Lopez De Haro Rioja Crianza 2010 Product #29747 (In Stock)
Lopez De Haro Rioja Crianza 2010 Lopez De Haro Rioja Crianza 2010

There's no one named "Lopez" involved with this project and the winery isn't located in the town of Haro.  But the quality from this relatively new project has bee nothing short of astounding through its first set of releases.  The 2008 Rioja Crianza (all Tempranillo) was very nice, but this 2010 takes a clear step up in complexity and satisfaction.

"The 2010 Hacienda Lopez de Haro Crianza feels quite classical in its style, lightly-colored, with clean red spicy fruit, a touch of leather and a polished, soft palate that makes it very pleasant and easy to drink. At this price level this wine is a steal! Drink 2014-2018."Wine Advocate 91 points

"A sensational value from Spain, this 100% Tempranillo from Rioja Alavesa has a deep ruby color and a fragrant nose of new saddle leather, unsmoked cigar tobacco, and red and black cherries, followed by a seductive, lovely mouthfeel with no hard edges. Ijalba Rioja Viura Genoli Blanco 2014 Product #30627 (In Stock)
Ijalba Rioja Viura Genoli Blanco 2014 Ijalba Rioja Viura Genoli Blanco 2014

A great example of how refreshing and fun white Rioja can be when it's not too ripe or over-oaked.  Here 100% Viura sees no oak at all, and that lets the crisp, ripe, pear, apple, and stone fruit flavors shine through. The fruit pumps on through the generous finish where a touch of dusty stone adds interest. Try it with seafood, salads, or just warm afternoons!

Orlegi De Luberri Rioja 2015 Orlegi De Luberri Rioja 2015

A very fun, no-oak, Rioja Tempranillo with just a splash of Viura that's almost too much fun to drink. Big aromas of plum and black cherry fruit with hints of white pepper and spice.  Fresh and fruit-filled on the palate with flavors of plum, cherry, blackberry, chocolate and more.  Finishes clean, spicy, and fresh with juicy fruit and floral notes lingering.  A gulper.

Burgo Viejo Rioja Reserva 2008 Product #30469 (In Stock)
Burgo Viejo Rioja Reserva 2008 Burgo Viejo Rioja Reserva 2008

Plenty of classic Rioja aromas, flavors, and complexity here in a 2008 that's maturing nicely, but has plenty of runway in front of it.  Superb value.

"Dried cherry, dark chocolate, minerals and smoky oak on the nose. Supple, oaky and pliant, offering bitter cherry and redcurrant flavors complicated by notes of coconut and chewing tobacco. Dusty tannins give shape to the persistent finish, which repeats the cherry and smoke notes."  Vinous (Reynolds) 90 points

"The outstanding 2008 Reserva (85% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha and 5% Carignan) exhibits plenty of spicy vanillin, forest floor, sweet, jammy black currant and black cherry fruit, and hints of cedarwood and Christmas fruitcake. Its complex aromatics are followed by a full-bodied, opulent, well-made Rioja that should drink well for 3-5 years."Wine Advocate 90 points

So reliable, with fine richness and chocolte and spice accents.

"The 2008 Reserva shows good concentration and fresh aromas of an Atlantic vintage, with quite a traditional profile displaying notes of red fruit, spices, leather and dill, and a medium-bodied palate with intense and clean flavors and a supple finish. This great Reserva wears an attractive price tag. Drink 2014-2018."Wine Advocate 91 points

Bodegas Luis Canas Rioja Reserva Familia 2009 Product #30613 (In Stock)
Bodegas Luis Canas Rioja Reserva Familia 2009 Bodegas Luis Canas Rioja Reserva Familia 2009

A compelling blend of 85% Tempranillo and 15% Graciano and Garnacha, all from 45 year old vines in Rioja Alta.  Aged 20 months in new French and American oak casks, this is a lovely blend in Rioja tradition and modern style.

