- Damilano Nebbiolo Langhe Marghe 2011 Product #27970 (In Stock)
The past three vintages of this “baby Barolo” have impressed, and the 2011 edition keeps that string going. Sixteen months in small barrel (mostly used) soften Nebbiolo’s hard edges without diminishing the pure fruit and secondary flavors delivered by 30-50 year-old vines. If you don’t mind a bit of grip, you can drink this on its own right now, but it will really sing with any dish loaded with earthy mushroom, duck, or roast pork dishes. Value here is pretty staggering.
"Damilano's 2011 Langhe Nebbiolo Marghe blossoms in the glass with a generous, inviting melange of dark red and black fruits, cloves and new leather. The precocious vintage has filled out the Marghe nicely, adding considerable volume, texture and depth. There is a lot to like in this serious, expressive Nebbiolo." Antonio Galloni 88 points
"The 2011 Langhe Nebbiolo Marghe is a terrific wine that shows the bright intensity of the Nebbiolo grape framed by fresh notes of cherry fruit, rosebud, polished stone and licorice. The wine goes down easily and refreshes the palate thanks to its balanced acidity. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2016."Wine Advocate 88 points
- Damilano Barolo Lecinquevigne 2009 Product #28042 (In Stock)
An utterly compelling Barolo from 30-50 year old vines, aged 80% in classic large cask and 20% in small barrel (used) for polish and softness. Blended from 5 top vineyards in Barolo, Verduno, Grinzane Cavour, La Morra and Novello, this outshines many much higher priced 2009 Barolo. It will age easily for a decade+, but it's in the window right now with rich foods or truffles.
"Damilano's 2009 Barolo Lecinquevigne boasts serious depth and intensity. Dark cherry, plum, spices, mocha, menthol, tar and licorice meld together in a rich, powerful, intense entry-level wine. This is a fabulous effort for the year. The 2009 shows great intensity of color and fruit, with beautifully balanced, harmonious tannins. All in all, this is a terrific showing." Antonio Galloni 91 points
"Moderately saturated medium red. Inviting aromas of strawberry, espresso, mocha, earth and mellow oak. Supple, lush and seamless, with spicy red berry flavors complicated by sexy truffley underbrush. Mellow and attractive Barolo with impressive sweetness of fruit and a fine dusting of tannins that will not get in the way of early enjoyment."International Wine Cellar 91 points
- Damilano Barolo Cannubi 2006 Product #25940 (In Stock)
As seductive a young Cru Barolo as we've seen from 2006. Sure, it wants a decade, but decant it for an hour and you'll be blown away tonight!
"Cerequio. Brunate. Cannubi. These are the Italian equivalents of Musigny, Bonnes Mares and Chambertin; in other words, among the most precious vineyards anywhere in the world. Damilano’s 2006 Barolo Cannubi emerges from the glass with surprising richness and weight. Berries, flowers and spices flow effortlessly from this rich, textured Cannubi. The wine shows quite a bit more depth than is usually the case for a vineyard that tends towards the feminine, but the textural elegance and silkiness on the mid-palate and finish serve to provide a sense of proportion. Fine, elegant tannins frame the close. This is another fine effort from Damilano. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2026."Wine Advocate 92 points
"Starts out supple, with the smooth texture framing black cherry, bitter almond and licorice notes. A firm base of tannins is offset by sweet fruit, as this glides to a lingering aftertaste of tobacco, spice and cherry. Best from 2013 through 2032."Wine Spectator 94 points
- Damilano Barolo Brunate 2006 Product #25941 (In Stock)
"The 2006 Barolo Brunate shows the masculine personality of this site in its dark fruit, minerals, menthol and spices. Today the wine is very much closed in on itself, but the fruit and perfume should emerge as the tannins soften. This is a commendable effort that falls short of being truly inspiring, a shame considering how precious Brunate is. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026."Wine Advocate 92 points
"A wiry, angular red, awkward today, yet revealing a core of cherry, strawberry, rubber and tobacco flavors. This is vibrant, settling down on the lingering finish and echoing spice and leather accents. Best from 2014 through 2032."Wine Spectator 92 points
