Ch Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc 2010 Product #26469 (In Stock)
Ch Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc 2010 Ch Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc 2010

Complex and very, very, long.

"The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc (80% Roussanne and 20% Grenache Blanc vinified in tank) exhibits very good acidity along with a lighter, more delicate style than previous vintages (malolactic is now totally blocked), and restrained orange peel, tangerine oil, white peach, honeysuckle and candle wax notes. This medium to full-bodied, zesty, fresh wine is still backward and unevolved, so cellar it for 1-2 years and drink it over the following 10+."Wine Advocate 90 points

"Juicy up front, with lively star fruit, peach and yellow apple fruit, this turns plush and languid, with alluring grilled hazelnut, sweetened butter and warm piecrust notes filling in on the finish. Sneakily long, thanks to the nicely integrated acidity. Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, Picardan, Clairette and Bourboulenc. Drink now through 2015."Wine Spectator 93 points

Valdicava Brunello Di Montalcino 2009 Product #28252 (In Stock)
Valdicava Brunello Di Montalcino 2009 Valdicava Brunello Di Montalcino 2009

Like 2011, the 2009 harvest was quite warm, yielding softer wines than in 2004 or 2006.  While this 2009s won’t go the 20+ years in cellar that Valdicava usually will, it compensates by being much more open and accessible today.  It’s a rich, deeply flavored, wine that shows the dark fruit, fresh floral, and dark chocolate flavors Valdicava is known for, but in a more silky, elegant, package than usual.  Marvelous wine.

“A silky, fine 2009 Brunello with light berry, chocolate and prune character. Medium to full body. Ultra-fine tannins. A wonderfully crafted Valdicava along the same lines as the excellent 2004. Drink or hold.”  James Suckling 94 points

“Vincenzo Abbruzzese’s 2009 Brunello di Montalcino is a dense and full-bodied rendition that delivers an enormously floral bouquet of crushed rose petal and dried potpourri with background tones of cinnamon stick, root beer and caramelized brown sugar. Past vintages of this wine have shown great power and structure in the mouth, but the 2009 vintage is veiled and nuanced instead. There’s a silky and tight quality to the tannin backed by a long, polished feel. The wine never feels bulky or dense. It will be interesting to see how it evolves, but if you don’t want to wait, it can also be consumed in the near-term. Drink: 2016-2024.”Wine Advocate 92+ points

"A classic Puligny nose is both fresh and ripe with citrus, floral and white-fleshed fruit aromas where there is added nuance in the form of smoke and menthol hints. There is a lovely sense of refinement and energy to the silky and pure middle weight flavors that possess fine precision as well as faultless balance on the lingering finish. Good stuff for a villages level effort."Allen Meadows 89-91 points

"The 2010 Puligny-Montrachet caresses the palate with soft, expressive fruit. This beautiful, open Puligny villages will delight readers pretty much upon release. Sandrone Barolo Le Vigne 2008 Product #26382 (In Stock)
Sandrone Barolo Le Vigne 2008 Sandrone Barolo Le Vigne 2008

"Sandrone’s 2008 Barolo Le Vigne is a wine of breathtaking textural finesse and elegance. Nothing really stands out, so phenomenal is the wine’s balance and sense of harmony. This is the kind of wine that is easy to overlook because it doesn’t ask for attention and isn’t showy. Instead, everything is simply in the right place. The finest, most silky of tannins support a core of sweet red berries, flowers, mint and spices, all of which are woven together with total refinement. The eternal, nuanced finish bodes very well for the future. This is a dazzling effort from Luciano and Luca Sandrone."Wine Advocate 97 points

With all the fuss over the super-ripe 2009s, it's easy to miss out on the classic structure, balance, and charm of bottles like this fine Grand Cru 2008.  This year's model shows off plenty of the animal, earthy, aspect of Corton Renardes but still has a nice core of pretty Pinot fruit.  It's unusually elegant for Corton Renardes, but still packs a punch of powerful flavors and has the perfect balance of fruit, tannin and acid to develop well in cellar for a decade or more.  Or, drink it now with earthy foods and mushrooms!

