- Guillon Bourgogne Rouge 2010 Product #26123 (In Stock)
-
-
Comfortably the best vintage yet of this always delicious Bourgogne Pinot Noir. Intensely aromatic from the first pour with a heady perfume of violets, ripe blackberry, black cherry and plum fruit, black tea, and fresh earth. Mouthfilling but very detailed and precise with generous cranberry, pomegranate, strawberry, and red cherry fruit, a touch of citrus and spice, and a very finely textured finish. With air, the spice strengthens and a hint of mocha emerges. Just as ripe as the excellent 2009, but more feminine and graceful with lovely purity of aroma and flavor. Irresistible now and for a half decade or more with salmon, duck, lamb, or anything laced with mushroom.
“OUTSTANDING TOP VALUE. A ripe, fresh and very pretty nose features notes of violets, blue berry, plum and earth. There is good richness to the delicious and energetic flavors that possess fine volume and notably better than average length for its level. A lovely Bourgogne that could be drunk now or aged a few years first if desired.”Allen Meadows 86-88 points
- Guillon Bourgogne Rouge 2011 Product #27109 (In Stock)
-
-
All the ripeness and depth you love in an elegant, fresh and wide-open style perfect to enjoy over the next five years or so.
"A fresh, ripe and expressive nose of violets, earth and various red berry fruit scents introduces rich, delicious and impressively sized flavors that possess good balance on the relatively fine and persistent finish. A quality effort for the appellation."Allen Meadows 85-88 points
- Guillon Marsannay Clos Des Portes 2010 Product #26486 (In Stock)
-
-
If you don’t consider yourself a Burgundy buyer, then just think of this as one of the best Russian River or Willamette Valley Pinot Noirs you’ll find anywhere for the money. But, if you are a Burgundy fan, then get ready to marvel that a wine that’s so captivating right now could also be so well suited for the cellar and from lowly Marsannay!
Jean Michel Guillon purchased this small vineyard about 5 years ago and his hard work has transformed its 30-40 year-old vines into something very special indeed. In 2010, he harvested just 22 hectoliters per hectare of perfectly ripe fruit here – about 40% lower yields than are allowed in Grand Cru vineyards! As always, the wine was aged for about 16 months in 100% new French oak, but the intensity of the fruit and quality of the barrels means that the wood is completely integrated already.
Even this young, the aromas are luscious with generous scents of red currant, cranberry, coffee and spice jumping from the glass. While the aromas will get better and better with air or time, the palate is stunning from the get-go. Beautiful sweet cherry, currant, and red berry fruit take center stage today with accents of smoke, coffee, and fresh flowers providing accents. The fruit is so sweet and texture of the wine so silky smooth that you might miss the iron ore minerality and fine tannins that bode so well for future improvement. A pretty cranberry note wells up on the velvety finish – and what’s better with Thanksgiving than a little cranberry! A beautiful wine to drink right now and sure to be better and better over the next decade."Deep ruby. A ripe and distinctly earthy nose of mostly cassis and red currant aromas leads to rich and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors that possess good mid-palate concentration, all wrapped in a sappy finish that delivers fine length. Solid quality here."Allen Meadows 87-89 points
- Barthod Bourgogne Les Bons Batons 2009 Product #26374 (In Stock)
-
-
A stunning bottle of Pinot from Chambolle's master.
"There is no better place to learn about the subtleties of Chambolle than in the cellars of Ghislaine Barthod. With one Bourgogne and nine Chambolles, including eight 1er Crus, Barthod’s wines run the gamut from the delicate to the virile, all within the confines of this tiny village. Every wine I tasted during my recent visit was impeccable. I can’t recommend the wines of this small, family-run domaine highly enough. The 2009 Bourgogne presents a typical expression of Chambolle in its perfumed, floral aromatics and silky fruit. Red raspberries and mint linger on the delicate, inviting finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019."Wine Advocate 87-89 points
- Guillon Gevrey-Chambertin Pere Galland 2010 Product #26485 (In Stock)
-
-
Jean Michel makes several different Gevrey village cuvves, but this one – named for the man who helped Jean Michel learn to make wine – really grabbed us in 2010. Screams “Gevrey” with its earthy red fruit and note of dusty iron ore but still soft and open enough to give early pleasure. Excellent value.
