- Grivault Bourgogne Blanc 2007 Product #22930 (In Stock)

The 2007 vintage was a challenge in Burgundy. The growing season started early but then slowed dramatically during a wet June and cool, cloudy, July and August. When August winds began to blow and dry things out, growers jumped to start their Pinot Noir harvests before rot could spread and carry away their crop. Chardonnay growers had to make a tough decision – start to harvest quickly (limiting losses to rot) or wait for better ripeness and accept lower yields.
At Domaine Grivault, Michel Bardet decided to wait, and was able to harvest a reasonably sized crop in September with good fruit flavors and ripe acids. After fermentation, the wine completed its malolactic fermentation over the winter and remained in used (4 years older or older) barrels until bottling. Like most good 2007s, this was intense and a little intimidating when it arrived in the US in March, 2010, but now it’s started to unfurl.
Today, there’s a lot going on aromatically here, with notes of French butter and grilled nuts on top and apple skin, chervil, citrus and a touch of dried herb honey swirling underneath. In the mouth, very 2007 – bracing and bright with loads of bright lemon, passion fruit, and lemon rind at first and then green apple, lime, limestone coming up underneath. A note of fresh butter and nut shows towards the end before the juicy acids and saline mineral kick in to make your mouth water. A sense of lemon butter and fresh mint lingers on and on. A stunning wine for shell fish or poultry with a touch of citrus right now and still plenty of potential to improve. - Maillard Bourgogne Rouge 2011 Product #27104 (In Stock)

Pascal Maillard has been going from strength to strength for the past few vintages and this, his “entry level” red is no exception. Shows off the best of the more elegant, supple, 2011 vintage with generous aromas of tangy red fruit, fresh herb, and a touch of mocha. In the mouth, lightly textured and vividly flavored with Bing and sour cherry, pomegranate, and a dash of herb and spice. Juicy and clean on the easygoing finish, a great Burgundy to enjoy now and over the next 3 or so years.
- Dom Mestre-Michelot Bourgogne Blanc Montmeix 2009 Product #26931 (In Stock)
-
-
A dead ringer for good Meursault, this stunning value comes from an under-the-radar estate called Domaine Michelot. From 35 year-old vines at the base of the Meursault slope, this is loaded with the white fruit, chalk, and fresh butter character that makes Meursault so delicious. Focused and tangy (especially for 2009!) and just 20% new oak to add spice without masking the lovely fruit. Excellent value.
- Lamy Pillot St Aubin Les Argilliers (Red) 2009 Product #27098 (In Stock)
-
-
A classic Saint Aubin red, loaded with vivid cherry fruit and snappy spice, this opens with pretty aromas of black cherry, Bing cherry, pomegranate and fresh ground coffee. In the mouth, a cheerful interplay of ripe black cherry and blackberry fruit with milk chocolate and baking spice accents. Much more richly textured than you’d expect from Saint Aubin, almost creamy in fact, with very fine-grained, supple, tannins providing support. Absolutely delicious right now, with all the depth and even lushness you’d hope for in 2009, but wouldn’t expect from Saint Aubin. Very, very, fine value in top-notch, fun to drink, red Burgundy!
- Maillard Chorey les Beaune Rouge 2009 Product #25962 (In Stock)
-
-
Even more than in the past, this is as fine a bottle of Pinot Noir as we sell for $30 or less. Pascal farms five different parcels in Chorey-les-Beaune and vinifies each on its own. Every winter, importer Olivier Daubresse works with Pascal to create a selection from the five tanks that demonstrates the best balance of forward fruit, earth, and ripe tannins. The 2009 vintage is, quite simply, the best Chorey Rouge Pascal has ever made.
Give it a swirl and you’ll find big, luscious, aromas of black and Bing cherry, red currant, Asian 5 spice, dark coffee and smoke. In the mouth it’s rich and powerful for a village wine with velvety spiced raspberry and cherry fruit, spice cake, roasted coffee and grilled mushroom flavors. Ripe and round in the middle, the wine snaps into precise, minerally, focus on the back palate and finish as notes of smokey mineral, crisp raspberry, and cocoa powder linger over fine-grained tannins. My note from January 2012 reads “That’s a winner. Buy lots.” Best advice I can give you. - Maillard Chorey Les Beaune Blanc 2010 Product #26131 (In Stock)

We carry Pascal Maillard's Chorey-les-Beaune Blanc every year, and it's always a big customer favorite. So, it's easy to forget that this is something of a rarity - only a tiny amount of Chorey-les-Beaune is actually white!
The campfire and smoke notes that marked this wine on release have subsided with a little time in bottle, leaving behind a wonderful nose of crisp apple, lemon oil, fresh butter, and a touch of spice. In the mouth, the texture is just stunning – sleek and glyceryl, mouthfilling but with great lightness. The flavors are a complex blend apricot, peach, apple, salted caramel, and butter with hints of chalk and fresh mint peeking out on the long, juicy, finish. The overall impact is of great richness but lovely vivacity and the butter and chalk notes call to mind an excellent Mersault. A delicious bottle to enjoy right now by itself or with roasted poultry or seafood, and likely to keep improving for 5 years or more. - Grivault Meursault 2008 375 Ml Product #24786 (In Stock)