Grahams Vintage 2011 Port Product #27202 (In Stock)
Grahams Vintage 2011 Port Grahams Vintage 2011 Port

A classic and classy Port with good structure and plenty of length. A bit more sophisticated than Dow if not quite as powerful.

"The 2011 Graham’s comes from the five quintas that have been the source for many years (Malvedos, Tua, Vila Velha, das Lages and Vale de Malhadas). It represents a selection of the 131 pipes from a total production of 1,454 and is a blend of 40% Touriga Nacional, 31% Touriga Franca, 6% Sousao and 23% mixture of very old vines. It has a more “serious” bouquet compared to the Dow, with beguiling scents of blackberry, wild hedgerow, tobacco and cloves. Straight-laced, very well-defined and compelling, the palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins and supremely well-judged acidity. It is utterly harmonious, with a pure core of ripe black cherries, damson, marmalade, clove and spices, and the finish lingers long in the mouth."Wine Advocate 95-97 points

"Offers a decadently fruity aroma, with peppery accents to the cherry, raspberry and dark currant flavors that are lithe and juicy. Grippy tannins grace the mocha- and chocolate-infused finish. Best from 2025 through 2055."Wine Spectator 96 points

Keenan Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Spring Mtn Rsv 2010 Product #28772 (In Stock)
Keenan Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Spring Mtn Rsv 2010 Keenan Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Spring Mtn Rsv 2010

A big young wine that will be better in 5 years (but tempts right now).

"Micheal Keenan has done an incredible job at this Spring Mountain winery over the last 10-15 years, producing one of the finest Cabernet Francs in all of northern California as well as hitting all cylinders with his other Bordeaux varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot as well as his sumptuous blend called Mernet. The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (100% estate Cabernet Sauvignon) screams black currants and blueberries in a full-bodied, fresh, vibrant, high energy style. The color is a deep purple, and the wine possesses brilliant focus, impressive purity and a freshness that belies its power (14.9% alcohol) and concentration. A beauty of elegance and authority, it should drink well for 15-20 years."Wine Advocate 96 points

"Concentrated cherry and blueberry aromas, with accents of potpourri and pungent Moroccan spices. Deep dark fruit flavors possess superb energy and vivacity, with fresh acidity adding bite and lift. The clinging finish shows uncommon intensity, with mounting sweetness and sneaky, harmonious tannins. Here's a wine that transcends the vintage."International Wine Cellar 92-94 points

"This cuvee comes from four parcels of the estate’s oldest vines, and tends to be 80% Grenache, 15% Mourvedre and 5% Syrah. The Grenache is always aged in foudre and the other cepages aged in small oak. The three terroirs include Les Soumades (primarily red clay soils), La Crau, old vines near Chateau Beaucastel, and the terroir after which this estate is named, Janasse, which is primarily clay and limestone covered by the thick carpet of stones known as the galets roules. Achieving 16.5% natural alcohol in 2011 was no easy task, but this wine is not the least bit hot. Full-bodied, intense and opulent, it may be the wine of the vintage, not only in Chateauneuf du Pape, but in all of southern France. This amazing effort transcends the vintage. It is a tribute to the extraordinary viticultural and winemaking perfection/obsession of Christophe and Isabelle Sabon and their father. This black/purple-hued 2011 exhibits lots of cassis, floral, black raspberry and kirsch characteristics as well as potential longevity of 10-15 years or long."Wine Advocate 93-95 points

Bodegas Asenjo & Manso A & M 2006 Product #25792 (In Stock)
Bodegas Asenjo & Manso A & M 2006 Bodegas Asenjo & Manso A & M 2006

A rare “luxury cuvee” that is all about the amazing fruit and not about oaky flash, this is one of the most delicious Tempranillo-based wines I have tasted in  years.  The fruit is from the heart of the vineyard, all from vines planted by Teofilo Asenjo 80 to 100 years ago.  And, while good, the Wine Advocate review undersells the wine by a lot.  Intense, complex, aromas of dark fruit, sweet herb, and cardamom spice get deeper and more layered with air.  In the mouth intensely focused fruit and roasted meat flavors with accents of licorice and balsamic.  Firm, fine, and very long with precise tannin and mouthwatering acidity.  Drink it now with roast lamb or standing rib roast or cellar for even more complexity.  Amazing stuff.