"In contrast to the relatively expressive noses of the prior three wines, this is much more serious with brooding aromas of earth, wild red berries and a whiff of humus. There is excellent energy to the detailed and lightly mineral-suffused flavors that possess good ripeness to the structural elements where the finish again displays a wonderful sense of tension and energy."Allen Meadows 88-91 points
- Dom Regis Forey Morey St. Denis 2009 Product #26795 (In Stock)
-
-
Fantastic value in this elegant, pure, MSD.
"The 2009 Morey St. Denis is soft and spiced at the outset, then turns quite a bit more pointed on the mid-palate and finish. This attractive, mid-weight wine comes across as quite open and ready to go. Layers of expressive red fruit frame the finish. Half of the wine was aged in new 500-liter barrels, the rest was aged in used oak. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019."Wine Advocate 89 points

Burghound “Outstanding Top Value”
A great vintage for this excellent Village level red made from Jean-Michel’s oldest vines – all 50 years old or older. As always, this delivers plenty of power and structure, but there is an extra level of ripeness and grace here as well. This will drink nicely with decanting now and really hit its stride in another 5 years.“From 50+ year-old vines raised in 100% new wood. This is extremely primary, in fact so much so that residual fermentation aromas are still evident though the red berry fruit appears clean and pure and is followed by impressively rich and full-bodied flavors blessed with ample dry extract that confers a beguiling texture to the mouth feel and renders the firm tannins almost invisible on the impeccably balanced finish. Recommended as villages level wines typically do not have this kind of completeness. Outstanding Top Value.”Allen Meadows 89-91 points
- Dom Forey Morey St. Denis 2010 Product #26901 (In Stock)
-
-
A beautifully pure and elegant Morey St. Denis with generous fruit, good mineral, and just a touch of oak spice. Beautiful with roast chicken.
"A delicate hint of wood does not diminish the attractiveness of the ripe and solidly complex earthy red berry fruit aromas that have a top note of rose petal. The delicious and very pinot flavors possess good precision and freshness on the vibrant and pure finish. This is an elegant villages and I like the sophistication of the tannins here though there is only average complexity."Allen Meadows 87 points
"Bright medium red. Plum, rust and brown spices on the nose. Round, supple and vinous, with ripe redcurrant fruit showing good sweetness and plenty of early appeal. Finishes with a hint of oaky bitterness but the tannins are nicely enrobed by fruit."International Wine Cellar 88 points
"The 2010 Morey St. Denis has plenty of energy and vibrancy. Brilliant, nicely delineated tannins frame dark fruit, freshly cut flowers and subtle hints of spices. This is a very pretty villages. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016."Wine Advocate 88 points
- Guillon Nuits St George Les Chaillots 2010 Product #26487 (In Stock)
-
-
From Jean Michel’s only vineyard in Nuits, this fine Village red seems better than many 1er Cru wines I taste from this AOC. My notes from January: “I like this a lot. High toned and juicy with refreshing acid and juicy fruit. Bright and energetic. Love the cherry fruit.”
"A discreet application of wood sets off pungently earthy and quite ripe aromas of primarily red pinot and blue berry that give way to rich, suave and delicious medium weight flavors that are shaped by phenolically ripe and firm tannins before culminating in a sappy, balanced and vibrant finish. This is very Nuits in character and not especially elegant but the overall impression is of a villages that delivers excellent quality in an ageworthy package."Allen Meadows 89-91 points
- Dom Jerome Chezeaux Nuits St Georges 1er Les Vaucrains 2008 Product #26796 (In Stock)
-
-
Needs a little air or aging, although not as much as WA thinks! Another fine value.
