Los Ailos Syrah-Malbec 2013 Product #27960 (In Stock)
Los Ailos Syrah-Malbec 2013 Los Ailos Syrah-Malbec 2013

As much as we love Argentina's straight Malbec wines, they can get even better with the help of a blending partner.  In the Los Ailos, Syrah plays that role, taking what would have been a pleasant, juicy, red to a whole new level of richness and flavor.

The 2013 Los Ailos Syrah/Malbec opens with pretty aromas of ripe cherry and black plum.  Then, in the mouth, it's ripe and juicy with plenty of fresh black fruit, a little leather, and a nice touch of minerality.  It's balanced and fresh with a fine spread of ripe tannin on the back promising good things at table.  Very nice value.

Parados Winemaker's Select 2013 Parados Winemaker's Select 2013

This is as fine a red for sipping and entertaining as anything we've ever seen at $10.  An unusual and distinctive blend of 40% Sangiovese, 40% Tempranillo and 20% Malbec reflects Argentina’s unique wine heritage – Italy, Spain, and France are all represented here! After a cool fermentation, the Winemaker’s Reserve spends a couple of months in used oak barrels to soften and add a touch of spice.  Pop a bottle and you’ll find loads of red berry fruit aromas and flavors with just a touch of blackberry and dark, earthy, undertones.  Fresh and zesty, the wine finishes with soft tannins and bright acidity that will let it take a chill nicely.  Drink with burgers, grilled pork, meaty fish, or even wings and chili while watching a game.  Fantastic value!

Bodegas Monteviejo Festivo Torrontes 2012 Bodegas Monteviejo Festivo Torrontes 2012

A delicious, exotic, and wild Torrontes that somehow retains enough focus and control to work with food, too. It's a bit like a cross between Muscat (exotic fruit and floral notes) and Gewurztraminer (ginger and warm spice) with loads of peach and mango at the core.  Lovely sweetness to the fruit flavors and fine acidity to balance the lite residual sugar at the end.  Exciting stuff!

Bodega Benegas Malbec Juan Benegas 2011 Bodega Benegas Malbec Juan Benegas 2011

This little gem WAY over delivers for its modest price.  Winegrower/maker Federico Benegas Lynch is a master of getting perfectly ripe fruit from his old-vine vineyards and, with help from master consultant Michel Rolland, turning out honest wines of great depth and character.  Here you'll find a fun, fruity, wine with earthy blackberry, blueberry, spice and coffee aromas and flavors.  An iron ore minerality adds complexity and the round tannins and bright acids just the right support.  It's fruitier and not quite as complex as Frederico's Estate Malbec, but just perfect for parties or pairing with everyday meals.

A lot more serious fun than most Malbec in this price range, it's soft enough to sip and deep enough to love rich food.  This vintage is a bit darker and jammier than the last, but it still finishes clean thanks to the firm structure.  No oak, but plenty of spice and fine-grained tannin.

Mendoza Malbec with a French flair!  Aromas of earthy plums, black cherry, smoke and spice lead to juicy sweet flavors of cherry, pomegranate, blueberry, and spice.  There’s a touch of Cahors structure here with fine balance and length.  Delicious!

"Deep dark cherry colour. A mix on the nose of sweet blueberry and something more like iron, like a freshly cooked but slightly bloody steak. On the palate, lovely soft dark fruit given an edge by fine freshness. There's tension to balance the ripe but not overripe fruit. Generous but nicely held in check to make it a great food wine. Long juicy finish. This is not a simple Malbec but it has Malbec's sweet dark fruit. Finesse and freshness on the finish."  Jancis Robinson Purple Pages 16.5/20

Finca Decero Malbec Remolinos Mendoza 2011 Product #28530 (In Stock)
Finca Decero Malbec Remolinos Mendoza 2011 Finca Decero Malbec Remolinos Mendoza 2011

An outstanding value for such a well-made single-vineyard Malbec.  This delivers the luxurious texture often found in Paul Hobbs' wines (he trained Decero's winemaker) but with more savory, meaty, notes to go with the blackberry and cherry fruit and dusting of bitter chocolate.  Complex and really attractive, especially with something roasted or grilled.

"The 2011 Remolinos Vineyard Decero Malbec is young and fruity, with harmony, good acidity, great balance and purity. Clean, long, and well-proportioned with perfectly ripe fruit, it is a delicious wine at a great price."Wine Advocate 90 points

Always a delicious value, the 2013 Catena Chardonnay may just be the best ever - and that's saying something for a wine that scores 90-93 points pretty much every year.  A blend of oaked and tank-aged wine, it crackles with fantastic fresh apple, pear, peach and pineapple fruit framed by notes of crushed mint and toasted hazlenut.  The vivid fruit pumps on through the juicy finish where Burgundy-like minerality and creamy toast notes linger.  Fantastic stuff.

