Val De Salis Malbec Pays d'Oc 2014 Product #30222 (In Stock)
Val De Salis Malbec Pays d'Oc 2014 Val De Salis Malbec Pays d'Oc 2014

Malbec surged to international fame on the strength of the darkly fruited, ripe, and lush examples grown in Argentina’s Mendoza vineyards.  But, before that, it was the basis of one of the most famous wines of late medieval Europe, the intense, earthy, bitingly tannic “black wines” of Cahors in the Southwest of France. The 2012 Val De Salis Malbec from vineyards near the French walled city of  Carcassonne sort of splits the difference in these two styles to deliver a big mouthful of juicy, complex, fruity fun.

You’ll find plenty of New World fruit here, with generous dollops of red plum, raspberry and tangy pie cherry in the aromas and on the palate.  And, you’ll also notice the Old World notes of fresh leather, licorice root, and the notes of lavender, thyme, and black olive the French call garrigue.  On the finish, the New/Old World influence merge to deliver lingering red fruit, licorice, and lavender flavors, bright acidity, and just the right dose of dusty tannin.  What you won’t find is any oak to get in the way of the pure, clean, and refreshing flavors.  Structured enough to sing with burgers, pizza, grilled chicken or most any everyday food, but soft and generous enough to just sip at a party.  And, a steal at this price!

Dolin Vermouth De Chambery Rouge 375ml Product #27792 (In Stock)
Dolin Vermouth De Chambery Rouge 375ml Dolin Vermouth De Chambery Rouge 375ml

Dolin Vermouth's are pretty much the same today as they were when first introduced in 1821.  Made from white wines and fresh and dried herbs and botanicals from Chambery, they are all complex, fresh, and just as delicious on their own as they are in a complex cocktail.

The red vermouth is frankly sweet but with plenty of bright acidity and bitter herb at the end to keep things fresh.  A touch of cherry/berry fruit and plenty of caramel, bitter herb, and exotic spices hold sway here with citrus peel and herb flavors lingering nicely.

Carod Clairette De Die Tradition NV Product #29052 (In Stock)
Carod Clairette De Die Tradition NV Carod Clairette De Die Tradition NV

A very old-school sparkler, made by bottling the young wine while it's still fermenting.  It's a blend of 75% Muscat and 25% Clairette that fizzes with fine, pinpoint, bubbles and shows off aromas and flavors of peach, orange, white grapefruit, and fresh flowers.  Low in alcohol, lightly off-dry and crisp and clean at the end, it's perfect choice for brunch - sort of like a Mimosa with a touch of grapefruit juice!

Ch De Vaux Moselle Blanc Les Gryphees 2015 Product #31551 (In Stock)
Ch De Vaux Moselle Blanc Les Gryphees 2015 Ch De Vaux Moselle Blanc Les Gryphees 2015

A fresh, interesting Alsace blend of Auxerrois, Muller-Thurgau, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer, this opens with scents of spiced pears, fresh golden delicious apples, and soft herbs. On the palate it's a good deal more tart, with granny smith apple flavors and a tang of lemon through the mid-palate. Aromatic and interesting without being cloying, this would be great with all kids of seafood.

Ch De Vaux Les Hautes-Bassieres Pinot Noir Moselle 2014 Product #31064 (In Stock)
Ch De Vaux Les Hautes-Bassieres Pinot Noir Moselle 2014 Ch De Vaux Les Hautes-Bassieres Pinot Noir Moselle 2014

Moselle, along the Mosel River before it flows into Germany, was once a rival to Champagne.  The Franco-Prussian war, phylloxera, and WWI and II took a heavy toll, and today this region along the border with Luxembourg is pretty obscure. But, Norbert and Marie-Geneviève Molozay recognized the region's potential (especially in an era of warming climate), and launched Ch de Vaux in 1996 to prove it.

Pour a glass of this and you’ll immediately notice a good deal more color than you’d expect from such a cool climate.  The nose delivers on the promise of richness and depth with complex aromas of raspberry, dark cherry, wood smoke, and forest underbrush flowing out of the glass.  On the palate, it does just what a great Thanksgiving (or Christmas!) red should.  There’s more than enough ripe fruit to survive the onslaught of Thanksgiving dinner flavors with smoky/savory accents that will highlight stuffing and autumn vegetable sides.  The tang of fresh cranberry on the finish evokes the dish of Aunt Martha’s sauce and, more importantly, refreshes your palate and gets you ready for the next forkful.  Delicious, if obscure, and excellent value!
