- Anton Bauer Gruner Veltliner Gmork 2014 Product #29889 (In Stock)
The Gmörk vineyard lies on loess and gravel soils in Austria’s excellent Wagram region. There’s plenty of sunny warmth in this South-facing site, so the fruit ripens beautifully. But the nearby Danube river channels cool air down from the Northwest, slowing the growing cycle and letting the grapes develop extra flavor and aroma while retaining fine freshness and acidity. Anton has all the grapes harvested by hand at the peak of ripeness, even taking on the extra cost of making multiple passes through the vineyard when necessary. It’s hard work and the kind of expense you rarely see in a Grüner intended to sell for under $20.
2014 was a tough vintage in most of Austria, but with careful work in the vineyard and winery, the folks at Anton Bauer were able to produce a vibrant, fresh Gruner for us to enjoy all fall long. Aromas of pear, green peach, and wet stone invite you to take a sip and enjoy the juicy acidity and hint of Gruner's signature white pepper on the finish.
"A subtle nose of lemon leads to a chorus of zesty, citrusy freshness: rind of lemon, grapefruit and mandarin make for a streamlined, concentrated and incredibly refreshing palate with a tangy moreishness. The purity of this wine shines. This is lovely now but will develop through 2020."Wine Enthusiast 91 points
- Anton Bauer Pinot Noir Reserve 2013 Product #30318 (In Stock)
How do you follow up a Wine Enthusiast 96 point 2012 Wagram Pinot? With an even better 2013! Kind of a Willamette Valley meets Sonoma Coast experience here, with just a touch of Burgundy, too. Deep aromas of black raspberry, cherry, smoke, underbrush, and more soar from the glass. On the palate, rich and silken in texture, with complex fruit, earth, smoke and spice flavors and a long, pure, finish. Drink it with mushrooms, duck, or lamb or just on its own.