"Jerome Chezeaux farms a total of 11.2 hectares of vineyards, of which 6.6 are estate owned. The fruit is 100% destemmed. Chezeaux favors fairly lengthy macerations. New oak levels are on the low side. The 2008 Nuits St. Georges Les Vaucrains presents the darker, juicier side of Nuits in its rich, textured dark fruit. New leather, sweet spices and licorice are some of the aromas and flavors that develop in the glass. The muscular style and firm tannins argue for considerable patience. Anticipated maturity: 2024-2039"Wine Advocate 93 points
- Dom Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Echezeaux 2008 Product #24380 (In Stock)
-
-
Planted in 1930, Fourrier’s plot sits directly under Charmes-Chambertin on the border with Morey St. Denis. This reminds one of Chambolle, with spicy red fruits and a rich, round, texture. Lovely.
“An intensely, even pungently earthy nose of red and dark berry fruit is very much in keeping with the firm, precise and layered flavors that possess a lovely sense of relief and tension on the solidly long finish. This is very Gevrey in character and offers fine quality for a villages. Drink 2013+”Allen Meadows 87-90 points
"Fourrier’s 2008 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Echezeaux (from nearly 90 year-old vines) is intensely scented with kirsch, herbs, and sea spray, which adumbrate its bright, saline, firm but not hard or angular palate impression. Strong cherry pit, stone, and charred meat notes lend this energetic but athletically lean and bright Gevrey a hint of austerity, but it has me salivating uncontrollably. For those who like the style and pair the wine creatively, this should give plenty of pleasure over at least the next 6-8 years, though as Fourrier is eager to concur with me, following the course of 2008s in bottle is bound to mean venturing into relatively uncharted territory."Wine Advocate 89 points
- Dom Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin Vieille Vignes 2008 Product #24381 (In Stock)
-
-
A bit of a misnomer, since Fourrier sells all of the fruit he grows from vines less than 30 years old. The VV comes from the northern end of Gevrey and is always dense and solid with loads of strawberry fruit and a firm finish. A fascinating contrast to the Aux Echezaux and, drunk alongside it, a nice demonstration of terroir.
“Palish red. Captivating, expressive aromas of cherry, smoke, mocha and underbrush; slightly exotic in a positive way. Sweet on entry, then sappy in the middle, thanks to firm acidity and a saline quality. Complex, soil-driven wine but not at all dry.”International Wine Cellar 90 points
- Guillon Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru La Riotte 2008 Product #23794 (In Stock)
-
-
Burghound “Sweet Spot Outstanding”
Always Jean-Michel’s most forward, silky, and even “sexy” wine, the 2008 bursts from the glass with gorgeous red fruit and spice aromas. Then, wonderfully giving in the mouth with fine weight and balance. The best of these for drinking near-term, but with plenty of cellar potential.
“A different and redder but even riper fruit profile leads to rich, round and overtly generous mineral-infused middle weight plus flavors that possess fine mid-palate concentration and excellent length. This is a lovely combination of power and finesse. Sweet Spot Outstanding.”Allen Meadows 89-92 points
- Guillon Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Clos Prieur 2009 Product #25875 (In Stock)
-
-
The very fine 1er Cru Clos Prieur vineyard sits on the hill just under the Grand Cru Mazis Chambertin. The heavier soils here lead to a darker, deeper, more savory set of Pinot flavors than you'll find elsewhere in Gevrey, although there's still fine elegance and harmony.
"Here too there is a touch of wood spice that is noticeable but not really invasive. There is good density to the fruit on the sauvage and underbrush suffused nose that, like the La Perrière, is also very Gevrey in character which continues onto the quite finely detailed flavors that are more refined if a bit less complex."Allen Meadows 88-91 points
- Dom Forey Vosne Romanee 2010 Product #26903 (In Stock)
-
-
A stellar Vosne Romanee with velvet texture and fine length.
