- Clos Du Caillou Chateauneuf Du Pape Les Safres 2009 Product #28002 (In Stock)
With a couple of extra years in bottle, this is drinking beautifully right now and makes a great match for roasted meats, ratatouille, or earthy washed rind cheeses. You can certainly age it further – but why wait?
"Bright red. Very fresh and intensely aromatic, projecting scents of red berries, lavender and spices, along with a hint of white pepper. Juicy and incisive, offering nervy strawberry and raspberry flavors lifted by a zesty spice nuance. This silky, seamless, lithe Chateauneuf finishes with impressive clarity and snap and might well pass for a ripe New World pinot noir."International Wine Cellar 91 points
"This modestly sized estate of just under 25 acres in the northeastern sector of Chateauneuf du Pape has been run by Sylvie Vacheron since her husband’s tragic death in 2002. The dark plum/ruby/purple-tinged 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Safres is showing better from bottle than it did last year from barrel. Reveals classic notes of herbes de Provence, cherry jam and lavender in a full-bodied, opulent, sexy, open-knit style typical of many 2009s. This broad, rich Chateauneuf is ideal for drinking over the next 10-12 years."Wine Advocate 91 points
- Clos Du Caillou Chateauneuf Du Pape Les Safres 2010 Product #26572 (In Stock)
"This estate, which encompasses considerable acreage, produces Cotes du Rhones and Chateauneuf du Papes. It has nearly 25 acres in the former appellation as well as a remarkable 42 acres in the actual clos (or walled vineyard) of Caillou. Part of that is only 500 meters from the Rayas vineyard. The cellars and the clos are located in the eastern/northeastern sector of the appellation. The vineyards have been biodynamically farmed since 2003, and Domaine du Caillou is one of the reference points for Chateauneuf du Pape as well as Cotes du Rhone. The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Safres (100% Grenache aged in foudre) comes from a lieu-dit called Les Bedines. Exhibiting a dense ruby/purple color, super ripe fruit and a deep, full-bodied, layered style, it may be the finest Les Safres offering I have yet tasted. Drink it over the next 10-15 years." "Offers gorgeous feel and purity, with a caressing, velvety edge to the bright, vivid linzer torte, blackberry pâte de fruit and plum sauce flavors. The long, sleek finish lets incense and toasted spice notes flitter through, with good latent grip. Best from 2013 through 2023. 949 cases made."Wine Spectator 94 points