Bodegas Monteviejo Lindaflor Petite Fleur 2010 Bodegas Monteviejo Lindaflor Petite Fleur 2010

A serious, dark, Malbec blend with notes of chocolate and superb concentration.  Needs air and big meant now.  This is great value.

"The 2010 Petite Fleur is a blend of 50% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah and 10% Merlot cropped at nine tons per acre. It has a ripe bouquet of creme de cassis, marmalade and blood orange that could be overbearing, but it is undeniably nicely controlled. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip on the entry. It has superb weight of fruit, while the finish is powerful yet elegant, with Asian spices, dark cherry and dried orange peel lingering on the aftertaste. Drink 2013-2018."Wine Advocate 90 points

Angulo Innocenti Malbec La Consulta 2012 Product #28301 (In Stock)
Angulo Innocenti Malbec La Consulta 2012 Angulo Innocenti Malbec La Consulta 2012

A big Malbec that stays poised and focused, with half the wine raised in tank for freshness.

"The opaque purple-colored 2012 Malbec is a big (14.5% natural alcohol), 1,800-case cuvee that spent time in both neutral tanks (50%) and oak (50%). It reveals some spicy oak notes along with a big, sweet kiss of blackberry and black raspberry fruit as well as hints of camphor and white flowers. The complex aromatics are followed by a medium to full-bodied, lush, opulent Malbec to enjoy over the next 4-5 years, perhaps longer."Wine Advocate 91 points

Chakana Estate Selection Red 2013 Product #28969 (In Stock)

This remarkable blend of 60% Malbec and equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah has racked up 94 and 95 point ratings from Robert Parker in The Wine Advocate the past two years.  The 2013 will end up at least that high with the rating appears in December. I love how there’s nothing thick or heavy here – hard to believe the 14.5% abv! – and how silky it is from first sip through the long finish over silky tannins.  Mouthwatering and well integrated, this is a very impressive wine for steak or even more sophisticated dishes.

Robert Parker’s 95 point review for the 2012 is equally applicable to this not yet reviewed 2013:  “60% Malbec, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Shiraz aged 10 months in 100% new French oak. This killer red comes from Chakana-s two well-placed vineyards in southern Mendoza, Agrelo and Alta Mira. Aromas of flowers, blackberries, camphor, forest floor and subtle new oak emerge from this full-bodied, textured, opulent blockbuster. Extremely pure and rich, this bargain-priced Malbec should drink well for 6-10+ years. If this were a Napa Valley or Bordeaux red, it would undoubtedly be priced between $150-200.”  Don’t miss  this one!

We don't often see 100% Petit Verdot, the intensely perfumed and structured red grape Bordeaux winemakers often use to add complexity to their Cab/Merlot blends.  This one's a Mendoza beauty.  Dense, ripe, and supple, it pumps out aromas and flavors of blackberry, black cherry, licorice, violet and dark chocolate.  Plush and rich, treat it like a softer, more complex, Petit Sirah and enjoy with steak or ribs.

Angulo Innocenti Unisono La Consulta 2010 Angulo Innocenti Unisono La Consulta 2010

A "WOW" wine, one that makes an immediate impression with its rich, luscious, chocolate-covered fruit and then keeps pumping out blackberry, mocha and spice notes until the bottle's all gone.  Nothing subtle here - big flavors and textures for big food on the grill.

"The 2010 Unisono is a blend of 67% Malbec, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Cabernet Franc from La Consulta in the Finca Piedras Blancas vineyard in the Uco Valley. Approximately two-thirds is raised in French oak for 13 months. It has an impressive bouquet, rich and generous with scents of dark plum, boysenberry, fresh dates and a smear of dark chocolate. The aromatics are well-defined and open nicely over the course of one hour. The palate is full-bodied with a supple, luscious entry. There are layers of sweet dark plum, mocha and licorice fruit with just a touch of alcoholic burn at the back of the throat. It does have a gloriously seductive, velvety texture and the rounded cashmere finish is a delight. This is a well-crafted, opulent Malbec blend that offers immediate drinking."Wine Advocate 90 points

Purple/black in color with an alluring nose of sandalwood, exotic spices, black cherry, lavender, and black plum, on the palate it displays opulence, considerable power accompanied by finesse. It has enough structure to evolve for several years and will offer a drinking window extending from 2014 to 2027."Wine Advocate 92 points

"Densely packed, but ripe, lush and inviting, with unabashed licorice, plum sauce, melted fig and boysenberry fruit flavors that glide over hints of spice and mocha.