"Brilliant dark red. Reticent, slightly medicinal aromas of raspberry and pepper. Brisk and juicy in the mouth, with excellent cut to its flavors of red berries, pepper, spices and minerals. Finishes with a firm tannic spine and lingering notes of griotte cherry, pepper and spices. Long and backward for village wine, and very promising."International Wine Cellar 90 points
"The 2010 Vosne-Romanee is the most interesting and complete of the four village-level wines in Forey’s portfolio. It possesses lovely textural finesse and delineation in its attractive notes of plum, black cherries and spices. I tasted the Vosne from both a new and one-year-old barrel and came away with the impression that even the wine in the new barrel had more than enough density to stand up to the oak. The Vosne is made from an assortment of parcels on the northern side of the village. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2020."Wine Advocate 88+ points
- Guillon Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru La Riotte 2010 Product #26482 (In Stock)
-
-
Always one of the most seductive and beautiful wines at Domaine Guillon, the 2010 La Riotte exemplifies what I love about 2010 – deeply ripe but also transparent and oh so elegant. Lovely.
"A cool, pure and extremely pretty nose of both red and black cherry that is nuanced by soft iron-inflected earth aromas. There is fine concentration and real verve to the beautifully well-balanced flavors that possess impressive depth and length. A moderately structured Morey 1er of refinement. Sweet Spot Outstanding.”Allen Meadows 90-93 points
- Dom Drouhin-Laroze Grand Cru Chambertin Clos De Beze 2004 Product #25632 (In Stock)
-
-
"Serious, dense, savoury wine. For thoughtful ascetics rather than hedonists. Real long-term stuff and so much the better. Pure, dense and deep – smooth textured but one for the long term. Drink 2010-2020" Jancis Robinson 18.5/20
"A spicy and notably ripe dark pinot fruit nose that offers black cherry and a touch of cassis that continues onto the tightly wound, earthy, rich and austere but amply powerful flavors that are impressively backward and dense, particularly for the vintage and this too is going to require the better part of a decade before it really gets rolling. I like the style and the definition, particularly on the superbly long and intense finish. Drink 2014+"Allen Meadows 90-93 points
- Dom Forey Morey St. Denis 1er Cru 2010 Product #26902 (In Stock)
-
-
An elegant, sophisticated, MSD that started in all new-oak but remains very pure.
"A gentle hint of wood sets off ripe and perfumed aromas of red currant, plum and violet. The supple and very forward medium-bodied flavors possess a very fine texture, the impression of which is enhanced by the presence of equally fine tannins on the dusty, long and balanced finish. A lovely and understated effort of finesse."Allen Meadows 89-92 points
"Good bright, full red. Cool aromas of black fruits and menthol. Juicy, tight and intensely flavored; at once seamless and less obviously fruity than the Vosne-Romanee. Finishes with firm tannins and enticing lingering perfume. Rather elegantly styled Morey wine, with just 12.8% alcohol."International Wine Cellar 89 points
"The 2010 Morey St. Denis 1er Cru is gorgeous. It reveals lovely transparency in its gently framed dark fruit and spice nuances. I especially like the way this fleshes out on the mid-palate, while saline notes underpin the elegant finish. Forey works with two parcels with this cuvee Les Blanchards and Clos Baulet, two 1er Crus that sit next to each other. The fruit from both sites is vinified together. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025."Wine Advocate 91 points
- Guillon Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru La Petite Chapelle 2008 Product #23711 (In Stock)
-
-
Burghound “Sweet Spot Outstanding”
All of Jean-Michel’s 2008s merit your attention, but if you’re only buying one, this is it. Petite Chapelle approaches Grand Cru levels of concentration, depth, and complexity but at a price that’s very reasonable even for a 1er Cru. And the finish this year sails on and on and on…“From 50+ year-old vines in 100% new oak but with lower toast levels. Visible but not bothersome wood sets off bright, elegant and fresh red pinot fruit aromas trimmed in subtle wet stone notes that complement well the refined and sophisticated middle weight flavors that culminate in a cool, balanced and wonderfully long finish. This is also a lovely effort with a beguiling mouth feel of precision and tension that is clean and dry without leaning toward the commercial. Sweet Spot Outstanding.”Allen Meadows 90-92 points
