perfect to enjoy right now with grilled or roasted meats or most any dish showing a touch of cumin or North African spice, make sure to put some away for later, too.  Expect this to continue to improve for another decade and to give pleasure long after that.  Simply stellar wine and value here.

Rovero Nebbiaia Monferrato Rosso 2011 Product #29320 (In Stock)
Rovero Nebbiaia Monferrato Rosso 2011 Rovero Nebbiaia Monferrato Rosso 2011

A brand new winery to us, but one that's clearly onto something good.  This is 100% Nebbiolo, organically grown in Monferato near Asti.  Big, generous, aromas and flavors of black cherry and plum take center stage with accents of spice and vanilla.  Dusty, rich, tannins give the wine mass and structure, but the fruit just won't quit pumping out from begging to end.  Mouthwatering, long, and - all to rare for Nebbiolo - flat out fun to drink.

Condado De Haza Ribera Del Duero 2011 Product #30619 (In Stock)
Condado De Haza Ribera Del Duero 2011 Condado De Haza Ribera Del Duero 2011

Another great vintage for this Ribera de Duero classic - 100% Tempranillo aged 15 months in new and used American oak.

"Smoke-accented aromas of cherry, blackberry and coconut, with hints of truffle and cured meat in the background. Smooth, sweet and broad in the mouth, offering pliant dark fruit flavors complemented by oak spice and mocha nuances. Gentle tannins build slowly on a long, spicy finish that leaves sweet fruitcake and vanilla notes behind."  Vinous (Reynolds) 90 points

Tegernseerhof Weissenkirchner Zwerthaler 2011 Product #30622 (In Stock)
Tegernseerhof Weissenkirchner Zwerthaler 2011 Tegernseerhof Weissenkirchner Zwerthaler 2011

From a nearly vertical terraced vineyard planted 70-100 years ago, this field blend of Gruner, Riesling, and more will take your breath away.

"This wine is sourced from a field blend of old vines grown on steep slopes behind Weissenkirchen. It has a very crisp character that's tight and mineral in style. Aromatic, spicy, herbal and perfumed, it needs time to open up and is still very young. Drink from 2016."Wine Enthusiast 94 points

Ca Del Baio Barbaresco Cru Vallegrande 2011 Product #30148 (In Stock)
Ca Del Baio Barbaresco Cru Vallegrande 2011 Ca Del Baio Barbaresco Cru Vallegrande 2011

"Bright red cherries, pine, spice and mint are some of the notes that jump from the glass in the 2011 Barbaresco Vallegrande. Floral and lifted in the glass, the 2011 stands out for its nuance and delineation. In this vintage, the Vallegrande retains its essentially perfumed, mid-weight personality."  Vinous (Galloni) 91 points

Quinta Do Noval Late Bottled Vintage 2011 Product #31430 (In Stock)
Quinta Do Noval Late Bottled Vintage 2011 Quinta Do Noval Late Bottled Vintage 2011

Ready to drink to night or cellar for a decade.  Brilliant stuff from the great 2011 harvest.

"The 2011 Unfiltered Late Bottled Vintage Port, a typical Douro blend, was bottled in 2016 with a long cork and 101 grams per liter of residual sugar after five years in barrel. This is brilliant. Sappy, intensely concentrated, remarkably complex and beautifully structured, this young LBV has plenty of room to grow in the cellar, too. It is young, unevolved and capable of development. The complexity that it has now, with a trace of herbs, rhubarb and generally classic Port flavors, is a hallmark, but that will increase and become more varied with age. The tannic pop will also calm a bit more, not that this is undrinkable now. This reeks of potential. Noval is one of my favorite unfiltered LBV producers and this is a fine moment for it. With a few years of bottle age, it might even seem better as it acquires more complexity."Wine Advocate 93 points

Poliziano Merlot Cortona In Violas 2011 Product #30961 (In Stock)
Poliziano Merlot Cortona In Violas 2011 Poliziano Merlot Cortona In Violas 2011

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano producer Poliziano makes this exciting, 100% Merlot, from near-by Cortona.  Ripe fruit plus 16 months in (80% new) French oak gives this a wonderfully plump, round, texture and rich, dark, fruit.  "Very Merlot" on the nose and palate and "Italian" on the mouthwatering finish.

"The 2011 In Violas, Poliziano's Merlot-based red, is a plump, juicy wine to drink now and over the next few years. Succulent dark cherries, plums, spices, menthol and new leather are all nicely delineated. The 2011 is soft, open-knit and quite tasty today."  Vinous (Galloni) 90 points
