Haden Fig Chardonnay Willamette Valley Juliette 2012 Product #29561 (In Stock)
Haden Fig Chardonnay Willamette Valley Juliette 2012 Haden Fig Chardonnay Willamette Valley Juliette 2012

Erin Nuccio made just 3.5 barrels of this elegant, Burgundy-style, Chardonnay in the great 2012 Oregon harvest and named it for his daughter, Juliette.  Barrel fermented and aged for 18 months on the lees (but with no stirring), it opens with complex aromas of green apple, toasted nuts, and a hint of butter.  Then, you'll find layered flavors of citrus, lemon curd, Granny Smith, and hazelnut.  Creamy textured but crisp and nutty on the vivid finish.  Give it a big swirl or even a short decant and watch it unfurl!

Ransom Vermouth Dry Nv Product #27503 (In Stock)
Ransom Vermouth Dry Nv Ransom Vermouth Dry Nv

Oregon's Ransom brings us this unique Vermouth made with Pinot and a mix of other aromatic white varietals.  On the nose, it's got a little more ginger and vanilla character than most other dry Vermouths we've tried.  On the palate, that ginger kick continues, and it's got a tart, snappy finish that comes out even more when mixed with a little fizzy water.  A great addition to fall cocktails!

Denis Carre is an exciting, if still somewhat under the radar - Cote de Beaune winemaker that you are going to want to get to know.  This lovely Savigny-les-Beaune from old vines delivers both deep, earthy, richness and vivid, bright, freshness.  Aromas of black and red cherry, fresh earth, and warm spice get more generous and full with air.  The flavors start off earthy and meaty with sweet cherry, cranberry, and raspberry fruit emerging and firm tannins turning sweet and supple.  Decant and drink now with duck or red meat and let some soften and gain more sweetness over the next 5 years.

Vista Hills Pinot Noir Marylhust 2012 Vista Hills Pinot Noir Marylhust 2012

Another tiny production, distinctive, and very fine value Pinot Noir from this under-the-radar estate in the Willamette Valley's Dundhee Hills.  Marylhurst is all Dijon clone (115 and 667) from the estate's oldest vines, delivering the power and intenstity to handle 18 months in 20% new French oak.  Earth and spice are the themes here, with dark cherry, Damson plum, and cranberry fruit framed by deep, dark, earth notes and accents of cinnamon and toast. Generous right now, this is a fine bottle to enjoy with grilled salmon or roast pork.

Mas Estela Just Dolc Negre (500ml) Product #25259 (In Stock)
Mas Estela Just Dolc Negre (500ml) Mas Estela Just Dolc Negre (500ml)

Here’s a wildly delicious sweet red from one of our favorite artisanal producers in Catalonia.  This is 100% old vine Black Garnacha, organically grown and harvested late for super ripeness.  After fermentation (which leaves plenty of sugar), the wine seeps on its skins for 60+ days and then ages for a year in glass demi-johns – outside in the sun, wind, and cold.  The result is a lush mouthful of crushed black raspberry fruit with plenty of coffee and cocoa accents and a finish that goes on forever.

Thibault Liger-belair Moulin A Vent Vieilles Vignes 2012 Thibault Liger-belair Moulin A Vent Vieilles Vignes 2012

"The 2012 Moulin-à-Vent Vieilles Vignes is a blend of fruit from 7 parcels, all planted mid-slope. Savory herbs, new leather, licorice and graphite all add complexity to the dark fruit. The style is deep, intense and explosive. This is another super-impressive showing from Thibault Liger-Belair." Antonio Galloni 91-93 points

"The 2012 Moulin-a-Vents Vieilles Vignes is a blend of seven parcels with loess and sandy soils, the vines ranging from 65 to 85 years in age. It has a very sensual bouquet with wild strawberry, orange sorbet and apricot scents – such brightness and luminosity here. The palate is crisp and fresh on the entry with a fine backbone and very good precision on the finish. This is a sensual Beaujolais wine with real class."Wine Advocate 90-92 points

Miner Chardonnay Napa Valley 2013 Product #29820 (In Stock)
Miner Chardonnay Napa Valley 2013 Miner Chardonnay Napa Valley 2013

A nice, rich, Napa Valley Chardonnay that's big enough to handle opulent foods and fresh enough to enjoy on its own.  From vineyards across Napa, this ages in 45% new and 55% neutral French oak with malolactic fermentation blocked for half the wine.  The aromas and texture are creamy and rich, with ripe pear, yellow apple, and tropical fruit notes accented by dashes of toasted nut, sweet spice, and butter.  Buttery caramelized pear tart flavors linger as just the right squirt of citrusy acids keep things fresh.  A classic, fun, bottle of Napa Chardonnay.

