- Vina Robles Red4 2012 Product #29218 (In Stock)
It’s not entirely clear how a couple of guys of Swiss heritage created one of Paso Robles’ most exciting young wine estates. Swiss native Hans Nef spent a couple of years looking for vineyard in California before deciding to buy an scrubby property dotted with oak trees in the Central Coast’s Paso Robles region in 1996. Fellow Swiss native Matthias Gubler joined in 1999 and made Vina Robles’s first vintage that year.
Nef and Gubler motto – “European Inspiration – California Character” describes their entry-level Red4 blend perfectly. New label, same robust blend of Petite Sirah, Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre, same big flavors and soft, plush, texture. The Petite Sirah gives the wine a solid core of blackberry and black plum fruit while the Syrah adds smoky, meaty, elements. Grenache adds red fruit and spice while the Mourvedre provides and earthy base note. At just under 14%, this is big but not heavy; a winner.