If you love Grivault’s Bourgogne Blanc and have never tried his “real” Meursault -- well, it’s time. The flavors and aromas in the Meursault are very similar to the Bourgogne but ratcheted up a notch. Hazelnuts, almond, butter, white flower and peach aromas and flavors plus a beguiling fresh mint note. Easy to drink now but with a good 5-10 years of development ahead of it.
- Maillard Pommard La Chaniere 2008 Product #25183 (In Stock)
-
-
Pascal Maillard turned out a classic, muscular, Pommard in 2008. At this young age, the acidity is bright and ripe tannins firm, making the layers of black cherry, fresh earth, spice, and chamomile flavors very vibrant and fresh. Everything smooths out and integrates now with rich foods (duck or even lamb) and will gain more layered complexity over the next 3-4 years in cellar.
- Lamy Pillot Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru La Boudriotte 2009 Product #25354 (In Stock)
-
-
Although we tend to think of Chassagne-Montrachet as a white wine area, more than half of all Chassagne is planted to Pinot Noir. Without a doubt, the best Pinot in Chassagne comes from the 1er Cru vineyard La Boudriotte. At their best, reds from Chassagne are more feminine and delicate than their big cousins from the Cotes de Nuits, but while they drink well on release, they also develop nicely given cellar time.
Lamy-Pillot's top red wine from the 1er Cru Boudriotte vineyard is a beauty in 2009. Ripe cherry fruit and wet stone aromas lead to spicy red berry and currant fruit with a dash of mineral and spice. Even longer and more satisfying that the fine 2008, there's both an easy enjoyability and fascinating complexity at work here. Lovely wine for pork or duck now and for 5+ years. - Dom Larue Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly 2010 Product #26024 (In Stock)
-
-
Standing at the foot of Le Montrachet, you can just see the St. Aubin 1er Cru vineyard En Remilly peaking up over the hill. The Larue’s planted their one acre plot at 300 meters elevation in 1989, and these 21 year-old, tightly packed, vines always give fruit of fine concentration. As always, the 2010 was vinified in small French oak barrels (20% new) and allowed to rest on the fine lees for 10 months.
Always one of my favorite wines here, the 2010 En Remilly opens with lovely aromas of crisp apple, butter, chalk, caramelized pineapple, fresh rainwater and a dash of lime zest. On the palate, it’s bright and juicy with lovely creamy apple, lemon curd, star fruit, fresh chervil, almond and cultured butter flavors. There’s fine purity, transparency, and length here and the complex finish of wet stones, chalk, lime zest, and fresh mint lingers on and on. Delicious now and sure to improve for 5-8 years, this is the kind of white Burgundy that will appeal to everyone from California Chardonnay fans to lovers of classic Chablis. - Dom Larue Saint-Aubin 1er Murgers Des Dents De Chien 2010 Product #26025 (In Stock)

The “teeth of the dog” vineyard lies in the southern part of St. Aubin, on the border with Puligny-Montrachet and not far from Montrachet. The five separate vineyard parcels (about 4 acres total) were planted at different times, with the oldest vines dating from 1947 and 1964. Vinified in oak (20% new) with 10 months on the lees.
Definitely more Puligny in style than En Remilly and wanting a year or two of cellaring to open up. The 2010 is like a slightly riper, more generous, version of the 2008. Focused and chalky – and with even more minerality sure to emerge – this is still generous with its bright apple, lime, and peach skin fruit accented by fresh butter and toasted nuts. Vigorous and refreshing, there’s fine length here and a long finish where notes of parsley and thyme emerge. Terrific value. - Lamy Pillot Chassagne Montrachet Clos St Jean (Rouge) 2009 Product #27093 (In Stock)
-
-
Here’s the rare Chassagne rouge that reminds you why this village was much better known for its elegant, complex, red wines until 40 or so years ago. Classic red Burgundy notes of dark cherry, red plum, fresh earth, and dark flowers on the nose. Then high-toned, very pure, red and black fruits in the mouth with accents of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted mushroom, and more on the elegant, very long, palate. Finishes dark – black cherry, mocha, spice – and intense with lingering floral, spice, and mineral notes and super-fine tannins and acids. Young now and wanting a little air, this is very pure, focused, and sophisticated and will be just brilliant with roast chicken, duck, or even pork. Compelling.
- Marie Bernard (Marc Morey) Chassagne Montrachet Village 2009 Product #26142 (In Stock)