Dom d'Eole Coteaux d'Aix en Provence Cuvee Lea 2009 Product #29856 (In Stock)
Dom d'Eole Coteaux d'Aix en Provence Cuvee Lea 2009 Dom d'Eole Coteaux d'Aix en Provence Cuvee Lea 2009

Winemaker Matthias Wimmer and estate owner Christian Raimont make this stunner from certified organic Grenache (55%) and Syrah (45%) grapes grown at the foot of the Alpilles mountains in central Provence.  The low yield grapes (about 33% of the legal maximum) ferments slowly in cement vat for 18 days before aging 12 months in barrel and 6 more back in concrete before bottling.

You know the 2009 Lea is powerful from first sight of the intense, glass-staining, purple/black color.  The aromas are massive, too, with scents of dark blueberry, black plum, black currant, and smoky meat jumping from the glass.  With air, notes of licorice, black olive and crushed Provençal herb emerge and carry over to the rich, high-impact, palate to accent flavors of roasted black fruit, toasted spice, and meat juices.  The flavors build on the back-palate before exploding on the long, powerful, finish where firm tannins lie underneath pulsating flavors of dark fruit, roasting meat, licorice, and herb.  Remarkably fresh and even refreshing for all the richness, this is already a fine companion for grilled lamb or herb-rubbed pork and will comfort with cassoulet for years to come.

Tyler Chardonnay Zotovich Family Vyd Sta. Rita Hills 2012 Product #30255 (In Stock)
Tyler Chardonnay Zotovich Family Vyd Sta. Rita Hills 2012 Tyler Chardonnay Zotovich Family Vyd Sta. Rita Hills 2012

Just 8 cases available of this 150 or so case cuvee from sandy soils in the northern part of the Santa Rita Hills.  About 20% new oak adds richness and a touch of toast to the spiced pear and apple fruit.  Fun to drink right now and even better at table with seafood, poultry, and more.

"Green-tinged yellow. An assertively perfumed bouquet shows Meyer lemon, quince and honeydew, with ginger and jasmine touches adding lift and complexity. Taut, minerally and sharply focused, offering powerful orange zest and yellow apple flavors given spine by juicy acidity. Finishes sappy, spicy and very long, leaving notes of ripe pear and white pepper on the aftertaste."  Vinous (Reynolds) 93 points

"Justin Willett continues to knock it out of the park with these new releases, and few people in the Central Coast are doing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay better than this guy. These all lean toward the more focused, energetic end of the spectrum, yet they have solid mid-palate depth, vibrant fruit and classy profiles that keep you coming back to the glass. The 2012 Chardonnay Zotovich Vineyard comes from beach sand-like soils and has a structured, medium-bodied and layered feel on the palate. Showing plenty of mint, leafy herbs, mineral water and clean stone fruits, it builds nicely in the glass, has vibrant, beautifully defined aromas and flavors and a seamless texture. Enjoy this beauty over the coming 3-5 years."Wine Advocate 94 points

Chappellet Chardonnay Napa Valley 2013 Product #29476 (In Stock)
Chappellet Chardonnay Napa Valley 2013 Chappellet Chardonnay Napa Valley 2013

Chappellet has been turning out benchmark Cabernet Sauvignon from its vineyards high on Prichard Hill for 40 years now, but it's their Napa Valley Chardonnay that's won the most fans here over the years.  The 2013 is made by blending fruit from cool vineyards near San Pablo Bay, the Napa side of Carneros, and a little from Oak Knoll just above Carneros.  It's barrel fermented and aged on the lees for creamy richness, but only one-third sees new wood and a bit more than half goes through malolactic fermentation (so the wine stays crisp and fresh).

California's 2013 harvest is shaping up to be an outstanding vintage, and Chardonnay's like this one show you why. The aromas are concentrated and generous, with scents of orange zest, pear, apple, lemon drop and pretty accents of baking spice and vanilla from the oak.  In the mouth, it delivers a lush mouthfull of peach and apple fruit with a good dose of lemon custard, creme fraiche, and sweet spice.  The finish is clean, bright, and focused with nice apple-like acidity and notes of toast and ginger lingering nicely.  This will actually flesh out and get even better over the next few years, although there's certainly no reason to not enjoy it right now!  Steal of a price, too.

Guigal Saint Joseph Rouge 2012 Product #30187 (In Stock)
Guigal Saint Joseph Rouge 2012 Guigal Saint Joseph Rouge 2012

As always, a sophisticated St. Joseph with good fruit and plenty of smoky, mineral, complexity.

