- White Rock Vineyards Chardonnay Napa 2011 Product #28230 (In Stock)
What would become White Rock Winery was founded in 1870 when Dr. J. Pettingill finished building a winery from the soft white rock in Napa’s Soda Canyon and planted his first Chardonnay vines. When the Vandendriessche family arrived in 1977, they didn’t modernize much. They expanded the quary site into a 6,000 square foot underground winery, replanted Pettingill’s vineyards to tightly spaced vines, and farmed organically. The winemaking hasn’t changed much either, with Chardonnay fermenting off natural yeasts in barrel, proceeding through (or not) malolactic fermentation as it chooses, and going into bottle without fining or filtration.
The best release yet for our favorite Napa Valley Chardonnay with Burgundian flair. On the nose and palate, there's more pineapple, crisp apple, white peach and citrus fruit than in the past, but still the crisp acids and chalky minerals that make this unique for Napa. Easy to drink but also complex and focused from front to back with a long finish of juicy fruit, butter, and smoke. A winner. Buy it.
- White Rock Vineyards Claret Napa 2009 Product #28118 (In Stock)
A Napa Valley legend, White Rock turns out just 3,000 cases of Chardonnay and Cabernet from it's small vineyard in Soda Canyon - all with old-school Napa style and up-to-date quality. The 2009 Claret is about 50% Cabernet Sauvignon with equal parts Cab Franc and Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot, all aged 32 months in French oak (40% new). Lovely aromas of boysenberry, currant, raspberry and cedar lead to a detailed mouthful of fruit and savory spice flavors with a nice hint of violet. Firm tannins give this the heft it needs to pair with lamb, although there's enough fruit to just enjoy on it's own now and for 10+ years.
