Ch Montelena Zinfandel Estate 2010 Product #26969 (In Stock)
Ch Montelena Zinfandel Estate 2010 Ch Montelena Zinfandel Estate 2010

From the winery famous for California's breakthrough Chardonnay and classic Cab, this is an elegant, almost European, take on Zinfandel.  Aromas of bright plum, boysenberry,  and dried fruit with accents of spice and coconut.  Firm acid and ripe tannins frame blackberry and red-berry fruit with a meaty hint of hoisin and soy.  Notes of walnut and smoked meat hide under the richly fruity, long, finish.

Ch Montelena Cabernet Napa 2011 Ch Montelena Cabernet Napa 2011

As you'd expect, the 2011 edition of this Napa classic is a touch more elegant and perfumed than 2010, with classic aromas of dried cherry, redcurrant, licorice, dried flowers and mint.  A middle-weight Cab this vintage, but with lovely floral-accented fruit and spice and soft, silky, tannins.  Ready to enjoy right now with lean beef (think filet) or lamb loin chops or just to sip by itself.

Ch Montelena Chardonnay Napa 2011 Product #28199 (In Stock)
Ch Montelena Chardonnay Napa 2011 Ch Montelena Chardonnay Napa 2011

If you saw the movie Bottle Shock, then you know some of the story behind this pioneering California Chardonnay (and, you “know” some things that aren’t really true as well – yes, the wine did turn yellow, but no, they never actually tried to throw it out!).  The 1973 Montelena Chardonnay that placed first in the 1976 Judgment of Paris was Jim Barrett’s third vintage, and this 40th Anniversary release shows that the Barrett family hasn’t lost a step.

Montelena’s Chardonnay has always been a bit “Burgundian” in style (which probably helped in 1976!), so it’s surprising that in the cool 2011 vintage, Bo’s son Jim Barrett would deliver one of the richest, most luscious, Montelena Chardonnays ever.  Like a fine Burgundy, this will be better in a few years although it sings right now with rich, creamy, dishes and after a 30 minute spell in decanter.

"Bright, pale lemon-yellow. Crisp aromas of apple, citrus peel and white peppery, along with a light metallic quality. The palate offers bracing lemon zest and grapefruit pith flavors and strong acidity yet comes across as silky and tactile at the same time. Cool and spicy, but with a surprisingly glyceral quality for the year. The youthfully edgy finish suggests that this wine will need serious patience."International Wine Cellar 90 points

"The 2011 Chardonnay appears to have more richness and body than the 2010, which is counterintuitive considering the cool year, but in 2011 Bo Barrett and his team had to wait until the end of October for this fruit to fully ripen, which, needless to say, is highly unusual. The characteristic Montelena Chardonnay aromas and flavors come through, but in a slightly richer style than normal. Hints of lemon oil, crushed rocks and flowers meld together beautifully on the resonant finish. Barrett adds that the 2011 was the first wine made in the new cellar, which is set up to handle small-lot fermentations. Whatever the reasons, the 2011 is striking in every way. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025."Wine Advocate 93 points