"Fresh black raspberry, cherry and floral aromas are complicated by a spicy nuance. Silky and seamless on the palate, offering intense red and dark berry flavors that gain weight and power with air. The floral element comes back strong on the finish, which features supple tannins and a hint of spicecake. Distinctly elegant and in a "city style, not rustic," as Philippe Guigal put it."  Vinous (Reynolds) 90 points

"As good, if not better, than the 2011, the 2012 Saint Joseph has lots of ripeness in its sexy black fruits, chocolate, vanilla and smoked meat aromas and flavors. I suspect that by the time this sees the inside of a bottle, the oak will have integrated and it will show a more classic profile. Medium to full-bodied, textured and nicely concentrated, it too will have a decade or more prime drinking."Wine Advocate 90-92 points

"Nicely focused, with a tangy savory note up front, followed by olive, bay and dark cherry flavors. The sanguine-edged finish has good cut. Drink now through 2017."Wine Spectator 90 points

Dow's 10 Year Tawny Port Product #7247 (In Stock)
Dow's 10 Year Tawny Port Dow's 10 Year Tawny Port

Dow’s winemakers pick lots every vintage to go into the Tawny Port program.  The finished Port goes into large barrels and ages slowly, gradually acquiring a nutty, caramel, character and gaining an orangey/tawny color.  Dow’s 10-Year Tawny is made from a blend of these ports that are average approximately 10 years of age - although the “10-Year” designation indicates style more than actual wine age.  Dow’s 10-Year Tawny is a classic - orange peel, caramel, honey, nuts, and dried fig flavors swirl around a hint of red berry fruit.  Once again, the classic Dow dry finish keeps the wine refreshing.

As Burghound sais, this is just classic Chassagne Rouge that is enjoyable right now (decant for an hour) and will be at peak in 2018 or so.  Decant the wine, roast a chicken, and be very happy.

"An expressive, even perfumed nose features notes of pepper, red currant, cassis and plenty of pungent earth character that can also be found on the supple, round and agreeably vibrant middle weight flavors. There is good intensity and lovely detail to the moderately firm and rustic finish that is both well-balanced and persistent. A classic Chassagne rouge."Allen Meadows 89 points

En Numeros Vermells Priorat AiAiAi 2013 Product #28988 (In Stock)
En Numeros Vermells Priorat AiAiAi 2013 En Numeros Vermells Priorat AiAiAi 2013

“AiAiAi” is the kind of thing you say with a smile when something surprising happens, and tasting a young Priorat this plump, accessible, satisfying and delicious at prices like these is certainly worth an exclamation and a smile!  Silvia Puig’s newest wine from the ENV project is wonderfully fun, but anything but simple.  It’s a blend of Garnacha (about half), Carignan (about 40%) and dashes of Syrah and Merlot aged in barrel and tank.  And, from first sniff and sip through shaking the last drops from the bottle, it’s pure joy.

The aromas are festive, with dark blue/black fruit – blueberry, blackberry, raspberry – accented by notes of wet slate, crushed mint and cocoa.  The flavors lay down more of the dark but fresh berry fruit and mint flavors with layers and layers of cocoa, fresh earth, and licorice accents. Pop and pour if you like it  more creamy, decant if you want more layers, or just leave the recorked bottle on the counter overnight (as I did!) to get maximum fruit and spice.  A great, warming, bottle of festive red to drink now with Holiday feasts or anytime over the next 5 years.  AiAiAi indeed!

Bonny Doon Le Cigare Volant 2010 Product #29243 (In Stock)
Bonny Doon Le Cigare Volant 2010 Bonny Doon Le Cigare Volant 2010

Back in 1983, Randall was searching for a name to use with his first release of a homage to Chateauneuf du Pape from Central Coast.  Drawing inspiration from a Chateauneuf du Pape municipal ordinance forbidding flying saucers from landing in the local vineyards, he hit upon “Le Cigare Volant,” the French term for UFOs.  If you look at the label closely, you’ll notice the cigar-shaped spacecraft beaming up Chateauneuf grapes – and, certainly, a big mouthful of those flavors have landed here!

"Distinct crushed lava rock aromas meet with dust, cinnamon, cola and Dr Pepper on this blend of 28% Syrah, 22% Grenache, 17% Cinsault, 17% Mourvèdre and 16% Carignane. Light red fruits of cranberry and slight strawberry show on the palate that dives into serious tannins quickly."Wine Enthusiast 90 points