"The flagship 2006 A & M was sourced from 100 year old vines, was fermented with native yeasts, and went through ML in barrel before spending 15 months in French oak. Deep purple in color, it offers up a liqueur-like nose of blackberry, black cherry, sandalwood, mineral, espresso, and lavender. Full-bodied on the palate with outstanding volume and density, this layered, concentrated effort borders on opulence. It has structured to go the distance and should see its 30th birthday in peak shape. Drink 2010-2035.”Wine Advocate 93+ points

Girardin Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 2011 Product #28172 (In Stock)
Girardin Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 2011 Girardin Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 2011

Wow.  Just wow.  A magnificent Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne that impresses now with food but really should sit for 5-6  years.

"An attractively fresh and quite restrained nose offers up an attractively layered and elegant aromas of mineral reduction, Granny Smith apples and white floral aromas. There is outstanding intensity to the detailed, precise and energetic big-bodied flavors that culminate in an explosive and impressively persistent finish. This is one serious and very powerful wine with knockout intensity."Allen Meadows 92-94 points

"Highly nuanced nose offers lime, gunflint, chicken broth, nutmeg, toasted bread and fresh leafy herbs. Thick and glyceral on entry, then large-scaled and full in the middle for Corton-Charlemagne, but with its richness and sweetness leavened by a strong sappy quality. Not an austere style but the wine's biting, rising finish suggests that it will require at least five or six years of cellaring."International Wine Cellar 92-95 points

This is notably riper with even more complex and very fresh aromas of spiced plum and an intense earthiness that also characterizes the delicious, dense and very serious flavors that also exhibit a high degree of phenolic maturity. You’ve only got a little while to grab some of this stunning, 30 year-old Port, because there are only 2 cases to go around – and it’s taking all of my willpower not to take it all home myself! A Tawny-style port, all from the 1982 vintage, that aged in barrel until being bottled in late 2013.  The dominant theme here is caramel coated walnut with variations ranging from candied orange peel to crystalized rose petal, sugar-dusted dried currant, rich toffee, sweet spice and more.  Every sip rings in a new tune.  Even with all the richness, this glides across your palate weightlessly and the sweet, nutty, finish clings in your mouth endlessly.  Amazing wine to share (or hoard for yourself!).

En Numeros Vermells Classic Priorat Negre 1.5l 2012 Product #28387 (In Stock)
En Numeros Vermells Classic Priorat Negre 1.5l 2012 En Numeros Vermells Classic Priorat Negre 1.5l 2012

This is one of the two or three most exciting wines we'll bring you all year - now in magnum for even more fun.  Winemaker Silvia Puig is best known for her award-winning work at Priorat's Vinedos de Ithaca.  For the past few vintages, though, she's been making ultra-small lots of wine in her garage from select old vine sites across the region. When importer Jonas Gustafsson showed us the 2011 Classic Priorat last year, we snapped up (and quickly sold through) every bottle we could get.  And, we immeidately sent out a plea to Silvia for more of the new vintage.

Here it is.  Silvia made just 540 bottles - not cases, bottles! - of this luxurious blend of Garnacha Negre and Garnacha Peluda (“Hairy Grenache”) plus Syrah and Carignan, all aged in new Berthomieu Ermitage barrels (the best French oak money can buy) until Silvia decides it's ready to bottle.  The aromas suggest a top vintage of Clos Mogador - super-ripe raspberry, dark chocolate, exotic flowers, black licorice, and North African spice show in the inky, intense, nose.   In the mouth, it's dark and intense with black raspberry, black plum, licorice, chocolate, and Christmas pudding flavors lifted by a note of juicy blueberry from the Carignan and Syrah.  Still very supple and poised, with a fine minerality and chewy, ripe, tannins under the blue/black fruited finish that turns floral at the very end.

This is simply stunning stuff, and anyone who loves Priorat or the very, very, best of Chateauneuf-du-Pape should stock up to enjoy it now with a little air or even more over the next 15+ years. The price is rock solid for the quality.  But, even though we purchased 45% of Silvia's  total production (and about half the magnums), there's not much to go around.  Grab it now.
