- Vajra Langhe Rosso 2011 Product #27989 (In Stock)
One of our favorite Barolo estates makes this blend of Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Barbera with tiny bits of Albarossa, Freisa and Pinot Noir just for fun! And, "fun" is the operative word here, in a wine that's bursting with strawberry, red plum, and juicy raspberry fruit. Notes of black pepper and Asian spice add some complexity and there's just enough polished Nebbiolo tannin to give it shape. Fantastic purity, zesty acidity, and plenty of luscious fruit make this pretty sophisticated, but mainly just delicious and, well, fun!
- Vajra Barolo Albe 2010 Product #28670 (In Stock)
Always one of the greatest values in Barolo, the 2010 Albe is a touch more serious in both style and price than the simply silly value 2007. As , Giuseppe Vajra told us during a visit to the shop, his father, Aldo Vajra, is committed to making the Barolo Albe an “important wine you can reach for on a Tuesday night.” This needs 3 years to come together and then will sing for a decade.
“The 2010 Barolo Albe has begun to close down in bottle. Today, the tannins dominate over the fruit, although from time to time the wine's personality begins to emerge. Rose petal, mint, sage and licorice meld together in a supple, racy Barolo endowed with both tons of near-term appeal and the potential to develop beautifully in bottle. The Albe is one of the very finest Barolos in its price range.” Antonio Galloni 93+ points
“Intense floral scents of freshly cut roses and wild violets jump out of the glass. On the palate, dark cherry and crushed cherry twine with allspice, cinnamon, clove, leather and alpine herbs. All are partnered by assertive but supple tannins and fresh acidity. Best 2015–2030.”Wine Enthusiast 94 points