An excellent village Chassagne, ripe but also minerally fresh. Drinking well now.
"An equally fresh mix of resin, citrus and yellow orchard fruit aromas slides gracefully into pretty, sappy and energetic middle weight flavors that culminate in an exuberant and mouth coating finish."Allen Meadows 88 points
- Lamy Pillot Chassagne Montrachet Pot Bois 2009 Product #25353 (In Stock)
-
-
Although Pot Bois is "only" a village wine, the vineyard is in the middle of 1er Cru vineyards and delivers that level of quality. Sébastien explains that the site is unusual in that it is always a little out of sync with the vineyards around it. In 2009, it remained a touch cooler than many neighboring sites, retaining a fantastic freshness to go with 2009's fine ripeness. With zero new oak, the purity and focus of this fine site shines through. You'll find aromas and flavors of yellow apple, pine nut, and a touch of mint before orchard fruits and white pepper appear. Weighty but also vibrant, this would be lovely to drink now on its own or with pan fried fish.
- Maillard Volnay Les Combes 2009 Product #26599 (In Stock)
-
-
A new vineyard for Pascal, but one that makes you think he’s been making Volnay forever. You'll find the terrific ripeness and plush texture that you hope for in a top 2009 red Burgundy along with a sense of generosity and fun. But, the ripe red and black fruit and fine, earthy, spice are all wrapped in the silky elegance that makes Volnay so famous. Open enough to enjoy right now and sure to be better over the next 5-7 years.
- Lamy Pillot Chassagne Montrachet Pot Bois 2011 Product #27094 (In Stock)

From the very highest vineyard in Chassagne, this always balances fine ripeness (from low yields and later harvest dates) with zesty acidity and loads of lovely minerality. In 2011, there’s more muscle, richness, and depth than expected with tangy orchard fruits (apricot, peach and yellow apple) complicated by notes of tarragon, mint, and green tea. The aromas get more complex and creamy with air, the palate more round and compelling, while the finish dances with bright acidity and stony mineral notes. Lovely wine and very fine value.
- Bzikot Puligny Montrachet Cuvee De La Maison 2010 Product #24384 (In Stock)
-
-
"Cuvee de la Maison" - the blend of the House - is two barrels of Puligny Montrachet Doug selected from 9 Sylvain Bzikot made in 2010 from the fine Les Petites Nosroyes vineyard. From first opening, generous aromas of lemon curd, grilled pineapple, apricot, fresh butter, toasted nut, crushed mint, and a light touch of toasted oak. In the mouth, the perfect balance of richness, minerality, and cut that we love in top white Burgundy. The palate has the wonderful transparency critics are raving about in 2010, with pure flavors of lemon, golden apple, tangy pineapple, chervil and mint, and wet stones. The aromas and flavors are all about purity and balance, but there’s a sneaky richness here and the weight of a top 1er Cru. I love everything about the wine, but I’m most excited about the finish, which is just fantastically long and pure and mouthwatering as the lemon curd, pineapple, grilled nut, butter, and mineral flavors go on and on and on.
This is a baby today, and if you decant it (or wait a few years in cellar), you’ll find greater depths of flavor, more richness, and a growing sense of power to go with the precise, almost translucent, flavors and palate sense. What you won’t find is a heavy sense of oak, because even though this wine was raised in two brand new (if lightly toasted) French oak barrels, the concentrated fruit Sylvain farmed in the Les Petites Nosroyes vineyard has gobbled up the wood and shines through with freshness, precision, and verve. I love this stuff, and hope you will too. - Maillard Aloxe-Corton Grandes Lollieres 1er Cru 2008 Product #25184 (In Stock)
-
-
Always one of my favorite wines from this address, the 2008 Lollieres flirts with Grand Cru concentration at a price that's low for a good 1er Cru. The fruit is dark and concentrated this year - black raspberry and cherry - with accents of coffee grounds, sweet spice, smoke, and roasted meat. At first elegant and silky in the mouth, the flavors fan out nicely on the long, ripe, and energetic finish. Already delicious with roast duck, this will improve for 10-15 years.
- Marie Bernard (Marc Morey) Chassagne 1er les Chenevottes 2008 Product #25217 (In Stock)
-
-
Labeled for us under the Marie Bernard name to comply with Virginia's restrictive distribution rules, this is the exact same wine sold under the Marc Morey label in France and the rest of the USA.
“Outstanding. A touch of reduction knocks down the expressiveness of the nose somewhat but not enough to conceal the otherwise cool, ripe and pretty orchard fruit and citrus aromas. The delicious, rich, round and nicely plump flavors possess good mid-palate concentration and are set off against a racy, intense, detailed and lightly mineral-suffused finish that also displays a touch of austerity. Excellent.”Allen Meadows 91 points

Labeled for us under the Marie Bernard name to comply with Virginia's restrictive distribution rules, this is the exact same wine sold under the Marc Morey label in France and the rest of the USA.
"Outstanding. Notes of ripe orchard fruit, citrus, floral and brioche give way to discreetly wood-influenced medium full flavors that are round yet detailed and pack really lovely intensity on the palate staining and lingering finish that possesses a seductive mouth feel." Allen Meadows 91 points
“Intensely ripe scents of Normandy cider, peach, and decadent lily on the nose of Marc Morey 2007 Chassagne Montrachet Les Chenevottes are followed by a surprisingly chalky and dense – by no means over-ripe or too-soft – palate impression, with subtly tart and juicy apple, pineapple, and peach serving for refreshment. Faintly bitter fruit pit notes are nicely integrated to offer a bit of counterpoint, and the forward fruit and lushness of finish here will make it a crowd pleaser. It’s not as though there are no mineral aspects here: a certain sense of chalkiness is very much present.” Wine Advocate 90 points
