- Kenwood Chardonnay Yulupa 2011 Product #26594 (In Stock)
-
-
A very tasty California Chardonnay here at a very nice price. Kenwood launched this wine for restaurant by the glass programs, but it's turned out to be a winner at home as well! Aromas and flavors feature ripe stone fruits and grilled pineapple framed by notes of rich caramel and tangy citrus. Full, but not heavy, full of fruit, but not fruity, this is the kind of party Chardonnay California should turn out by the tankfull, but seldom does. Rock solid value.
- Clos Robert Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 Product #25534 (In Stock)
-
-
Bob Stack is best known as an importer of fine value wines from around the world (his Red Dust Shiraz has been a favorite here for years). He named his California negotiant venture Clos Robert to clearly indicate his preference for French-styled Cabs, and that’s what he delivers here. The 2008 Clos Robert Cab is made from a mix of purchased fruit that Bob vinifies and wine he buys from a range of suppliers across California.
The 2008 Clos Robert is terrific blend of California ripeness and Bordeaux style. The aromas and flavors lead with big red currant, blackberry and black cherry fruit that fill your mouth from side to side without ever becoming heavy or clumsy. Notes of dark chocolate, mocha, and sweet spice add complexity and juicy acids and fine tannins keep the wine precise and refreshing. Certainly a great match for a grilled burger, but this will stand up to strip steak and delight on its own as well. - Drops Of Jupiter Petite Sirah 2011 Product #26595 (In Stock)
-
-
The fact that a wine comes from a famous entertainer (in this case, Train's Jimmy Stafford) isn't a particularly strong endorsement. But here the proof is in the pudding, as they say. This is a bold, juicy, and very fruit-forward bottle of Petite Sirah that somehow stays balanced and fresh. Loaded with ripe blackberry and boysenberry fruit and just a touch of plum pudding and spice, this finishes with big, but very soft, tannins. Great burger or sipping wine and very strong value.

-
Here's a good, fruit-filled, Zinfandel that you'll enjoy with burgers, BBQ, or nibbles at a party. All Zin from vineyards around Sonoma County's Healdsburg, it serves up generous flavors of berries, cherries and spice in a middle-weight wine that finishes dry and clean. Plenty of flavor but not heavy and not at all "hot". Easy drinking fun!
- Leese-Fitch Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 Product #27171 (In Stock)
-
-
Deep purple in color, the 2011 Leese Fitch Cabernet Sauvignon blend jumps from the glass with aromas of juicy blackberries, ripe blueberries, dark chocolate, and toasted walnuts. Black currants, ripe blackberries, dark cherry, milk chocolate, espresso, clove, and vanilla oak nuances. The finish is truly lingering with a lot of dark blue fruit notes.
- Egret Chardonnay California 2011 Product #26883 (In Stock)
-
-
Here's a versatile and delicious California Chardonnay built to satisfy a crowd - and you! Ripe, creamy, and fresh, the aromas and flavors feature juicy apple, pineapple, peach, citrus, and salty caramel. Mostly made in stainless steel for brightness and fruit, the 15% aged in oak delivers just a hint of smoke to complement the buttery notes on the back. Lots of lees stirring gives it a creamy, round, mouthfeel and the juicy apple and sweet butter caramel flavors linger nicely on the fresh finish. A fine party or everyday Chardonnay and outstanding value.
- Block Nine Caiden's Vyd Pinot Noir 2011 Product #26981 (In Stock)
-
-
A new Pinot Noir California Pinot specialist is normally nothing much to get excited about, but these guys are really on to something. This 100% Pinot from around California aged in all French oak (but not much new) and delivers honest scents of smoky Pinot fruit and a nice mouthful of vibrant Pinot flavors: cherry, pomegranate, fresh earth, and spice. Nicely ripe at just 13.1% alcohol and with juicy, tangy, acidity, it's refreshing and fun to drink on its own or with salmon, salads, or pizza. Great stuff that you'll want to try.
- Tobias Vineyards Chardonnay North Coast 2010 Product #26899 (In Stock)
-
-
When you're the son and assistant winemaker for Napa legend Ric Forman, you really ought to know a thing or two about making great Chardonnay. And, when you're married to another third-generation grape grower, you really ought to be able to bring in excellent fruit, too. So, the only thing really surprising about the outstanding Tobias Vineyards Chardonnay 2010 from Toby and Dawn Forman is the price - sure tastes like $40 Chardonnay, but carries a very attractive sub-$20 price tag!
Made from fruit grown and purchased from around the North Coast, this gets a touch of oak and about 30% goes through malolactic fermentation for a touch of buttery creaminess. The aromas and flavors feature plenty of ripe apple, pear, pineapple and citrus fruit with a nice dose of spice. The texture is creamy and rich, but the bright acids keep things fresh and pure. A terrific wine, especially at this price! - Josh Cellars Chardonnay North Coast 2011 Product #26683 (In Stock)
-
-
A value line from Napa winery Joseph Carr, the 2011 Josh Cellars Chardonnay delivers plenty of bang for the buck. A blend of tank and barrel fermented fruit, you'll find lush peach, pear, citrus and tropical fruit in a creamy-textured wine supported by just enough citrusy acidity. The wood is nicely balanced here, giving a touch of vanilla and smoke for complexity and depth. Fine to sip, excellent with food.
