Martin Ray Chardonnay Russian River 2013 Product #28497 (In Stock)
Martin Ray Chardonnay Russian River 2013 Martin Ray Chardonnay Russian River 2013

An excellent Russian River Chardonnay at a very attractive price. The aromas and flavors feature creamy pineapple, crisp pear, and fresh apple with a light touch of buttered popcorn and vanilla from oak aging.  Fine balance here in a fairly elegant California Chardonnay with a creamy, soft, mid-palate texture. Pineapple, passion fruit, buttered toast, and green apple flavors linger nicely on the bright, clean, finish. Rock-solid.

Rued Chardonnay Russian River 2013 Product #28933 (In Stock)
Rued Chardonnay Russian River 2013 Rued Chardonnay Russian River 2013

When Henry Rued left his family's vineyards in Switzerland and arrived in Napa Valley to work for Beringer Brothers in 1876, he probably never imagined that his descendents would still be growing grapes and making wine in California 138 years later.  Today, the husband and wife team of Steve and Sonia Rued sell most of the grapes from their vineyards in Dry Creek, Alexander Valley, and the Russian River Valley - but keep the very best for their 3,500 case per year family winery.

We've enjoyed multiple vintages of Rued Chardonnay in the past, but the 2013 is clearly the best yet. The ripe, luscious, Russian River fruit takes center stage with generous aromas and flavors of Golden Delicious apple, melon, ripe pear and sweet citrus.  A deft touch with oak (just 10% new) gives nice hints of vanilla and spice along with a fun buttered popcorn note.  The wine starts crisp and focused, spreads out to coat you mouth with rich, ripe fruit, and then snaps back into focus with a bright finish of apple, Meyer lemon, and spice.  Just what a Russian River Chardonnay should be and a great choice for sipping, parties, or a wide range of foods - and, at this price, an outstanding value.

Bearboat Pinot Noir Russian River 2010 Product #28299 (In Stock)
Bearboat Pinot Noir Russian River 2010 Bearboat Pinot Noir Russian River 2010

We don't know much about Bearboat, but they sure do make a nice Russian River Pinot Noir!  Made from fruit purchased from various vineyards around the Valley, vinified carefully and then given 10 months in small French oak.  The wine shows pretty scents of black cherry with a bit of cassis and toast.  In the mouth plenty of stawberry, raspberry and classic Russian River candied cherry fruit are complemented by some nice hints of fresh earth and smoke.  The wine is nicely balanced - rich, but good freshness - and shows a pretty note of licorice on the finish.  Nice wine, nice value.

Joseph Swan Pinot Noir Rrv Cuvee De Trois 2011 Product #28623 (In Stock)
Joseph Swan Pinot Noir Rrv Cuvee De Trois 2011 Joseph Swan Pinot Noir Rrv Cuvee De Trois 2011

Joe Swan made his first wine in Sonoma’s Russian River Valley in 1968, and his ground breaking work with Zinfandel and Pinot Noir helped make the region’s name.  Joe died in 1989, but his son-in-law Rod Berglund keeps both the legacy and style very much intact.  This is their early-drinking barrel selection, a beauty that’s lacy and pure with high-toned red berry fruit, spice, earth, and a long, mouthwatering, perfumed, finish.

Small Vines Russian River Pinot Noir 2011 Product #27591 (In Stock)
Small Vines Russian River Pinot Noir 2011 Small Vines Russian River Pinot Noir 2011

Even in lighter vintages, this wine shines.  Paul Slaon planted and farms these vineyards using dense plantings and low training, believing that "the smaller the vine, the better the wine."  Hard to argue when you taste this!

