Dom Raphael Sallet Macon-uchizy 2014 Product #29910 (In Stock)
Dom Raphael Sallet Macon-uchizy 2014 Dom Raphael Sallet Macon-uchizy 2014

You’ve probably never heard of the little village of Macon-Uchizy, but it’s well known in Burgundy itself.  With its east-facing vineyards, Uchizy gives wines of fine ripeness but a touch more perfume and delicacy than is often found in the Macon.  And, Raphael Sallet is just the man to capture the region’s potential in a bottle.  Sallet is relatively unknown in this country, and you won’t find much about him in the wine press either.  That’s because he’s widely respected for quality and value within France and has never had to bother to cultivate a reputation in the US.

Taste the wine, though, and you’ll know just how good Raphael is!  Aromas of ripe apple, white peach, apple skin, green pineapple and a touch of hazelnut and crushed chervil with just a touch of salty caramel hiding underneath.  Then bright and creamy textured in the mouth with clean apple, white peach, and lemony citrus fruit accented by notes of cultured butter and dried caramel.  A note of chalky mineral shows up on the back and continues on the pretty, clean and tasty, lemon/lime and peach skin finish.

Dom Chene Macon Villages 2014 Product #29733 (In Stock)
Dom Chene Macon Villages 2014 Dom Chene Macon Villages 2014

The Chêne family has been growing grapes and making wine in Macon for five generations, but traditionally sold all of their crop to the local co-op.  In 1999, Cedric Chêne decided that his vineyards and hard work deserved better and began bottling and selling his own wine as Domaine Chêne Pere et Fils - and we're glad he did!

This 100% Chardonnay from sites just north of the town of Macon serves up pretty aromas of lemon custard, fresh orchard fruit, and a touch of toasted hazelnut.  Rich and creamy in texture, the gentle pear fruit is lifted by a squirt of lemony acidity and gets added complexity from notes of fresh mint and hazelnut.  Finished bright and clean with mint and lemon curd flavors lingering nicely.

Jean-Marc Brocard Bourgogne Blanc Kiimmeridgien 2013 Product #29669 (In Stock)
Jean-Marc Brocard Bourgogne Blanc Kiimmeridgien 2013 Jean-Marc Brocard Bourgogne Blanc Kiimmeridgien 2013

Juilien Brocard sources the Chardonnay for this crackling value white from the Kimmeridgien soils of Auxerrois, just west of Chablis.  Named for the Dorset, England, town where it was first cataloged, Kimmeridgien soil consists of layers of dense chalk and softer clay encrusted with tiny fossilized sea shells (you’ll find a stylized drawing of an Ammonite shell right on the label). Offering excellent drainage and plenty of mineral nutrients for the vines, Kimmeridgien soils give the best wines of Champagne, Sancerre, and Chablis lovely ripeness with unique accents of flinty, salty, minerality.

Despite losing one-third of his crop in the challenging 2013 growing season, Brocard has crafted a perfectly ripe and utterly delicious Bourgogne Blanc with no oak to refresh you during summer’s heat and delight with seafood all year long.  Clean, fresh, aromas of citrus peel, green apple, flint and seashell really pull you in for a sip.  You’ll find a vibrant, but nicely rich, mouthful of yellow apple, peach, lemon and lime zest fruit enlivened by juicy acids and salty stone minerality.  The texture is smooth, with no hard edges, and the lovely fruit and wet stone flavors linger on very nicely.  The weight of Macon, a touch of Central Coast Chardonnay fruit, and a stony Chablis finish combine perfectly in this seductive summer white value.

Dom Cordier Vire Clesse Vielles Vignes 2012 Product #29347 (In Stock)
Dom Cordier Vire Clesse Vielles Vignes 2012 Dom Cordier Vire Clesse Vielles Vignes 2012

The Vire Clesse appellation was created in 1999 in recognition that this limestone-rich stretch of vineyards was of higher quality than most Macon sites, if not quite up to the level of Pouilly Fuisse.  By law, all Vire Clesse wines must be bone dry, giving the best examples (like this one) an almost Chablis-like cut and vibrancy.

This beauty opens with a wonderful saline nose of crushed rock, crisp apple, stone fruit and fresh mint.  The palate is sophisticated, luscious, and quite complex, with layered flavors of apple, apricot, and pineapple fruit framed by more mineral and a touch of lees.  Finishes pure, clean, and long with salty caramel, fresh fruit, and white flower notes and a mouthwatering burst of fresh pineapple with a touch of chalk left behind.  Utterly delicious and compelling now and for the next 2-3 years.

“The 2012 Viré Clessé Vieilles Vignes has a well-defined, precise bouquet with fragrant white peach and persimmon notes that remain focused and taut. The palate is well-defined and crisp with brisk acidity and very fine tension to the slightly austere finish that deserves a few months in bottle. This is well-crafted and might well repay just a few months in bottle if you choose to do so. Drink 2014-2019.”Wine Advocate 89 points

Langlois Pere Et Fils Cassis Nv Product #28099 (In Stock)
Langlois Pere Et Fils Cassis Nv Langlois Pere Et Fils Cassis Nv

The first thing you'll notice about this delicious creme de cassis is its almost neon color, a gorgeous, glass-staining magenta.  Made from super-ripe cassis berries grown on the Langlois estate, this is sweet, rich and lucious, to be sure, but also has an intriguing undercurrent of something leafy and herbal that keeps it from becoming cloying.  If you've never had a real creme de cassis, try adding a few drops to sparkling wine for a Kir Royale you won't forget!

