- Baer Chardonnay "Shard" Washington 2011 Product #26604 (In Stock)
No oak here, but tons and tons of flavor. Just 390 cases made of this wine that starts with pristine fruit fermented in stainless steel and then made creamier by regular lees stirring. Aromas and flavors of heirloom apples and orchard fruits shine here with an intriguing savory note weaving in and out as well. Clean, crisp, and a little creamy with a hint of salty caramel on the long, juicy, finish. Fine stuff.
"Subdued aromas of peach, nut meats and mint, plus a hint of crab apple. Supple, rich and broad, with good chewy extract to the stone fruit and spice flavors. Finishes saline, tactile and persistent. I certainly don't miss the oak."International Wine Cellar 89 points
- Baer Ursa Columbia Valley Red 2009 Product #25937 (In Stock)
Like the Star, this was created as a tribute to Right Bank Bordeaux, but where Star is in a more lush, Pomerol, style, Ursa ups the Cabernet Franc content to 44% and shows the greater detail and structure you'd expect from a top Saint Emilion. With nearly 1,000 cases made, this is Baer's top production red wine and a worthy flagship for the brand.
"(44% cabernet franc, 38% merlot and 9% each cabernet sauvignon and malbec): Good deep, bright ruby-red. Explosive aromas of black raspberry, mocha, smoke and tobacco. Sweet, seamless and shapely, with thoroughly ripe, complex flavors of plum, currant, leather and mocha. In a powerful style but not overly sweet. Finishes with lively blueberry and boysenberry fruit and building tannins. This lovely blend avoids the liqueur-like quality shown by many 2009 reds."International Wine Cellar 93 points
"Firm in texture, this elegant wine has a lithe core of black cherry, raspberry and floral flavors that extend into the long and inviting finish. Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2014 through 2019. 981 cases made."Wine Spectator 92 points
- Baer Arktos Columbia Valley 2009 Product #27709 (In Stock)
As the Left-Bank, Cabernet Sauvignon-featured, wine in the portfolio, it's not surprising that Baer's other two reds were more generous and impressive on release (when the critics tasted them). But now that it's had a little time, this has become even more impressive with detailed flavors and a fine, firm, texture. Only 391 cases made - put a few down in your cellar and watch it grow!
"Black raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, clove oil and chocolate on the very ripe nose and palate. Shows a more refined texture than the Callisto but still quite youthfully closed in spite of its mid-palate lushness. Very ripe but not a particularly sweet style. Finishes with building dusty tannins and noteworthy persistence."International Wine Cellar 91 points
"A refined style, with meaty cherry and dried herb aromas and flavors on a lithe frame, persisting against crisp tannins. This has deft balance and lingers impressively. Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Best from 2014 through 2019."Wine Spectator 91 points
