- Catena Chardonnay Mendoza 2013 375ml Product #30013 (In Stock)
Half Bottle Always a delicious value, the 2013 Catena Chardonnay may just be the best ever. A blend of oaked and tank-aged wine, it crackles with fantastic fresh apple, pear, peach and pineapple fruit framed by notes of crushed mint and toasted hazlenut. The vivid fruit pumps on through the juicy finish where Burgundy-like minerality and creamy toast notes linger. Fantastic stuff.
"The Catena 2013 Chardonnay mixes grapes form Agrelo (15%) and the rest from different zones in the Uco Valley (Tupungato and San Carlos, Eugenio Bustos and Altamira). 50% of the wine fermented in used oak barriques, 10% in new 500-liter French oak barrels and the rest in stainless steel. Part of the barrels go through malolactic fermentation, but not all. 2013 feels ripe despite the character of the vintage, and although the oak is a lot less noticeable than in previous vintages it provides creaminess that makes it approachable and easy. The palate is soft and the acidity is quite integrated with the fruit. An approachable, nice Chardonnay."Wine Advocate 90 points
- Catena Chardonnay Mendoza 2014 Product #30773 (In Stock)
Perhaps the greatest vintage ever for this Mendoza classic.
"The 2014 Chardonnay is a blend of three vineyards. The vineyards are divided into lots that are harvested at different times: Agrelo at 3,117 foot elevation, Villa Bastías at 3,675 foot elevation and Gualtallary at 4,757 foot elevation. Each vineyard is vinified differently and aged separately. The wines are blended at the end before bottling. The nose is subtly oaked with white fruit and floral aromas. The palate is medium-bodied and has very nice acidity which makes the wine not only fresher, but also longer and more mineral. This is the freshest of all the vintages of this Chardonnay, and the change in vineyards is really noticeable. Super! 350,000 bottles produced."Wine Advocate 92 points
- Catena Malbec Mendoza 2013 Product #30312 (In Stock)
Argentina's most reliable Malbec has been delicious for so many years in a row that it's all too easy to pass over. Don't - it's excellent!
"As I saw with the Cabernet, the 2013 Catena Malbec also feels fresher than the 2012. It is produced with fruit from Valle de Uco and some 20% from the Luján de Cuyo zone that fermented in a mixture of cement and stainless steel, and partly matured in barrels for some 10 months. The nose is full of violets and black cherries, and is quite perfumed. The palate has lively acidity that makes it extremely fresh, long, pleasant and easy to dink, and it cleanses your palate with the mineral-driven finish. A textbook Malbec to buy by the case. Drink or keep. This has to be one of the best vintages of this popular Malbec. The production figures are mind-boggling, as there are over one million bottles of this wine, so it should be quite easy to find."