Dom Francois Raquillet Bourgogne 2013 Dom Francois Raquillet Bourgogne 2013

As Burghound says, "Raquillet is one of the best hidden gems of the Côte Chalonnaise. His wines are first-rate and they sell for very reasonable prices. Do yourself, and your pocketbook, a favor and check them out." This not-yet reviewed Borgogne shows just how delicious they are.  Expressive, ripe, and sophisticated, it's all about plump black cherry, raspberry, and roasted strawberry fruit with accents of berry blossom, smoke, hot stones, fresh earth, and more.  Sweetly fruited, supple, and delicious right now.

Dom Pillot Mercurey Rouge 2012 Product #29722 (In Stock)

The Pillot brothers are 5th generation winegrowers working out of cellars dating from the 13th and 17th centuries in the Cote Chalonnaise village of Mercurey.  "Meticulous" doesn't begin to describe how they make their wines and work their vineyards - they're so picky at harvest, some harvesters won't work for them!  That care and attention shows in all their wines, but shines through especially clearly in this "Village" level Pinot Noir.

First, a big burst of ripe cherry, fresh cut flowers, mushroom, and sweet spice.  Then, it's rich and deeply textured in your mouth where layers and layers of sweet cherry, raspberry, campfire, fresh earth, and spice coat your palate.  For all the richness and depth of flavor, there's not one ounce of extra fat in this pure, intense, Burgundy Pinot Noir that closes with a classic finish of fresh fruit, earthy mushroom, and silky tannins.  Compelling now and built to shine for 5+ years.

5th Generation winemakers Jean Michel and Laurent Pillot are best known for their elegant, over-achieving, Pinot Noirs, but they craft delicious Chardonnay too.  This beauty is about half village and half 1er Cru Chardonnay, all harvested carefully by hand and meticulously raised in their 13th and 17th Century cellars in Mercurey.  It's rich and complex, with generous white fruit - apple, white peach, white apricot - framed by notes of  mint, butter, and hazelnut.  A touch of vanilla peaks out on the midpalate and the luscious flavors just keep on pumping through the long, mouthwatering, finish. A rich, creamy, white Burgundy value.

Dom Cordier Pouilly Fuisse Vielles Vignes 2010 Product #29346 (In Stock)
Dom Cordier Pouilly Fuisse Vielles Vignes 2010 Dom Cordier Pouilly Fuisse Vielles Vignes 2010

A fine Pouilly Fuisse should be rich, generous, and just a touch exotic - and this fantastic 2010 from old vines delivers all of that and more.  The aromas are just classic:  ripe pineapple, fresh peach, creamy butter, and sweet mint all burst from the glass.  The palate is rich and buttery with generous flavors of apricot, passion fruit, citrus, grilled pineapple and creme fresh.  The flavors completely coat your palate but avoid heaviness as tangy pineapple, passion fruit, lemon zest, mint and crushed stone flavors linger over the geneours, mouthwatering, finish.  Still a baby with at least 5-6 years of cellar development in front of it, but hard to resist for the rich fruit right now.

“Sweet Spot Outstanding. The big, rich and powerful medium-bodied flavors exude a palate staining dry extract that pushes the otherwise firm acid spine to the background but not so much that the complex and impressively long finish loses its focus. This should be terrific and offer an extended cellaring potential if desired yet the abundance of sap will allow this to be enjoyed young.”Allen Meadows 90-93 points

“Full-bodied with sunny warmth, this golden wine has a pale earthiness touched by some exotic notes of kumquat and mango. Seashell minerality integrates the alcohol into the fruit. The flavors last, ready to serve with roast sea bass.”Wine & Spirits 90 points

“A broad, powerful white, evoking fennel, grapefruit, pineapple and apricot flavors tinged by oak spice. Well-structured and long, with a mineral aftertaste. Drink now through 2018.”Wine Spectator 91 points

Thibault Liger-Belair Nuits St George La Charmotte 2012 Product #29164 (In Stock)
Thibault Liger-Belair Nuits St George La Charmotte 2012 Thibault Liger-Belair Nuits St George La Charmotte 2012

"Rose petals, mint, pine and rosemary meld into sweet red fruits in the 2012 Nuits-Saint-Georges La Charmotte, a wine that stands out for its energy and tension. There is a crystalline purity to the fruit that is impossible to miss. The Charmotte is shaping up to be a beauty."  Antonio Galloni 90-92 points

"An intensely floral character adds breadth to the very fresh, pure, cool and restrained aromas of various red berries, earth and humus. Here too there is a lovely mouth feel to the detailed and energetic middle weight flavors that possess excellent length and almost no rusticity. There is a hint of bitterness present though I attribute this to the recent bottling and not to under ripe tannins or excessively toasted wood. Recommended."Allen Meadows 89 points

"Redcurrant and floral aromas show an almost liqueur-like ripeness. Dense, fat and sweet, offering terrific intensity and inner-mouth tension to its flavors of dried berries and rose petal. The finish builds impressively for village wine. Liger-Belair told me the crop level here was just ten (!) hectoliters per hectare."International Wine Cellar 91 points