"Ripe dark berries, vanilla and candied flowers on the pungent nose, with a minerally quality adding lift. Spicy and expansive on the palate, offering intense cherry and raspberry liqueur flavors and a hint of mocha. Becomes deeper and more broad with air and finishes with velvety tannins and a repeating floral pastille note that lingers with strong tenacity."  Vinous (Reynolds) 92 points

"Smoky, toasty oak aromas are dominant on a black-fruit bouquet that also shows graphite. This is saturated and tight, with complexity and outright deliciousness of savory, meaty, spicy blackberry flavors. Toast, cured beef and cocoa flavors prove that there's more to this than just heft and oak."Wine Enthusiast 93 points

"Firm and focused, this solid red delivers black cherry, tobacco and cola flavors over firm tannins, with balsamic acidity and a spicy finish. Not a showy wine, but fresh and harmonious. Drink now through 2022. 8,500 cases made."Wine Spectator 92 points

Bodegas Vinsacro Rioja Vinsacro 2011 Product #30279 (In Stock)
Bodegas Vinsacro Rioja Vinsacro 2011 Bodegas Vinsacro Rioja Vinsacro 2011

A field blend of 70yr old Tempranillo (55%) plus 20% Garnacha, 10% Mazuelo, 10% Graciano and 5% Monastrell that the winery refers to as "Vidau."  There's a great marriage of the traditional - bright acidity, mellow American oak influence - and the modern - rich texture, loads of fruit - here that will satisfy pretty much any Rioja lover.

"Heady, oak-spiced aromas of black and blue fruits, cigar box and cola, with a sexy floral nuance emerging with aeration. Seductively sweet and expansive, offering intense blueberry, cassis and vanilla bean flavors that deliver liqueur-like intensity and depth. Seamless in texture, with slow-building tannins adding shape to the clinging, smoky finish. In a distinctly modern style and awfully easy to drink now."  Vinous (Reynolds) 92 points

Vina Tondonia Rioja Reserva 2003 Product #30559 (In Stock)
Vina Tondonia Rioja Reserva 2003 Vina Tondonia Rioja Reserva 2003

An old-school Rioja classic for lamb or rich stews.

"Bright ruby-red. Ripe cherry, vanilla and floral pastilles on the smoky, oak-spiced nose. Sweet and supple on the palate, offering pliant red fruit and spicecake flavors with suave mocha and vanilla bean nuances. Quite lively and fresh for a wine from a hot vintage, and showing no excess fat. Finishes sweet, toasty and very long, with smooth tannins making a late appearance."  Vinous (Reynolds) 92 points

"From one of the warmest summers in recent history, the 2003 Viña Tondonia Reserva might not show that much heat as María José López de Heredia, this is a Viña Tondonia 6º año, a wine matured for six years and always a blend of grape varieties and vintages. It is legally possible to have up to 15% of wine from a different vintage as the one shown on the label. She says their wines do not vary that much from vintage to vintage because of this. The house blend is around 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacho (notice the masculine use of Garnacha), 5% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo fermented in old (up to 140 years old) oak vats with natural yeasts ("we have never added any yeasts" was her answer). The wine has a canonical 12.5% alcohol and 6.5 grams of acidity. It matured in (used) barrels for six years and was bottled unfiltered. Even if they want to avoid the imprint from the vintage, it's impossible to erase the effect of the torrid 2003. The wine is less Tondonia than the 2004, and the fruit is more obvious and forward. The palate is fuller than your average vintage, juicy and ripe. An approachable Tondonia Reserva to drink on the younger side."Wine Advocate 90 points

Bodegas Luis Canas Rioja Gran Reserva 2007 Product #28588 (In Stock)
Bodegas Luis Canas Rioja Gran Reserva 2007 Bodegas Luis Canas Rioja Gran Reserva 2007

A very “Gran” Gran Reserva indeed, this is proof that Rioja’s traditional long oak aging of its top reds doesn’t need to deliver thin, wan, overoaked wines that you kind of wish had been bottled years earlier. As Wine Advocate said in reviewing the 95 point 2004 edition, “It has an irresistible bouquet that is so pure and sensual you do not know whether to drink it or stroke it.”  Aromas of raspberry, redcurrant, and black cherry take center stage with just the right accent of spice, chocolate and tobacco.  The palate is wonderfully pure and focused with more red fruit, licorice, chocolate and spice flavors that coat your palate.  The fruit turns fresh and bright – tangy raspberry, pomegranate and cranberry – on the finish where fine-grained, mellow, tannins provide support.  Focused, firm, and long, this is already delicious and will sing with anything from rich grilled fish to steak or lamb now and will grow in cellar for another 10+ years.  Fantastic stuff.

"(95% tempranillo and 5% graciano; from vines that are reportedly all over 50 years old): Deep ruby. Heady aromas of mulberry, raspberry, vanilla and exotic spices, with a peppery nuance adding lift. Supple, sweet and focused, offering sappy red and dark berry flavors and suggestions of licorice and mocha. Closes sweet and long, with no obvious tannins and an echo of dark berries."International Wine Cellar 92 points