- X Winery Red X Winemaker's Blend 2010 Product #26849 (In Stock)
-
-
Here’s a great value red for fans of Orin Swift’s “The Prisoner” or any big, fruit-and-spice-packed, red from Australia, California, or Spain -- sort of a “Baby Prisoner.” A new blend this year of Syrah, Petite Sirah, Dolcetto and Malbec, it hits you in the nose with ripe blackberry, black plum, and a hint of licorice. It will smack your palate around with ripe, juicy, black cherry, plum, and blueberry fruit complicated by a lash of mocha, pepper, and licorice. As the wine escapes, it leaves a finish of blackberry cobbler, cinnamon spice and mocha and good ripe tannin. Best partners in crime for Red X are barbequed ribs, burgers, pizza, or most any roasted meat. All this at such a low price just has to be illegal!
- Trim Cabernet Sauvignon California 2010 Product #26898 (In Stock)
-
-
Ray Signorello's estate wines run in the $50 category, but even top winemakers need a nice bottle of Cab for parties or weeknight supper! Ray sources grapes for this from friends and neighbors and makes it in a fruit-filled, easy-drinking, style. Loads of juicy blackcurrant and red berry fruit are accented by a dash of chocolate and hint of licorice aromas and flavors. Round and stylish in the mouth, notes of cranberry and cherry liquor linger nicely in the end over bright acidity and fine tannin. A very fine burger or lamb chop bottle that you can just sip on all night long.
- Field Recordings Fiction Blanc 2011 Product #26548 (In Stock)
-
-
Winemaker Andrew Jones spends most of his time planting and tending vineyards around California, which allows him to get access to small lots of fine fruit from around the state. Field Recordings is the label he uses for these small lot, idiosyncratic, wines. His 2011 Field Recordings white is a blend of Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscat that is ripe, sweetly fruited, and surprisingly food friendly. Loads of peach, orange, melon, lemon peel, and honeysuckle here accented by a big bunch of fresh flowers. Round and rich in the mouth but dry and bright on the crisp finish. Fun stuff, and sure to please anyone who likes Conundrum (but wants to spend a little less!).
- Michael & David Phillips Petite Petite 2010 Product #26346 (In Stock)
-
-
Always one of our favorite "big" wines - as the winery says, "Like elephants whose size is imposing, Petite Petit is large!" This year it's a blend of 85% Petite Sirah and 15% Petit Verdot. The Petite Sirah gives full-bodied fruit and licorice notes while the Petit Verdot ads perfume and a touch of lavender. As the winemaker says, "Offering a joyous explosion of color and fun, it is a substantial, dense, full-bodied, whopper style of wine loaded with pure black fruit and vanilla flavors that coat the palate. It reveals remarkable richness with a finish that is slightly dry and seems to linger."
- Conundrum 2011 Product #26251 (In Stock)
-
-
Mainly Sauvignon Blanc plus Chardonnay, Viognier and Muscat. Generous aromas of green apple, tangerine zest and honeysuckle. In the mouth, expansive and palate-coating with lush, creamy, flavors of melon, apricot, pear, pineapple and a touch of vanilla. The Muscat adds cheerful fruit and floral notes as unusually bright and zingy acidity comes up to keep things fresh.
- Orin Swift Saldo Zinfandel 2010 Product #27044 (In Stock)
-
-
The 2010 Saldo is once again mainly Zinfndel (82%) plus Petite Sirah (10%) and dashes of Syrah and Grenache from top vineyards all across California. Words like “big”, “intense”, “jammy” and – of course – “full throttled” all apply perfectly here in this classic example of California “power Zin.”
Give the 2010 Saldo a swirl and you’ll be greeted by big aromas of dark cherry, crushed blackberry, seared meat, cocoa powder plus dashes of baking spice and crushed black olives. Full and rich from the first sip and explosively flavored with more red and black fruit, a touch of dried plum, cracked black pepper, bitter chocolate and more spice. Mouthfilling and intense in the middle, the fruit flavors keep pumping on the zippy finish where just enough acidity and dusty tannin emerge to keep everything together. Chocolate, berry, and vanilla notes linger nicely.
Perhaps this will age well, although I can’t imagine why you’d want to put off enjoying it now. Fire up the grill and sear up a spice-rubbed ribeye steak or go low-and-slow with well-smoked and sauced ribs. But, enjoy the great prices while you can! - Orin Swift The Prisoner 2011 Product #26499 (In Stock)
-
-
The Prisoner is not for the faint hearted. This is a big – right around 15% alcohol – California red that escapes from the class with an explosion of super-ripe red and black fruit plenty of spicy oak. An exotic flavor profile for an exotic blend of 51% Zinfandel, 19% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Syrah, 12% Petite Sirah, 2% Charbono, and 1% Grenache. Almost “over the top”, but with enough tannin and acidity against the luscious fruit to stay on its feet. Always one of our most popular wines, the 2011 Prisoner is sure to be long gone before the next vintage arrives.
Winemaker Dave Phinney's notes: "The wine has a dense red and black hue that is framed in vibrant crimson. Aromas of Bing cherry, espresso, roasted fig and vanillin oak accents are persistent. The entry is powerful and generous supported with lively acidity while flavors of ripe raspberry, pomegranate and wild berry fruit linger harmoniously. Soft, integrated tannin chains allow the wine to be approachable now and provides for a pleasant finish."

Here's a bold, powerful, red from ultra-boutique producer Helen Keplinger. Very limited.
"Offers a sturdy, muscular mix of dried dark berry, loamy earth, espresso, graphite and cedar. This full-bodied red shows excellent depth, ending with tannins that reveal a touch of leather. Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah. Best from 2013 through 2023. 195 cases made."Wine Spectator 93 points
