Since its formation in 1848, Duval-Leroy has grown to top-tier levels in Champagne, but remains family-owned and managed. The house style emphasizes elegance and grace over power and pure force, with Chardonnay usually accounting for 80-90% of this wine’s blend. For the past 10 years or so, Duval-Leroy has moved from strength-to-strength, with two appearances in the Wine Spectator Top 100 in the past 5 years.
The newest release of Duval-Leroy’s main wine – the Brut Champagne – is easily the best of the past 3-4 years. There’s plenty of concentration and depth to the wine, but the main theme here is elegance. Mouthfilling, but bright, accessible but complex, immediately appealing but worthy of attention, at this price it’s hard to imagine a better value in “real” Champagne for New Year’s!“An elegant wine, with a delicate grain and subtle, citrusy acidity.
