As always, the folks at Talley do a fine job with their "no oak" Bishop's Peak program. As they explain, "One of the coolest summers on record resulted in long hang time and grapes with high natural acidity. The resulting wines balance refreshing acidity with concentrated flavors due to the low yields. This chardonnay has a refreshing bouquet of green apple, guava, citrus zest and white flowers. The fresh fruit theme continues on the palate with bright flavors of pear and pineapple." No oak and no malo mean this is fresh and crisp.

Another fine, elegant, bottle of Talley Pinot Noir from the cool Edna Valley. A bit broader than the 2009, but still very pure.
"Talley remains one of the great estates in California that has yet to be fully discovered. As a result, prices remain exceedingly fair considering the quality of what goes into the bottle. Stylistically, Talley prefers the more taut, mineral side of Chardonnay, while the Pinots tend to emphasize perfume over sheer size. Talley’s 2010 Pinot Noir Stone Corral Vineyard boasts a deep, serious core of dark cherries, tar and spices. This is an especially large-scaled, broad-shouldered wine from Talley. Layers of fruit build to the extroverted, flashy finish. The richness of the fully destemmed fruit comes through in spades."Wine Advocate 92 points