"(75% Baranoff fruit and the rest from the Sloan's estate, on the west side of Sebastopol; 25% new oak): Bright ruby-red. Suave, incisive strawberry, dried cherry and floral scents are brightened by brisk minerality. Lithe but potent red berry flavors are crisp and impressively focused, with a late note of cherry skin adding bitter grip. There's an appealing sweetness to the finish, which features fine-grained tannins and a touch of candied rose."International Wine Cellar 91 points

Iron Horse Wedding Cuvee Blanc De Noirs 2010 Product #28615 (In Stock)
Iron Horse Wedding Cuvee Blanc De Noirs 2010 Iron Horse Wedding Cuvee Blanc De Noirs 2010

One of the most beautiful wines in the store in the glass - pale salmon pink with fine bubbles.  Very, very, tasty too!  Made from mostly Pinot Noir, this vintage is a bit more dry and sprightly than past vintages.  Aromas of brioche, raspberries, and pears invite you to enjoy the savory, food-friendly flavors.  A great sparkler for a toast, but could be enjoyed with a wide variety of foods as well.

Small Vines Russian River Pinot Noir Estate Cuvee 2012 Product #28220 (In Stock)
Small Vines Russian River Pinot Noir Estate Cuvee 2012 Small Vines Russian River Pinot Noir Estate Cuvee 2012

Paul thinks that this could be his best Pinot Noir yet, and it’s the first time that he’s used fruit from all of his estate vineyards in a single bottling.  As in 2011, Baranoff provides more than half the fruit, but 25% comes from super low vigor Old Mill site in Green Valley.  About 12% comes from the MK Vineyard on the Sonoma Coast and the rest from the Barlow Homestead vineyard, where Paul and Kathryn live.  Paul farms all of these sites organically now, with no chemical fertilizers or herbicides – but lots and lots of handwork.  The best barrels from each vineyard were selected for this 383 case cuvee.

Not yet reviewed by the press, I’m inclined to agree that this is Paul’s best Russian River Pinot Noir ever.  A little swirling reveals layered aromas of black and Bing cherry, licorice root, red flowers, and fresh turned earth.  On the palate, the wine has much more richness and concentration than the 13.6% alcohol suggests, with pure and intense flavors of sweet cherry, Asian 5 spice, cola nut, and a touch of blackberry and vanilla.  The tannins are very elegant and fine grained, but provide ample support for food or cellaring, and the sour cherry, spice, and earth flavors linger on and on.  Lovely, luscious, stuff.

Paul Hobbs Chardonnay Russian River 2012 Product #28303 (In Stock)
Paul Hobbs Chardonnay Russian River 2012 Paul Hobbs Chardonnay Russian River 2012

One of the best Chardonnay's yet from global traveler Paul Hobbs.  A Russian River classic.

"Ripe melon, orange and smoky lees aromas are lifted and sharpened by a zesty mineral quality that becomes stronger with air. Fleshy and nicely concentrated yet lively, offering juicy pear and citrus fruit flavors and a sexy floral accent. The mineral note repeats on the finish, which clings with very good clarity and tenacity."International Wine Cellar 90 points

"The 2012 Chardonnay Russian River (3,900 cases produced) will be a big-time winner. It exhibits copious aromas of tropical fruit and buttery citrus, medium to full body and a flamboyant personality. It should drink nicely for 3-4 years."Wine Advocate 90-93 points

Soliste Chardonnay l'Age d'Or 2010 Product #27079 (In Stock)
Soliste Chardonnay l'Age d'Or 2010 Soliste Chardonnay l'Age d'Or 2010

You've heard California winemakers talk about "Burgundian" Chardonnay, but this is the first we've seen to really deliver the goods.  Russian River Chard picked with fine acids and fermented and aged 16 months in thick-staved Taransaud 500ml casks. Elegant aromas of warm apples and pear with chalky, Chassagne-like, notes of mineral, smoke and butter.  Silky textured and spicy on the palate with more apple, lemon curd, and quince fruit and accents of grapefruit, salty caramel, and black tea.  The chalk and briny elements come up on the long, complex, finish to mingle with notes of lime, fruit pits, and bitter almond.  Lovely stuff.
