Ch La Roche St. Jean Blanc 2013 Product #28251 (In Stock)
Ch La Roche St. Jean Blanc 2013 Ch La Roche St. Jean Blanc 2013

2013 will be difficult for red Bordeaux, but the dry whites (like this one) excelled with that perfect blend of ripe fruit and vigorous, juicy, acids.  The 2013 edition of our best-selling Bordeaux Blanc ever delivers on the promise of the vintage.  It opens with its usual generous scents of white pineapple, honeysuckle, and orange zest.  The 100% Sauvignon Blanc fruit delivers more of the same on the palate plus a bit of firm green melon, tangerine, and a bite of citrus pith and oil.  A tad more elegant and fresh than the 2012, it's even more a great all-purpose white for parties, salads, fish, or just sipping on a warm afternoon.

Ch Recougne Bordeaux Superior 2010 375ml Ch Recougne Bordeaux Superior 2010 375ml

As always, a lovely value!

"Admirers of the so-called “little” wines of Bordeaux will no doubt be familiar with Recougne, which has been imported into the United States for nearly thirty years and can last for two decades or more. The 2010, which they now call “Vieilles Vignes,” exhibits aromas and flavors of cedarwood, spice box, black currants and berries. This medium-bodied, well-made blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc should drink well for 7-8 years. (Although last year I drank a 1952 that was still quite tasty.)"Wine Advocate 87-88 points

Ch Haut-Pasquet Bordeaux Blanc 2013 Product #28782 (In Stock)
Ch Haut-Pasquet Bordeaux Blanc 2013 Ch Haut-Pasquet Bordeaux Blanc 2013

Back in the old days, pretty much all white Bordeaux was a blend of the region’s three complementary grapes:  Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Muscadelle.  As Loire Valley and New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc became more popular in the 1980s, Bordeaux growers began phasing out first Muscadelle (too hard to grow) and then Semillon (usually pulled up in favor of Cabernet and Merlot).  The resulting Sauvignon-dominant (or 100% Sauvignon) white Bordeauxs can be a lot of refreshing, pool-side, fun – but they lack more traditional wine’s complexity of flavors and mellow, food-friendly, textures.

So, finding a traditional blend like this one is a real treat, especially at this great value price.  Give it a swirl and you’ll find a classic white Bordeaux nose of lemon/tangerine fruit, grapefruit pith, a bit of fresh mown grass, and the note of wet wool that Semillon brings to Bordeaux.  With air, a note of passion fruit and crushed savory herb emerges.  It’s light to medium-bodied and very fresh and happy in the mouth with flavors of lemon drop, tangerine, crushed herb and passion fruit puree.  On the finish, the fresh lemon and lime zest character comes forward and you’ll notice your mouth watering as the lemon and herb flavors linger on.   A lovely wine for any shellfish and herb dish or for salads with goat cheese.

Ch La Roche St. Jean Bordeaux Rouge 2012 Product #28504 (In Stock)
Ch La Roche St. Jean Bordeaux Rouge 2012 Ch La Roche St. Jean Bordeaux Rouge 2012

A classic Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and Merlot (40%). This is a soft, fruit filled, take on Bordeaux that fills your mouth with juicy red currant and black berry fruit accented by a touch of spice.  Subtle notes of fresh herb and tobacco keep this anchored in Bordeaux, and there’s just the enough ripe tannin to let it work well at table (but not enough to get in the way of solo sipping).

Ch Damase Bordeaux Superieur 2010 Product #29232 (In Stock)
Ch Damase Bordeaux Superieur 2010 Ch Damase Bordeaux Superieur 2010

Unusually for Bordeaux, Damase is planted 100% to Merlot due to its heavy clay soils.  Also unusual - at least at this price point - the wine ages entirely in new and 1 year-old oak casks for a year. The result is a richly fruit-filled Bordeaux - cherry, cassis, plum - with sophisticated accents of smoke, cedar, and herb.  Almost California fruit levels, but plenty of Bordeaux class at the end.

Ch Guirauton Graves Blanc 2012 Product #28432 (In Stock)
Ch Guirauton Graves Blanc 2012 Ch Guirauton Graves Blanc 2012

Here's a classic white Bordeaux fromt the gravelly soils that gave "Graves" its name.  It's a traditional blend of about 65% Sauvignon Blanc and 35% Semillon that sees little or no oak.  Nicely complex aromas of fresh green grass, lemon and orange peel citrus, green melon, and a hint of wet wool - the classic smell of Semillon.  Clean and fresh on the palate with the juicy fruit taking center stage up front and then a bright mineral note emerging on the back.  Fun to just sip and a great wine at table.

Someday, all the little Bordeaux from the great 2009 harvest will be gone, but until then, the values remain superb.  Here's another, based on 40% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cab Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot.  The Verdot really shows her in notes of candied violet and rich chocolate while the Cabernets add cedar, tobacco, currant, and dark cherry notes.  Finishes firm with spice, cedar and currant lingering.

Nicely in the drinking window now with miles to go in cellar  yet.

"This is a major sleeper of the vintage and the best wine I have ever tasted from La Cardonne, which is in the northern end of the Medoc, near the town of Blaignan. A blend of 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc, this 2009 offers up notes of tobacco leaf, cassis, and loamy soil with underbrush nuances. With excellent texture, impressive purity, and medium to full body, this is a rich, over-achieving cru bourgeois to drink over the next decade."Wine Advocate 88 points

Ch Morin Saint-Estephe 2011 Product #29492 (In Stock)
Ch Morin Saint-Estephe 2011 Ch Morin Saint-Estephe 2011

Most "value" Bordeaux carries a regional "Bordeaux" or "Medoc" label, so we were excited to find this gem from the prestigious commune of Saint-Estephe showing loads of Saint-Estephe character in the tricky 2011 vintage.   It's rich and deep, with more robust black currant fruit complementing its spice, cedar, and black olive notes.  As you'd expect from a mainly-Cabernet Sauvignon Bordeaux, there's good structure here but also lots of ripe fruit (if no overt fruitiness).  This will develop nicely over the next 5-8 years in cellar, but will also drink well now with lamb, pork chops, or beef.  Fine value.

An outstanding St. Emilion that's dead classic in every way other than price.  From 30 year-old vines of Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc and aged in all neutral oak, this opens with generous scents of currant, coffee, plum, blackberry, herb and tobacco.  In the mouth, utterly delicious and full of black fruit (berry, cherry, currant) served up with a handful of dark herb.  Plump in the middle and then focused and firm on the finish, you can drink this now with lamb or beef or wait 4-8 years if you'd rather.

Ch La Gorre Medoc 2010 Ch La Gorre Medoc 2010

"Cru Bourgeois" is the label given to Bordeaux estates of superior quality that were not listed in the Classification of 1855.  In a fine vintage (like 2010), this is where you'll find outstanding quality/value wines - like this beauty.  It's a blend of about equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with 5% Petite Verdot for spice.  It's a classic, classy, Left Bank Bordeaux with pretty fruit and fine, vigorous, structure.  Drink now with lamb or beef or let it keep opening for a few years.

""The La Gorre has a very attractive bouquet with lively, vivacious black cherries, boysenberry and crushed stone that is well defined and opens nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, supple tannins. The acidity is crisp and the finish tense, with hints of graphite on the finish. This is a well-crafted Cru Bourgeois. Drink now-2018."Wine Advocate 90 points
