As much as we love Argentina's straight Malbec wines, they can get even better with the help of a blending partner. In the Los Ailos, Syrah plays that role, taking what would have been a pleasant, juicy, red to a whole new level of richness and flavor.
The 2011 Los Ailos Syrah/Malbec opens with pretty aromas of ripe cherry and black plum. Then, in the mouth, it's ripe and juicy with plenty of fresh black fruit, a little leather, and a nice touch of minerality. It's balanced and fresh with a fine spread of ripe tannin on the back promising good things at table. Very nice value.
